Jet anxiety: If you want to stay behind the scenes of your life

Kevin Hart I once heard say that his life is a movie and he decides how that movie goes and doesn't let anyone ruin it. Given his popularity with comedy films, it's safe to say that he shines both literally and figuratively on the stage of life.

But what if you have jet anxiety? What if you prefer to stay hidden on the stage of your life? While you actually want to seize those opportunities? In this blog you are going to read more about ray fear and what you can do about it.

What is jet anxiety?

Stage fright can refer to the anxiety you feel when, as a musician, you have to step onto a stage , but it’s more than just stage fright. There are moments in your life when you’re briefly in the spotlight, such as when you’re getting married, while giving a presentation, when you’re winning at a particular sport, or when you’re starting a business and need to share your ideas with the world to make it a success.

Moments like these, you can have anxiety about them, and we refer to them as ray-tracing anxiety.

So you can suffer from anxiety both as an artist and on a personal level for moments when you need to shine.

Recognizing Jet Fear

Perhaps you've read the above and are already thinking "yes that's me," but sometimes jet anxiety can be a little more subtle.

People who suffer from jet anxiety may experience the following problems:

  1. Nervousness and anxiety about a social situation
  2. Trembling or sweating due to this fear
  3. Increased heart rate due to this anxiety
  4. Conversations when talking in public (or with people not in your circle of friends)
  5. Avoiding situations where you should be beaming

Fear of the spotlight can also be closely linked to fear of failure, fear of success, and imposter syndrome—but in this case, it’s focused on more public matters and goals.

Research also shows that fear of success will indeed cause your performance to decline[1].

So ray anxiety is not helpful at all, as it can reduce your chances of success in your life.

So time to do something about it.

Why do you suffer from jet anxiety?

The first step to getting rid of jet anxiety is often by figuring out why you suffer from it.

There are all kinds of reasons why you might not be shining, and they all have to do with beliefs.

For example, stage fright is often also about the fear that other people will judge you. It is a form of social anxiety.

What do you think of yourself as worthy? Do you consider yourself worthy of a spotlight? Even if it's just a little blog that can grow 😉 . Your self-esteem can also get in the way.

And the scammer-syndrome feeling that can come with it is actually about the fear that if you succeed and then things may not go as well again this will be painful for you.

It could also be a fear of failure —the project you want to undertake is so big that you don’t know where to start, so you end up not starting at all.

Finding (and changing) your cause for jet anxiety

For everyone, the underlying belief behind the fear of shining can be just a little different. With hypnosis, you can uncover which beliefs are preventing you from daring to shine.

You’ll start with an initial consultation, after which a hypnotherapist can help by conducting a regression. During a regression, you’ll go back to the very first moment in your life when you felt you shouldn’t let your light shine. That’s the moment when your fear of shining began.

This is often a moment that has then created a limiting belief. Because ray fear is a fairly broad term, these can be all kinds of moments.

Like talking to one of your parents or teachers. Not doing something right while on stage with school or a hobby where you were in the spotlight. Or even a moment while playing with friends.

It will at least be a moment from your childhood, because that is the moment in your life when you subconsciously determine how the world works and how you are "supposed" to function in it.

Next, the therapist helps you repair your beliefs through this moment. This can be done in many ways, such as empathizing with the people who were there at the time.

Other techniques are also available.

But if all goes well, at the end of this exercise you will no longer have that feeling in situations where you can beam that that is something scary to do[2].

Instead, dare to show yourself.

Strategies for dealing with jet anxiety

There are also other ways to deal with jet anxiety. For example, young girls who do gymnastics may suffer from anxiety the moment they have a competition. The moment when they have to beam. This can be the fear of making mistakes and even fear of the coach (an important person at that time).

Strategies to eliminate those fears are:

  1. Social support
  2. Being in the here-and-now with your attention
  3. Positive thoughts
  4. Boosting self-confidence
  5. Visualizing how to do something
  6. Relaxation Techniques[3]

Initially, you can share your plans for which you want to shine with your friends and family. If these are good friends, they will support you and this can strengthen your guts that will get you started.

With mindfulness, you can make it easier to keep your thoughts in the here and now, making it simpler to take the steps necessary to achieve your goals.

In addition, mindfulness also helps you monitor your thoughts. Then as soon as you have a bad thought, you can let it go and instead replace it with a positive thought.

A hypnotherapist can help you have more positive thoughts about the plans you want to shine for.

That help with positive thoughts can then also help with boosting your self-confidence. For this, you can also repeat some affirmations, such as:

"I'm good enough."

"I deserve to live my life the way I want to."

"I am allowed to be there."

"I belong."

These are just examples, depending on the causes of jet anxiety, other suggestions may be given.

Visualize yourself radiating

Visualizing yourself doing something is also a good way to eliminate anxiety. There are several ways a hypnotherapist can help you with this.

For example, if you have goals, it's great fun to actually perform a progression. In that case, you first visualize your ideal future in which you shine. You achieved your goal and showed your art (or whatever project) to the world.

Then, from there, you take a step back each time. You imagine each time what the step you took was for the moment until you are in the chair with the hypnotherapist.

This gives you a clear plan of action so you can achieve your goals, and that can already save a lot of ray-tracing anxiety.

Relax with self-hypnosis

You can also learn relaxation techniques through self-hypnosis to prepare for moments when you need to shine. Imagine you’re about to give a performance or a presentation—you can use these techniques before and during the event to stay calm and keep anxiety at bay.

With a visualization, for example, you can practice how you would feel during the moment you need to beam. Then you learn to use muscle relaxation exercises, for example, so that the anxiety does not get worse and worse due to tension in your body.

You’ll practice this during the hypnosis session, so you can shine again with confidence.

Jet anxiety, then, is a fear particularly about moments when you are in the spotlight and what you are afraid of. You are afraid of starting your own projects or being the center of attention and this can cost you all kinds of great opportunities in your life.

This is why it is so important to overcome jet anxiety, and hypnosis can play a role in this.
