Being satisfied with yourself: Helpful insights and tips

Being satisfied with yourself can be about a number of things, such as being satisfied with how you act, being satisfied with how you look and being satisfied with how you are in life.

If you are currently unhappy with yourself then this blog was written for you. In fact, you will get helpful insights and tips on how to get satisfied with yourself done.

Dissatisfied with yourself

If you’re dissatisfied with how you’re doing—such as wanting to stand up for yourself more, devote more time to your hobbies, or be a better partner, father, mother, or friend—then it’s important to explore why you’re currently finding it difficult to do what you truly want to do deep down.

What is typical, however, is that research shows many mental health issues people experience stem from being unhappy with their bodies. This is especially true for young girls around the ages of 12–23 and for boys around the ages of 15–16[1]. This can lead to low self-esteem and symptoms of depression.

However, another thing to ask yourself if you are not happy with what you are doing and getting done is whether you are not wanting too much? Aren't you too perfectionist, for example?

Tip 1: Assess whether you are a perfectionist

If you’re dissatisfied with what you’re doing, you can start by checking whether you’re too much of a perfectionist or whether your goals are actually reasonable.

Burnout

Something else you can also ask yourself when wondering if you're not wanting too much is whether you're in danger of burnout. For example, if you feel that you cannot achieve your personal goals, such as picking up a hobby, this may be an indication that you are running into burnout[2].

Then you actually haven't taken care of yourself for too long, and that can be a very good explanation for dissatisfaction with yourself.

Tip 2: Consider whether you are working too much

Is it possible for you to schedule me-time? If so, do so for a while. Go do something nice for yourself. Is this not possible? Then chances are you are working too much or doing too much for others.

In that case, it’s important to set and communicate your boundaries.

Tip 3: Use hypnosis against compassion fatigue

Research on healthcare workers—who are at a higher risk of burnout than those in many other professions—shows that hypnotherapy and self-hypnosis can help combat compassion fatigue.

In the process, hypnosis and self-hypnosis can help with setting boundaries, self-care and strengthening inner resources[3].

A clear picture of yourself

Another problem causing you to be dissatisfied with yourself is because, due to unpleasant circumstances in your past life, you don't have a clear picture of who you really are. In that case, you may think you are "attractive" as long as you do how "society" wants you to be[4]. Ideas about how things should be, for example, you take over from the press, social media or other sources because you did not get it right from your family, for example.

This may lead you to want to conform more quickly to other people’s ideas of “success,” rather than what you yourself, deep down , see as success.

Tip 3: Consider what your definition of success is

This is a very tricky one, because chances are you think wealth and a certain appearance, for example, are part of success. After all, that's the image you get from the media about success.

But did you know that there are also those who define success as

"Then I have plenty of time for myself," he said.

"When I have a good relationship with my partner."

"When I find that I am helping people move forward," he says.

"When I go to sleep feeling good."

As you can see, success doesn’t have to be about money or being slim. So take a moment to really think about what you actually want. A hypnotherapist can help with this.

In doing so, self-compassion can also be helpful if you still have an unclear idea of who you really are, but more on that later in this blog.

Happy with your body

Now that we've covered a bit more about things you do or have accomplished and being happy with yourself, we'll also go into the physical aspect of being happy with yourself.

Not being happy with your body is related to a number of personality traits, such as:

  1. Being Neurotic.
  2. Being Extraverted.
  3. Careful are.

These features for people who are unhappy with their bodies apply to both men and women[5].

For women who suffer from bulimia because they are unhappy with their bodies — and who, as a result, experience symptoms of depression and low self-esteem—focusing on reducing pain, or the harm you inflict on yourself, would be a good strategy. This is because these women are often characterized by a desire to avoid pain[6].

Tip 4: Identify what pain you want to avoid with your ideal body image

You might think that having a certain body type means you won’t experience certain kinds of pain, but is that really true? Isn’t there another way to relieve that pain besides being slim, muscular, or extremely fit?

Tip 5: Improve your self-compassion

To be more satisfied with yourself, it is helpful to be less strict with yourself. Applying self-compassion is a good way to be happier with yourself and your body.

Think of yourself as your best friend. Every time you think something negative about yourself, stop and think about what you would say to yourself if you were your own best friend.

Tip 6: Write down what you are grateful to your body for

A gratitude exercise alone can go a long way toward changing your relationship with your body and helping you feel more satisfied with yourself. For example, you could make a list…

I am grateful for my body because:

  1. Helping me grab things all day and get somewhere.
  2. Because it allows me to enjoy movement.
  3. Because I can feel what the sun feels like on my skin.
  4. Because it helps me take care of my family.
  5. Because it helps me get my family 😉 .
  6. Because I can enjoy the smells and tastes of the world.

These are just a few examples. You can be grateful for very different things.

Hypnosis for greater satisfaction with yourself

All of these tips can go a long way toward helping you be more satisfied with yourself. More satisfied with how you look and how you act.

But sometimes it’s easier said than done. In that case, hypnotherapy can help you change your perspective on yourself or do what you’ve always wanted to do.

Shifting Focus

For example, a hypnotherapist can help people shift their focus from the things they don’t like about themselves to the things they do like about themselves.

Everyone has their pluses and minuses. If you are not satisfied with yourself, you probably see mostly your minus points. Paying attention to your pluses will ensure that you can still be more satisfied.

Changing Beliefs

In addition, a hypnotherapist helps people change limiting beliefs —things that hold you back in your behavior, such as choosing your family over your work.

  • Choosing healthy eating, rather than sweets.
  • Choosing to exercise instead of hanging out on the couch.

There are all kinds of techniques for clearing these kinds of obstacles, but usually the first step is still to go back to the moment when an impeding belief was created.

This is often done through regression. Then, you work with that moment to correct those limiting beliefs[7], so they no longer hold you back.

Changing behavior

Changing your beliefs can go a long way toward changing your behavior, but there are also other techniques for changing your behavior. For example, if you’re fed up with certain habits and would like to replace them with others, there are some really great techniques available.

For example, I once helped a woman who no longer wanted to snack on the cookies in her kitchen. Then I performed the SWISH technique with her. In it, the habit of snacking on a cookie was replaced by the habit of just sweeping the kitchen floor.

As a result, she stopped snacking, lost weight and her kitchen floor was super clean.

Be more satisfied with yourself

So being more satisfied with yourself can be done by taking a moment to focus on what you are doing right. If these tips don't help you be happier with yourself in general, hypnosis and self-hypnosis can also do a lot for greater self-satisfaction.
