Work not fun: When 70% of your life sucks

When 70% of your life is f*cked up, what do you do? It's fascinating to me that many people live for the weekend.

Don't get me wrong because I know the feeling too - but Monday is seen as shit, and Friday as yeah party! And those living for the weekend. Well then 70% of your life is just shit. To put it technically. If you think your job is shit, and you're at work 40 hours a week and you still have to drive there, you still have to drive back, you take that feeling home with you. You sit on the couch and go Netflix. And you do work you don't like then you just sew up your life! You can't do that, can you?

That way, if you're doing work you don't like, you're just screwing up your life. You just can't do that, can you?

Now you may be thinking, "Yes, but I have to pay all kinds of bills and the mortgage." Then sell that house, make a different decision.

Go figure. Do you want to look back later when you are old and think "F*ck, man, I just wasted 20 years of my life? Of the ONLY life you have? It's not a dress rehearsal, right, ladies and gentlemen. No, you only have now! It's now or never and it's as simple as that. A beautiful Chinese proverb I think of then is : the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, and the second best time is NOW. So NOW you take action.

Then you say, "Yes,but I can't just quit my job, can I?" - No, not just like that, but you can start something beside it that inspires, motivates and stimulates you if you have a shit job. But if you have a good job, well great! Because then most of your life is LONG! I love my job. If I didn't I would have done something else. I really do.

It's that simple.

Yes, yes, yes you should have done it earlier.

Then I always think of a Chinese proverb:

"The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the second best time is now."

Now get in on the action!

You may not be able to quit your job right away, but you can do something alongside it that inspires you what you enjoy doing that energizes you. What motivates you.

If you have a great job, TOP! Because then most of your life is fun.

I myself have never, except for a few days, worked against my will. "But Ed, you also worked in construction for 10 years, right?" - Yes exactly, because I really liked that! Until I didn't like it anymore and then I quit and went to do something else. Was that easy? No, because I had 3 young children when I quit. But I do NOT go to work reluctantly. Because I only have ONE life.

Maybe I'm a little recalcitrant in this, but there's only 1 life and when it's over and it's over I get somewhere and it's "Ed, how was it?"

"Yes, I did have a k*t job."

You may not be able to quit completely right away, I understand that too. But think about it.

There are so many opportunities. On the Internet to pursue something in addition to this . To get a new source of income.

Because that's often the biggest reason why people don't quit, don't quit the work they don't like. Or because of money.

So go think of something else you can make money from. Anything at all! Until you make enough money from it that you can work less or even quit the work you don't like doing altogether.

That may take years, and that's fine, but then you're building something instead of tearing it down.

If you have a terrible job, you need to change something right now, right now, right now. Even if it's just something small.

And if you have a Top Job! Welcome to the club of happy people.

Consequences of not liking your job

Reading this blog, you can probably already imagine what happens to you when you don't like your job. Research conducted in Maastricht has shown that when you like your work, because it develops you, for example, this causes you to become less fatigued by your work and also have more fun at work[1].

So not liking your work can cause you to lack energy. Maybe that's why it's so hard to get up on time on weekdays while you manage to do so on weekends (when you go out and do fun things).

In addition, it turns out that work you don't enjoy doing can cause a lot of stress and even depression. On the contrary, when you find your work enjoyable, or at least meaningful, it makes you less likely to experience depression and stress[2].

Prolonged stress can trigger depression, as far as your mental health. In fact, prolonged stress can also cause cardiovascular disease. It raises your blood pressure, your inflammatory levels and arteriosclerosis lurks.

So the consequences of not liking your job are quite significant.

Consequences of a workplace that causes embarrassment

If you even have a workplace that requires you to do things that make you feel ashamed or weak, the consequences are even greater. This can be the case with workplace bullying, for example.

Consider whether you are only selling your time, or even your soul. Because then you are not only tired or depressed but also becoming bitter about your life. As a result, you take that bitterness home with you and you are more likely to argue with your partner, children or even your pet[3].

If you are in a workplace that is just really not fun, then it's time to get ready to find another job or source of income.

After all, you need to stand up for yourself then, and there's a chance that that won't be accepted in a job that makes you do things that make you feel weaker. Then it is important that you can walk away or at least walk away as quickly as possible.

Because before you know it, not 70% of your life is not fun, but you've ruined your social relationships as well, and then we'll be a lot closer to the 100% of your life that is not fun.

And the great thing is that when you stand up for yourself because your boss or colleagues are not treating you well it can be contagious.

For example, I know someone who had a side job in a restaurant during her studies. The manager went on quite a rant against her about what wasn't right. It felt pretty belittling.

This was incredibly stressful and eventually she herself resigned immediately, saying that she did not want to be treated this way. Fortunately, she was still living at home so she was able to do this. She knew she had an alternative and that is why it is so important to have an alternative.

A week later, it was revealed that the rest of the staff had also resigned.

So maybe you're not even the only one who doesn't like your job, but somehow a toxic culture has developed in the workplace.

When your job isn't fun anymore

Maybe your work has always been fun. Nice colleagues, nice people and challenging work. But now you feel that the challenge is gone. Even then, you can choose to find something you enjoy, which motivates you and helps you get another income.

This is to avoid the examples and consequences mentioned above.

Changing thoughts about work and making money

Perhaps you now have all kinds of thoughts about how not possible it is to change your life. Those thoughts are based on your beliefs, and it's important to overcome blocking beliefs so you can make the change.

You can do this with hypnosis. Hypnosis is also used as a coaching technique to help entrepreneurs, for example[4]. So precisely to help people who are doing something to make money, also useful if this is in addition to your work.

This is done, for example, with progression. This is an advanced technique that is covered later in the training . You then first imagine that in, say, a year from now you will have work, self-conceived and created or not, that you enjoy. This is where the hypnotist helps you.

You then work backwards from that moment to the moment of hypnosis. How did you get to that successful point with work that makes you happy, work that motivates you and energizes you. This is where the hypnotist helps you conjure up ideas of this.

That way, a plan forms that you can follow to quit work you don't like and thus have an income so that you can live your life with 100% (maybe 90% if you don't like doing housework) happiness and finesse.

To change your work, you also need the confidence to get it right. This technique relies entirely on your own strength and will therefore help you become more confident. Confidence in your own ability.

In addition, other techniques can also help, such as repeating hypnotic suggestions, or affirmations, about how good you are. These will depend on your beliefs and problems you have with your job and with finding or creating other work.
