Fed up! How hypnosis helps
Are you fed up - your job, your relationship, your family, your friends, how people treat you? That's actually a very good thing. When you are fed up with something, you are actually angry, and anger is a motivating emotion
What are you fed up with?
You've probably googled "I'm fed up," but what are you fed up with? Being fed up with something is actually an incredibly great starting point to change your life and stop being fed up.
Then first go over what you are fed up with. Write down what you are fed up with and how it got there.
If you find it difficult to identify what you are fed up with and what may be causing this, hypnosis helps.
For example, through regression, you can find out why something turned out the way it did and what belief has been holding you back from changing things up until now.
With regression, you go back to the event that caused you to have a belief that now causes you to be fed up with something.
For example, if you are fed up with people treating you badly, regression will help you find out why you never stated your boundaries before or keep dealing with people who are not good for you.
Usually, this is an event from your childhood. That’s because this is when your beliefs are formed. Sometimes this can be a very illogical event that’s now causing problems.
Precisely because you can now look back at it with the mind of an adult, you can change your beliefs incredibly quickly to quickly do something about your current situation.
Another technique for figuring out what you are actually fed up with and how it got to this point is to have a Socratic conversation. This is a technique used with cognitive behavioral therapy that can be used while you are under hypnosis.
With a Socratic conversation, the why question is repeated several times to get to the heart of your problem and beliefs. Then the hypnosis expert knows what needs to be worked on.
Indicating that you are fed up
Whatever you are fed up with, if other people are involved, it is important to be able to point this out. It can be very exciting to stand up for yourself. Therefore, help can also be given here by a hypnosis expert.
If you find it difficult to say “enough is enough,” a hypnosis expert can help you in various ways—namely, by building your self-confidence and supporting your ability to visualize how to say that something needs to stop or change.
For example, to support your imagination, guided visualization is used. In that visualization, the hypnosis expert helps you deal with the feelings you may have at a time when you are standing up for yourself.
For example, the tension you might feel when you confront your manager about the overtime you’ve been working for more than three months now is something you’ll learn to release during a guided visualization like this. Or the tension you feel when you want to talk to your partner about the mess he or she makes around the house and that it’s really time to make some agreements about it.
You’ll learn to recognize the physical reactions you might experience in such moments and how to reduce those reactions, which will also help you cope better with anxiety. This will help you express yourself more clearly during the conversation and allow you to present all the arguments you need to finally get a day off or to get a colleague to help out so you don’t have to work overtime every day.
A guided visualization can then go as follows:
"You arrived at work on time and feel confident. You literally stand firm and straighten your back once again. You take a few quiet breaths through your stomach and relax your muscles. You've already indicated that you wanted a word with your supervisor. You give him/her a firm hand and begin your story. You continue to speak calmly in a clear tone of voice. You respond calmly to questions from your supervisor and take time to think of answers to the questions if your supervisor has them. You leave the conversation feeling good."
This is just one example, but what really stands out is the use of techniques that help you stay calm during stressful moments. Saying that you’re fed up can be one of those moments when this comes in handy.
Changing your own behavior
So you may be fed up with the behavior of others, but they generally respond to your behavior. Therefore, it is also important to hold a mirror up to yourself about what behavior you want to change.
Maybe that's not even that hard, because who knows, maybe you're secretly fed up with your own behavior.
Also for changing your behavior, it is important to find out why you behave the way you do. For example, why do you find it difficult to say no when your boss asks you to work overtime (just to name a few). Those unhelpful beliefs are needed to counteract those with helping beliefs, for example:
Unhelpful belief:
If I say no to my job I get fired.
Helpful belief:
When I set my boundaries at work, the quality of work I deliver is better.
A hypnosis expert will list some of those helping beliefs for you that you can then repeat at home during self-hypnosis. By making the helping beliefs stronger, you will also act on them more quickly.
If your manager comes at you again with a request for overtime, you can point out that this isn’t helpful because, after the umpteenth time working overtime, you’re bound to be tired, which doesn’t do the quality of your work any favors.
Another example is:
Unhelpful belief:
If my boss wants me to work overtime, I'm the only person who can do it.
Helpful belief:
My colleagues are as good at my job as I am, it's ok if I offer an alternative to my supervisor.
In this case, you can also sell the no with an alternative of who in your workplace is also fit to do the overtime, so you can alternate working overtime with those colleagues.
As a result, no one gets overtired in the long run.
Applying self-hypnosis
To practice self-hypnosis, you’ll first work with a hypnosis expert. Then, find a comfortable spot at home where you can lie down or sit. Next, breathe evenly through your abdomen and relax your muscles. Then close your eyes and repeat the hypnotic suggestions you received from your hypnosis expert, or play the hypnosis expert’s MP3.
Doing this daily will change your behavior faster, allowing you to do something about the situation you are fed up with faster.
Changing/defining your goals
If you’re tired of your job or hobby, it’s time to reorient yourself. Do your goals still align with who you are? What do I really want right now?
To determine this ask yourself the following questions, with these a hypnosis expert can help:
- Who and what am I?
- How much and how easily can/will I develop myself?
- What are my potential goals?
- How much time can I devote to meeting my goal?
Once you have this written down, choose the best goal among the possible goals. You can talk about tangible goals and emotional goals. For example, you want to do your work with more focus and pleasure.
Now you're going to start using hypnosis. You are going to visualize what it looks like when you achieve your goal and how you feel when you have achieved your new goal. How you feel while achieving your goal.
If you find this difficult, a hypnosis expert can help you with this visualization by asking questions and pointing out how an emotion feels, such as:
"You feel relieved, confident, happy and proud. You take deeper breaths and feel how you are straighter and firmer."
Once you have put together a good visualization with the hypnosis expert, you can repeat the visualization at home to achieve your new goals and get out of your old situation that you are fed up with.
Hypnosis thus helps to change your behavior in order to do something about the situation you are fed up with. Addressing this requires self-confidence, and with that, hypnosis helps you too. When you need a long-term behavioral change, self-hypnosis can help you hold it for a long time.
