Junk food we know, which is food that is not good for your body. Of course, if you can eat this occasionally, then it is not immediately dramatic. But when you eat junk food structurally, it can of course cause all kinds of negative reactions.
Perhaps not everyone really realizes this. That it's kind of "ignorance is bliss," what does that one little thing matter? But if you keep piling this on, you can suddenly find yourself in a situation where it's all terrible.
This is so with nutrition, but so is it with learning. Junk learning.
Few people engage in superfood learning, the counterpart. Doing the right things and working with good models to learn.
A model I find very interesting.
Much junk learning you have inherited from the past. This is not all junk, of course, but you learn from people who have also been given all kinds of junk in the past. This is how junk beliefs can develop.
For example, things like:
You are not worth it.
You are not good enough.
But things can be much more subtle, such as:
We were born for a dime, then you will never become a quarter.
Rich people are bad.
All politicians lie.
That last statement in particular is not helpful if you aspire to a job in politics yourself. Then you either won't do it or you'll have a lot of problems when you do choose to do it, because those zooi thoughts are in your head anyway.
Now I'm not saying it doesn't happen. Of course there are rich people who are bad and politicians who lie, but you also have garbage collectors who are bad and lie. So that doesn't matter.
If you say that all construction workers lie or all garbage collectors are bad, it doesn't make sense. But with rich people or politicians you suddenly think "yes indeed," you've picked up junk learning somewhere.
By itself, it doesn't matter, but when you are stunted in your growth by these types of beliefs, it is a problem. You may not be bothered by the lying politicians, but if you believe that you are not worthy of being happy or that you cannot be rich, it does hinder you.
Those thoughts or beliefs have also been the result of junk learning.
These hinder your growth in happiness, financial freedom or finding love. It's bullshit if you think you're not worth this. You may have picked this up somewhere in situations you've experienced or from people around you, but it's obviously not true.
Beliefs that you are not worthy of happiness, financial freedom or love are all forms of junk learning.
What happens to your brain?
When you compare the brain of someone playing chess to someone doing gymnastics, they are two very different brains. This also makes sense.
You would say that thinking up the moves in chess is a left-brain task, but people who have been playing chess all their lives sometimes recognize the placement of the pawns on the board as a face and base their next set on that. Recognizing faces is something that happens in the right hemisphere.
So if you play chess all your life, you will see this reflected that way your brain when compared to someone who never plays chess.
Just as you recognize your child, that's how clearly chess players see the possible moves on a chess board.
In gymnasts, motor skills are learned and the brain is also adapted to this. This makes sense, because you have to be able to perform everything effortlessly.
Unfortunately, your brain adapts, too, to shit.
If you keep believing that you are not worth certain things and you keep repeating that in your mind, you get very large connections in your brain, causing those thoughts to take control of you more and more. It literally starts taking up more of your brain until it's a big garbage dump of all kinds of connections that don't make sense.
As a result, you build an identity in a mental garbage dump. There's all this garbage flicked into your head, you couldn't do anything about it, but you then go and build your identity on that .
Of course, this is not - to put it mildly - relaxing.
So what can you do about this?
At least you can do something different. To immediately not do what you were doing is very difficult, but you can do something different.
For example, you can learn to play chess. At first it doesn't go well, but by keeping practicing it gets better and better. If I just keep persevering, at some point it will be reasonable and then good. If I put in a lot of hours, at some point I can become very good.
So repeating the new behavior works, because then you start making new connections, too.
What will you do. There are several things you can do.
80/20 model
First, you can use the 80/20 model. From this principle.
This is one of the finest mental models out there that I enjoy using.
Twenty percent of your time or what you do at work, in your relationship, in your financial management, with people or in your communication creates eighty percent of the results around you.
If this is twenty percent shit, you have eighty percent results as shit.
But what if this is good and you filter this out from the good stuff? Imagine that of those twenty percent good things you do, you do that one hundred percent of your time, or maybe eighty percent.
Then you have 400 percent (4×20=80) results.
If you could spread that twenty percent to one hundred percent.
There again, you have the 80/20 rule.
So then 4% of the time, provides 60% of the results.
In an hour of therapy, you then have five minutes that determine 60% of the session's effect.
So at work, you are often spending 4% of your time doing the things that provide the most results.
This way of thinking can help you begin to look differently at your situation, at what you are doing. This is a way of "superfood learning." Looking at something in a different way, doing something and learning something.
When you teach yourself to look that way, you automatically start thinking differently. Your brain adapts.
Then it's not about whether or not you can do something. You look purely at the results you achieve.
What is the result of my communication? In love or at work? What are you doing right 20% of the time to ensure 80% good results?
So you focus on what's going well, on the positives. After all, you can magnify those.
This is a way of thinking that I find very important and interesting, because it makes you look much more at what you are doing well rather than what you are not doing well.
Hypnosis
The second way to do superfood learning is hypnosis. Then we look at the moment when a certain belief was picked up, such as the belief that you are not worth something.
Somewhere you've picked up on that one. You may have heard someone say that money is bad or that rich people are bad. You may think you don't want to take this at all from those people back then, maybe your parents or a teacher or something.
Then you can nullify this right there. You can't take it in your hypnosis and grow up without that junk in your head.
You create a kind of parallel childhood in your mind and this has an effect in the now.
It's true that the connections that were always there are still there, but you've added an alternative route here that works better[1]. After all, your brain always chooses what gives the most pleasure, is the easiest and takes the least effort.
The route with all the crap in it doesn't give this feeling. The new route does, and then you get dopamine every time because it feels so good. Then your brain will make that route stronger.
The nice thing about your brain is that over time the unused junk connection gets cleared out. Then it just doesn't exist anymore.
So you can use the 80/20 model or you can use hypnosis. Then, of course, you have to be able to apply hypnosis.

So just a bit of shameless promotion.
In fact, you can join a hypnosis playshop in Wormerveer or Zwolle. In the playshop you will learn hypnosis.
You can also come to a seminar, where you will also learn hypnosis and see how hypnosis can work to solve small and big problems.
Or you can simply enroll directly in the training of the Hypnosis Institute Netherlands to help yourself or other people, for example with the above mentioned technique. You can follow the trainings in Wormerveer, Zwolle or online.
