Yes, it's off, the pass. Or is there still a catch....
Yippee the pass is off! Ladies and gentleman, welcome to the "Get Out of Hypnosis" podcast. Yes, the QR pass is off, well almost so. February 25, maybe if you're listening to this it's already off. But it's off. Yes and then I hear you thinking, 'Well, it will come back'. You know, it's in the toolbox and if need be, it'll just pop up again. Yeah well it will, hey because something that is temporary usually never goes away. It's been like that before. Also in 2006-2007 there was a "temporary" law against terrorism, well it has been extended to 2027 so it is still there too. There's also that QR code attached to that so yes already plays one and of course there are more things like that.
And we still have to get the Kok quarter back too, and the price of gasoline is now over 2 euros, a gallon. So yes, the penny doesn't matter anymore, but as you can see: it has been like that for years, in fact my whole life. So then you already know: this will not be temporary. But you have to celebrate where you can ladies and gentleman and well, just make do with what you have. And that's what I want to talk to you about because look what you're doing, that's what you see in the world. When my wife was pregnant with twins, I saw twins everywhere everywhere. Cars, twin cars, twin seats yes I was all over that and I saw twins everywhere really well gigantic. You would think it's a unique thing, until you get into it yourself and then you see them everywhere.
Frequency illusion
Well that's the frequency illusion, the bader-my-court phenomenon, you see what you care about. You also see what you believe, what you believe you see. If you believe that nobody can be trusted, then you only see people who cannot be trusted for example. Hey but so if you believe very important, and are concerned with twins then you see twins everywhere. If you are concerned with shoes, you see shoes everywhere. The other day what I was at my dentist and the first thing he said was, "Hey new shoes? He was doing that because his daughter was doing shoes and she wanted very expensive shoes. So his filter is tuned to shoes and the first thing he sees - in everything you could see - is my shoes. And then he talks about shoes because that's "top of mind" for him. So he sees that in the world.
Well you recognize that too. And now if you start paying attention to yellow cars, suddenly you see yellow cars everywhere where there weren't any before? Yep, of course you do. Just they stand out more. And they appear more in your world. And suddenly it seems like everybody drives a yellow car. Hey, suddenly it seems like everybody is pregnant, for example, if, for example, your wife is pregnant or you're a woman-and you're listening-and you're pregnant yourself. You suddenly see pregnant women everywhere. When we had babies yet, and I say babies because at one point we had 3 children under 2, lots of little children, suddenly you see lots of little children. Of course at some point you also go to a playroom, you see children there again and it's more noticeable. And now, I see almost no little children at all, I see only young people. Because my boys are now in the "youth category. And I also see almost no little kids anymore because yes, my unconscious filter is tuned to young people, and I do see a lot of them. I see a lot of young people.
And my mother, for example, she sees a lot of elderly people. And that's her world, the elderly have it so bad. And I think, 'Yes, the young people have it so bad.' Only you could say 'Both have it bad or both are doing fine'. But anyway, it's your focus point.
And actually, you could see it the same way social media works, or YouTube. Once you click on a video you like, all of a sudden you get suggested videos, I think you know. And before you know it, you only see suggested videos of what you think is cool. Or maybe not even cool, but what you want more info on. So imagine I go to watch a movie about "the earth is flat," so I see a YouTube movie with an explanation of "Yes the earth is not round, it is flat. Then next I do see the videos, more of them. And before you know it, you're in a kind of algorithm, algorithmic trap where I only see things like that. Well that's not bad, until you start believing that that's really all it is.
But then you're back in the same of "There are only yellow cars" or "Everyone has only blue shoes" or "All women are pregnant. Well I can tell you, you can create really nasty situations with that. Because not all women are pregnant, some look pregnant and then if you say they are pregnant, they get angry. And I've experienced that myself in real life. But now we actually have software that actually does the same thing as life itself.
What do you care about?
If you look at your Social media timeline, he example Facebook or Instagram or whatever. You see what you care about. And what you care about that scans that program. So if you linger a little longer on an image, linger a little longer on a post, that program knows, "Okay, here's what he or she wants to see more of," and it's going to see that. And at some point you think that's the truth, but it's your truth, your filter.
I mean so much is published on the Internet, it takes a lifetime to consume all that is published in one day. Because you're not going to manage that, so that program filters that for you. So imagine: you believe in certain conspiracies, you're just going to see that on your timeline. And then at some point you think, 'But wait a minute, why don't you see that on your timeline?' 'Don't you know that?' You also really think that all of Facebook then sees the same thing, but it doesn't. You only see what you want to see and what you think is important.
But in real life it's the same, you only see what you care about and what you believe. Anything you don't believe, you don't see. And that just doesn't come through either. Of the 11.2 million bits of information that you receive per second - according to Ap Dijksterhuis in his book 'The Clever Unconscious' - of which 5 bit is 1 letter, you process 2 thick books of information per second. You consciously process 60 bits of that, so 12 letters from 2 thick books, so what happens: you leave out most of it. The rest you distort, to what you think is important and what you believe and generalize. 'Oh, they're all like that'. That is most energy efficient for your brain.
Attention QR Pass
So long story short, that QR card, if you make it important, you'll see it everywhere. And then I say, "Yeah but it's everywhere too, isn't it? No, it's not everywhere. It's like blue cars, there are a lot of blue cars. There are a lot of gray cars, hey maybe the majority of all cars is a certain color maybe black. I don't know that right now, but imagine the majority are black cars. Are there already other colors of cars? Yes but much less, for example red cars are less for example or white for example less. But they are there. Only if you only pay attention to black cars then you only see black cars. Even if you say, "Yes but I don't want to see black cars!" even then you make it important. Maybe even more important.
Because what you don't want makes you 2.5 times more important than what you do want. So loss aversion too, that's where it comes from, we do 2.5 times more to avoid pain, to stop loss. We prefer not to lose, and we put 2.5 times more effort into that than to obtain something. So imagine "I want that QR pass," I see that QR pass but well I want it. But imagine you don't want that QR pass, so you see it 2.5 times more in your world while you don't want it! But well that's how your brain works, it doesn't want this so it's going to show all kinds of things to you that you don't want.
So that's so fascinating, so what do you get in your really: even more frustration, even more anger. Because you don't want to see that one at all, and what happens: you see it 2.5 times as someone else. Until you think, "Yes, he's just not there in my world. At least it's there, but I don't make it matter. And just like twins don't matter to me now, are there suddenly no more twins in the world? Of course there are, but I don't see them. I don't see them. Pregnant women, yes they are not important to me anymore. At first I was very concerned with that when my wife was pregnant but that was a long time ago. I was very concerned with that, I saw them everywhere with all the consequences.
But now they are not there? Yes, of course they are but I don't see them. But when I engage in it, I see them. If I don't want them around me then I see them 2.5 times more. Think about that. So if it's not important to you, totally unimportant, and you don't pay attention to it anymore. You think, "Whatever, I don't care anymore. Is it just not there in your world, in your world hey. Because it is there in the world, just like pregnant women, just like yellow fiat pandas just like blue cars, red shoes. Everything is in the world, everything. But what you want to see is only because you make that important and because you believe that. And if you don't want it, you make it 2.5 times more important. So yes, again, the summary: if you don't want to see something in your life, don't make it so important. Later.
