Reaching potential: Why you haven't reached it yet, and how to do so

Listen carefully. Most people lead a life of “almost, but not quite.” Not quite the dream job, not quite the relationship where the sparks fly, not quite that inner peace they so long for. They go through life as extras in their own movie. They go about their business, work their hours, watch some Netflix, and go to sleep—only to do the exact same thing the next day.

And you know what the worst part is? They think this is it. They think this is "normal.

Let me tell you today: that’s complete nonsense. There’s a power within you—a potential—that’s screaming to break free. But you’re holding it back. You’re keeping it trapped in a cage of fear, limiting beliefs, and old programming.

In this article, we're going to demolish that cage. We're going to look at what it means to truly reach your potential, how that transforms your work and personal life, and how you can use the power of hypnosis to relegate those stubborn blocks to the scrap heap for good.

The illusion of work: From Survival to Meaning

Let’s be honest: most people hate their Monday mornings. Why? Because they see work as a barter: “I’ll give you my time and my soul, and you’ll give me enough money to pay my bills.” That’s no life—it’s a slow death.

When you begin to unlock your potential, your entire view of work changes. Work is no longer something you "have" to do; it becomes a vehicle for your mission. It is about meaning.

Research shows that when we feel our lives and work matter, our motivation doesn’t have to come from outside sources (such as a bonus or a pat on the back), but bubbles up from within.

A crucial part of this is what we call “job crafting.” You don’t wait for your boss to give you an enjoyable task. No, you take control yourself. You shape your role so that it aligns with your talents and values. Research on leadership and job crafting shows that this not only increases your enjoyment but also directly contributes to your health and well-being[1]. When you take control, the drain on your energy stops.

People who tap into their potential understand that they are not defined by their job title. They are the creators of their own impact. They feel that they are contributing to something greater. And that feeling—that your life matters—is the most powerful fuel there is. Without that connection to your work, you’re just a machine waiting for the next software update[2].

Your private life: mirror of your inner world

You may think your work and personal life are two different worlds. "Edwin, when I'm at home, I'm a different person." Forget it. You take yourself everywhere you go. If you suppress your potential at work, you will come home frustrated and empty. And guess who suffers as a result? Your partner, your children, and yourself.

To feel really good privately, stop looking for happiness in external things. A bigger car or a vacation to Bali is not going to close the hole in your soul. What will work? A sense of control and mastery.

There is a fascinating connection between how we experience control over our lives and our physical health. People who feel they are in the driver’s seat of their own lives literally live longer and healthier lives[3].

That sense of control comes from realizing your potential. It means you are no longer a victim of circumstance, but the architect of your own happiness.

In your personal life, this means choosing activities that truly nourish you. Not passive consumption, but active growth. Whether that's playing sports, learning a new skill, or simply making deep connections with others. It's about showing up as the best version of yourself, not the jaded version that can only lie on the couch.

The brake on your success: Fear and obstacles

Now I hear you thinking, "Sounds nice, Edwin, but I don't know how. I'm scared. I hesitate."

Of course you’re afraid! Your brain is programmed to keep you safe, not to make you happy . Your brain wants you to stay in that safe, boring cage, because the tigers won’t eat you there. But in that cage, you’ll die a slow death of regret.

The biggest obstacle to reaching your potential isn’t a lack of talent or opportunities. It’s the invisible wall of your own beliefs. “I’m not good enough.” “Who am I to do this?” “What if I fail?” These thoughts are like viruses in your operating system. They run in the background and eat up all your processing power.

And this is where most coaching and psychology go wrong. They try to talk to you about your problems. They want you to understand why you are afraid. Fine, but understanding won't solve anything. You can't fix a computer by talking to it. You have to rewrite the code.

Hypnosis: The highway to your unconscious mind

If you truly want to reach your potential, you need to go to where the decisions are made: your subconscious mind. About 95% of what you do, think, and feel stems from your subconscious programming. If you don’t change that, you’ll keep hitting the same walls, no matter how hard you try with your conscious willpower.

Hypnosis is the ultimate tool for rewriting that code. It’s not hocus-pocus; it’s pure neurology. When you enter a state of hypnosis , your brain activity changes. You gain access to those deeper layers where your fears and blocks are stored[4].

Let's look at what hypnosis can do for the two greatest enemies of potential: fear and pain (physical or emotional).

  1. Overcoming fears

Fear is often nothing more than a mislearned response from your nervous system. Your subconscious mind thinks that presentation at work is a life-threatening situation. With hypnosis, you can break that connection. You teach your system that it’s safe to be visible, safe to take risks.

Research on the treatment of anxiety-related disorders with hypnosis consistently demonstrates how effective it is at breaking those deep-rooted patterns[5]. Imagine what you would do if the fear of failure were simply no longer part of your system. You would be unstoppable.

  1. Managing stress and blockages

We live in a world of chronic stress. That stress locks away your potential. You go into survival mode, and in survival mode, you can’t create. Hypnosis is one of the most powerful ways to reset your stress system and change other patterns[6]. It takes the tension off the rope, creating space again for creativity and intuition.

  1. Breaking down physical and mental barriers

Sometimes your body holds you back. Pain, fatigue, vague symptoms. These are often physical manifestations of mental blocks. Even with chronic pain, hypnosis has been proven to change the perception of that pain , giving you back the freedom to move and live. If you no longer see your body as a limitation, what’s holding you back?

The role of meaningfulness and motivation

Why do all this? Why bother to face those fears and change your programming?

Because there is nothing more painful than looking back at the end of your life and realizing that you never played the music that was inside you.

When you reach your potential, a natural flow emerges . You no longer need to “motivate” yourself. Motivation is for people who do things they don’t really want to do. When you live in alignment with your true self, you have inspiration. You’re drawn by a vision of the future, rather than having to be driven by discipline.

This has a huge impact on your job performance and overall satisfaction. Companies that understand that the well-being and meaningfulness of their employees is the key to success thrive.

It's about creating an environment where people are allowed to show their potential[7]. But don't wait for your employer to create that environment. Create it yourself, in your own head.

What can you do now?

I'm not into vague advice. I want you to take action. Here's how to start unlocking that potential:

  1. Stop lying to yourself. Acknowledge where you’re holding yourself back. What are you afraid of? Write it down. Make it concrete. Fear thrives in the dark; as soon as you shine a light on it, it loses its power.
  2. Rewrite your story. Who are you when that fear isn’t there? What does your ideal workday look like? How do you interact with your loved ones when you’re bursting with energy? Start living as if that version of you already exists.
  3. Tap into your subconscious. Stop trying to solve things with your logical mind. Your logic has brought you to where you are now, and apparently that’s not where you want to be. Use self-hypnosis, meditation, or find a good hypnosis coach. Go deep. Clear out the clutter from the past so you can make room for the future.
  4. Take control of your health and your happiness. Understand that your well-being is a choice. The feeling that your life matters is a result of the actions you take every day. Choose growth, even if it feels uncomfortable at times.

The world is waiting for you

Reaching your potential is not a luxury. It is your obligation. Not only to yourself, but also to those around you. The world needs people who burn with passion, who know who they are and who use their unique talents to make an impact.

Whether that's by running a business, being a great parent, or creating a work of art, do it with everything you've got. Break down those barriers. Overcome those fears. Use the power of your unconscious to break the chains of the past.

You have the tools. You have the scientific evidence that shows it can be done. The only thing missing now is your resolve.

Are you going to stay asleep, or are you finally waking up?

The choice is yours. But I'm telling you: the world will look a lot brighter when you finally leave that cage and show what you're really made of.
