Sustainable employability: Hypnosis to improve your sustainability

Sustainable employability is "so hot right now," but what is it really? Sustainable employability is really about being able to do your job without experiencing burnout, depression, injury or even disability.

As more and more people suffer from burnout and depression, and the retirement age is being raised, sustainable employability has become increasingly important.

After all, you want to be healthy, productive and having fun at work.

But how does this actually work?

There are a number of factors important to sustainable employability, namely:

  1. Being mentally and physically healthy.
  2. Work-life balance.
  3. Adaptability/ lifelong learning.
  4. Job satisfaction.

This is important for your vitality, among other things.

Vitality sustainable employability

Vitality is not just about your physical condition and whether you have energy. It is also about whether you can bounce back after a setback, and that simply goes better when you are mentally healthy.

Reduce stress and learn to optimize with hypnosis

After all, you can then realize that bad moments in your life will also pass and deal with negative emotions better.

This also helps reduce stress. Hypnosis can help improve your vitality and reduce stress, even when practiced through group hypnosis alone[1].

Another way to improve your vitality is to take adequate care of yourself. If you are totally absorbed in your work, as is sometimes the case with teachers or people in healthcare, this can cause you to lose sight of yourself and taking good care of yourself.

With hypnotherapy, you can help people focus more on themselves so they can achieve a good work-life balance, giving them the time to take good care of themselves[2].

Personal development also helps you feel more energetic. After all, you learn more about your field or about yourself, which enables you to navigate difficult situations more effectively. Interestingly, the state of hypnosis alone is very beneficial for gaining greater self-insight and improving your ability to learn[3].

If there is someone in authority from whom you can learn something, for example, you can enter a kind of hypnotic state during a lecture that makes you absorb the information well. (Then, of course, you have to eliminate distractions from your smartphone)

This may explain why audiobooks have become so popular. After all, if read aloud in the right tone, it can be hypnotic.

Being totally absorbed in an audiobook works much the same as being absorbed in a book you read, but it is different again from being absorbed in music[4].

Hypnotherapy can also make you aware of automatic processes in how you approach things and break through and change those processes[5]. This is particularly useful if those automatic processes are hindering your sustainable employability.

Hypnosis for physical professions

Do you have a physical profession? Then hypnosis can help you with your motivation and behavior to take good care of your body, such as allowing you to follow a fitness program or training on how to best use your body in certain activities.

Sometimes, your job can also cause back pain or other physical complaints that require rehabilitation.

Hypnosis can then help make the rehabilitation process easier and combat pain with less medication[6].

Sustainable employability education

Teachers often have to deal not only with knowledge transfer, but also with the development of their pupils and students in other areas, such as motor development and social development. In addition, teachers in school education also have to deal with parents.

An awful lot is asked of teachers. That doesn't always make being a teacher easy. Researchers indicate that self-management for teachers is very important for their sustained employability and even for getting sustainably employable students (as if the pressure wasn't already high enough)[7].

Self-hypnosis can also help reduce stress and improve self-regulation. However, it is important to first have a few sessions with a hypnotherapist to properly learn how to make self-hypnosis work for you[8].

Sustainable Employability Construction

If you work in construction, you have a more physically strenuous job. Because of this, there are many voices calling for people with "strenuous jobs" to still have an earlier retirement age than people who work in the office all day, for example.

Now, however, that is not the case, and so it is important to optimize yourself for sustainable employability.

In addition, it is good to think about what you can do if your body is simply no longer fit to lug rocks or other heavy equipment all day[9].

For example, are there tasks in the construction company office that can be done correctly by someone with hands-on experience?

Or is it even necessary to completely retrain (such as to become a hypnotherapist 😉 ) in order to do something different after your career in construction?

Being able to transform from someone who works with the hands to someone who works with the head sometimes needs some help in the person's identity and self-confidence that he or she can do it. That's where hypnosis can play a role.

That's not to mention the mental risks of working in construction. For example, high-rise construction is increasingly popular, but working at heights is not without danger and can cause anxiety and stress for people in construction.

Of course, there are many rules to ensure safety during construction, but even then, you are working at high altitude.

During breaks, self-hypnosis and progressive muscle relaxation can go a long way toward relieving the day’s stress[10], for which your body will thank you in the long run.

In addition, hypnosis is also effective in treating a fear of heights.

Sustainable employability care

In the healthcare sector, collaboration is incredibly important, which is why trust in your colleagues is crucial for sustainable employability in healthcare. When healthcare workers can collaborate effectively as a team, it benefits the health and productivity of all team members[11].

Even if everything goes well, the workload in healthcare can still be very high. Healthcare professionals are also at a greater risk of burnout than other professionals because they sometimes continue to care for others even in their personal lives.

This makes it hard to relax.

Exploratory research on hypnosis training for people in care suggests that it can help reduce factors that contribute to the development of burnout. Researchers indicate that more research on hypnosis to prevent burnout for healthcare workers is needed[12].

French research also shows that knowledge of hypnosis and can be good for the care clients receive and good for the personal health of the care worker themselves. Participants reported that knowledge of hypnosis was good for being able to regulate their emotions, experience a better quality of life, and experience more comfort in their workplace[13].

How hypnosis helps

It is difficult to explain in a short text how hypnosis then contributes to sustainable employability, but that it works is clear from all the research.

Hypnosis and hypnotherapy not only promote relaxation but also help you change the beliefs that cause stress and make it difficult for people to learn more.

Those limiting beliefs are then removed, making it easier for people to stand up for themselves and set boundaries in time. In addition, self-confidence can be boosted to such an extent that people dare to retrain or even retrain when necessary for their sustainable employability.
