Using memory past life for self-development
You can use your past-life memories to benefit your current life—this is something you can do with hypnotherapy. This might sound really strange, because what could your past life possibly have to do with your current life? To help you understand this better and see how you can use it, I’ll first discuss the concept of time.
Time and feeling over your life
In reality, there is only the “now,” and time is a succession of “now” moments forming a “continuum.” But this also means that time is essentially a construct of the brain, because it implies a past and a future, whereas in reality there is only the “now.”
For our brain you can understand that concept, but yes you still think about yesterday and what you are going to do tomorrow. So in our head there is an agenda. You know when something is going to come and when something has been, but somewhere you also know that there is only now.
In our heads, it's linear. But our body is vertical, which is always in the now. So in your head you can think of other times and travel in time, but your body remains in this moment.
For example, I am with my body in Krommenie, but my mind is relaxing in the pool in Curacao. In my mind I can even feel the water and smell the scents.
My brain can create anything I want. Even all kinds of physical sensations, while my body is still in the same place.
With this idea, you can actually go anywhere. We can go to a different "now" with our brain. Like a now from a hundred years ago, yesterday or tomorrow. You often do that already when you make plans. You often get images and ideas then.
Or maybe you have to give a presentation tomorrow and you’re already feeling the stress. That’s because your brain—your thoughts—is already there, and it can already trigger that pre-presentation tension in your body. Just like when you think about your last vacation—you can feel how wonderful it was back then.
So your body feels those sensations at home, too, because your body thinks it's in that pool.
So your brain can distort things so that your body feels like it is.
Resolving past life memories for your present life
If you understand that, and I think you do, you can also understand the concept of reincarnation and procarnation. In reincarnation, you look back to past lives with your thoughts, your mind.
Time is then a kind of vertical axis, on which you can travel with your brain. My thoughts can go to a vacation or to a past life. For example, that I am in the Wild West in the year 1800 something more and there I am in a covered wagon and riding on the prairie. My body feels all kinds of sensations and maybe I smell it, but maybe I also feel what it was like and the problems I had there.
If I experience them there, then I experience them here as well. Because there is only the present. That’s what you do with reincarnation therapy. You assume that the problems you’re facing now stem from a past life.
That's because it's all now. With this idea, with this workable model, your mind will make something of it.
With that therapy, you travel in your mind to your past life. You resolve it there and then it doesn't bother you now. This is because you then actually resolve it now.
This is the same idea as when you solve a childhood problem in your mind.
All your senses, knowing, feeling, thinking, hearing and seeing are on the prairie. That is the power of hypnosis. You get the idea that you are there, but you are just sitting in the hypnotherapist's chair. But with your thoughts you are there and then you can solve it.
Hypnotherapy can incorporate past-life regression if that is something you believe in. The point is that the therapy supports you using the resources you have. If you have a memory of a past life and want to do something with it, you can certainly work with it[1].
In the West, reincarnation is often viewed crazily, but for people from a Hindu background, it is already much more normal[2]. In doing so, there are techniques that help you go back to past lives (source 2).
In addition, research on past lives has been conducted since the 1960s, and children can sometimes provide details that only make sense if they can remember their past lives (source 2).
Researchers do indicate that there are different experiences with regression and how well it works for people who use it as a form of therapy to really go back to their childhood or in time[3].
This is still fairly manageable for most people. That you go back and fix it.
Moving forward in time for now
But you can also move forward with this idea, then. Back in the 1950s, there were theories that if you can help people by going back in time in your mind, you can also help people by going forward in time. That theory did involve a time of your own life[4]. This is then called an age progression.
But I want to expand it a little further for a while. We can also go to the next life, another now. For example, the year 23,150 and experience there. I suddenly feel a problem there too. Then if you feel that problem there, you also feel it here now. But perhaps it is more strongly present on the surface there than it is now in my life in Krommenie. If I solve it there, I also solve it here.
I have made many journeys to past and future lives in this way. In my opinion, every life has a certain theme that can be worked out. For example, in a past life on that prairie, the theme was loneliness. That is not on the surface with me now here in this life. I have a family and four children. So I don't feel lonely, but in that life I do.
But apparently, I feel lonely here as well, even though I’m not fully aware of it. I’ve now resolved that issue in my past life—in my mind—and back then, I felt much more grounded here.
In the next life I was in, I just didn't feel connected. I didn't feel physically connected to people, I don't really experience that consciously here either. On the surface, it's not really a theme in my life.
But I know that, on a subconscious level, it’s apparently a recurring theme, and this leads to all kinds of behaviors. In my mind, I resolved that issue back then with hypnotherapy, and then I suddenly felt my heart again here—a kind of warm feeling in my chest.
Everything is now and therefore resolve now
That's kind of interesting. That's why I don't really believe in reincarnation and past and next lives, but I believe it all happens simultaneously until it's all lived through. Until you remember who you really are and that is light and love.
To your idea, it may take thousands of years to live all those lives, but I believe in the cosmos this is just a snap of the fingers and then it's done.
But that's just what I believe, in case you don't quite follow me anymore.
It's like you're sleeping and you're not dreaming. You then have no idea about those eight hours of sleep. Now you have. You have no idea how long it all takes. Your brain makes something of it, but somewhere it's also just a flash.
Because your brain makes something of it and because you can imagine past and future lives, you can resolve things quickly.
You can always work on yourself
But at the same time, after working with those themes, I had the realization that while I can always do that, you can never actually find what you really are. There is always some theme that you can solve. Outside of yourself, you can't find what you are. You can keep searching and solving all kinds of things, but outside yourself you don't find yourself.
But you won’t find it within yourself either. You won’t find it in your emotions, feelings, or thoughts either. Because that, too, is a projection, and it’s all part of life.
But I do think it's good to get involved and clear things up all the time. This can be done with your current life, but also with the idea of your past life and future lives. That also makes time suddenly not so linear.
That can be an invitation to look further. And you can start somewhere, and you can start with a regression like this.
It’s the same with personal development. You can always keep growing. You keep going until you realize, “That’s not where I’m at.” But you can often only say that after you’ve worked through all sorts of issues. And at some point, you’ll find it easier to let go of certain things, which helps you live a lighter life.
Experiencing this is often a lot stronger than knowing it can be done.
If you are very troubled with yourself, suffering from anxiety for example, hypnotherapy can be very helpful in clearing certain thoughts.
I do this regularly with myself as well.
This working on yourself is the beginning of the road.
But don't fall into the trap of "more," because there's always more. You can always get going. But at some point you'll find the peace of mind to say it's so good.
You will meditate, engage in the law of attraction, create things to see if something succeeds. You go through all kinds of things, which also makes you grow as a person and in dealing with other people. These are all things that are good to learn.
For example, I got a lot out of hypnotherapy, which also made me realize that basically everything is hypnosis. But that took more than a decade for me to realize that.
