Being satisfied with yourself can be about a number of things, such as being satisfied with how you act, being satisfied with how you look and being satisfied with how you are in life.
If you are currently unhappy with yourself then this blog was written for you. In fact, you will get helpful insights and tips on how to get satisfied with yourself done.
Dissatisfied with yourself
If you are dissatisfied with how you are doing, such as wanting to stand up for yourself more, pay more attention to hobbies, be a better partner, father, mother or friend. Then it is important to explore why you are finding it difficult now to do what you want to do deep down.
What is typical is that research shows that many mental health problems people experience come from not being happy with their bodies. This is especially true for young girls around 12/23 years old and for boys around 15/16 years old[1]. These can then experience low self-esteem and depressive symptoms because of it.
However, another thing to ask yourself if you are not happy with what you are doing and getting done is whether you are not wanting too much? Aren't you too perfectionist, for example?
Tip 1: Assess whether you are a perfectionist
If you are dissatisfied with what you are doing, you can first check to see if you are too perfectionistic or if you actually have normal goals.
Burnout
Something else you can also ask yourself when considering whether you're trying to do too much is whether you're in danger of burnout. For example, if you feel that you cannot achieve your personal goals, such as picking up a hobby, this may be an indication that you are running into burnout[2].
Then you actually haven't taken care of yourself for too long, and that can be a very good explanation for dissatisfaction with yourself.
Tip 2: Consider whether you are working too much
Is it possible for you to schedule me-time? If so, do so for a while. Go do something nice for yourself. Is this not possible? Then chances are you are working too much or doing too much for others.
In this case, it is important to set and state your limits.
Tip 3: Use hypnosis against compassion fatigue
Research on healthcare workers, who are at higher risk for burnout than many other professions, shows that hypnotherapy and self-hypnosis can help combat compassion fatigue.
In the process, hypnosis and self-hypnosis can help with setting boundaries, self-care and strengthening inner resources[3].
A clear picture of yourself
Another problem causing you to be dissatisfied with yourself is because, due to unpleasant circumstances in your past life, you don't have a clear picture of who you really are. In that case, you may think you are "attractive" as long as you do how "society" wants you to be[4]. Ideas about how things should be, for example, you take over from the press, social media or other sources because you did not get it right from your family, for example.
As a result, you may be more likely to want to conform to "success" images that other people indicate, rather than what you deep down see as success yourself .
Tip 3: Consider what your definition of success is
This is a very tricky one, because chances are you think wealth and a certain appearance, for example, are part of success. After all, that's the image you get from the media about success.
But did you know that there are also those who define success as
"Then I have plenty of time for myself," he said.
"When I have a good relationship with my partner."
"When I find that I am helping people move forward," he says.
"When I go to sleep feeling good."
As you can see, success doesn't have to have anything to do with money or being slim. So think hard about what you do want right now. A hypnotherapist can help with this.
In doing so, self-compassion can also be helpful if you still have an unclear idea of who you really are, but more on that later in this blog.
Happy with your body
Now that we've covered a bit more about things you do or have accomplished and being happy with yourself, we'll also go into the physical aspect of being happy with yourself.
Not being happy with your body is related to a number of personality traits, such as:
- Being Neurotic.
- Being Extraverted.
- Careful are.
These features for people who are unhappy with their bodies apply to both men and women[5].
For women who suffer from bulimia because they are not happy with their bodies, and who have depressive symptoms and low self-esteem as a result, focusing on reducing pain, or that you are doing something to yourself, would be a good strategy. Because these women often have as a characteristic precisely that they want to avoid pain[6].
Tip 4: Identify what pain you want to avoid with your ideal body image
Chances are you don't think you experience certain pain when you have a certain body, but is that really the case? Isn't that pain eliminated in other ways than being slim, muscular or extremely fit.
Tip 5: Improve your self-compassion
To be more satisfied with yourself, it is helpful to be less strict with yourself. Applying self-compassion is a good way to be happier with yourself and your body.
Think of yourself as your best friend. Every time you think something negative about yourself, stop and think about what you would say to yourself if you were your own best friend.
Tip 6: Write down what you are grateful to your body for
A gratitude exercise also does an awful lot to change your connection with your body and to be more satisfied with yourself. For example, you can make the list ...
I am grateful for my body because:
- Helping me grab things all day and get somewhere.
- Because it allows me to enjoy movement.
- Because I can feel what the sun feels like on my skin.
- Because it helps me take care of my family.
- Because it helps me get my family 😉 .
- Because I can enjoy the smells and tastes of the world.
These are just a few examples. You can be grateful for very different things.
Hypnosis for greater satisfaction with yourself
All of these tips can go a long way toward helping you be more satisfied with yourself. More satisfied with how you look and how you act.
But sometimes it's all easier said than done. In that case, hypnotherapy can help you change the way you view yourself, or do what you've always wanted to do.
Shifting Focus
For example, a hypnotherapist can help people shift their focus from things they don't like about themselves to things they do like about themselves.
Everyone has their pluses and minuses. If you are not satisfied with yourself, you probably see mostly your minus points. Paying attention to your pluses will ensure that you can still be more satisfied.
Changing Beliefs
In addition, a hypnotherapist helps people change limiting beliefs . Things that hinder you in your behavior, such as choosing your family over your work.
- Choosing healthy eating, rather than sweets.
- Choosing to exercise instead of hanging out on the couch.
There are all kinds of techniques for clearing these kinds of obstacles, but usually the first step is still to go back to the moment when an impeding belief was created.
This is often done with regression. Something is then done with that moment to fix those limiting beliefs[7] so they no longer hinder you.
Changing behavior
Changing beliefs can already do much to change your behavior, but there are other techniques to change your behavior as well. For example, if you are fed up with certain habits and would like to replace them with other habits, there are also very nice techniques.
For example, I once helped a woman who no longer wanted to snack on the cookies in her kitchen. Then I performed the SWISH technique with her. In it, the habit of snacking on a cookie was replaced by the habit of just sweeping the kitchen floor.
As a result, she stopped snacking, lost weight and her kitchen floor was super clean.
Be more satisfied with yourself
So being more satisfied with yourself can be done by taking a moment to focus on what you are doing right. If these tips don't help you be happier with yourself in general, hypnosis and self-hypnosis can also do a lot for greater self-satisfaction.
