What is success? And how it is achieved
Successful people don't always consider themselves successful. I find this a very fascinating fact. What is success anyway? We all have some idea of that, what success is. As far as I am concerned, success is a very big hypnosis
You don’t have success; you can’t grab hold of it. Success is something you do—what you’re doing right now. Being successful, then, is something you are. You are successful.
I think everyone is doing that. That everybody does successful things, but we have certain values attached to it that make others start saying, "Now you're successful and you can say that about yourself."
It feels very crazy when you don't experience that yourself, because you don't feel like you're doing things successfully yet.
Of myself, I know that I do a lot of successful things. For example, I do many things well and also the things that others would say are not good I do very well.
For example, I can very successfully not listen to anyone.
That's not always convenient, especially in private situations. So in not listening, I am very successful. Another would say I'm unsuccessful at listening.
True, I am not doing that successfully yet, but I am successful at not listening.
You could say you do everything successfully, but what is the degree of it? This is different for everyone.
So we are always doing successful.
Life = success
Breathe = success
Drinking without spilling = success (although spilling is also very successful)
Basically, you are continuously doing very successful things.
What is success?
It is only we who have assigned values to it, allowing us to say whether we or others are successful. We often say that someone else is truly successful, but what that means is different for everyone.
Sometimes this has to do with money. Someone with a million euros in their bank account is often seen as successful because money has value.
It can also be measured in terms of time. If someone has been in a relationship for twenty years, that’s very successful. Or if someone works out three times a week, that’s successful.
When you compare this to yourself and you don't have a million dollars in your bank account, or you're not in a 20-year relationship, or you work out once a week (or never), you suddenly feel like you're not good.
Then you don't feel successful.
Then you can even start to say that you don't care about success at all. This is then also very interesting. For example, you breathe, very successfully, but just don't do that. Just be unsuccessful at it for five or 10 minutes, then you just die.
You then don't think the values people have attached to success are important. That's different from not finding successful doing things important.
You can also be successful at failing or at putting things off.
I find the whole idea of when something is success very interesting.
When will you be successful?
People often say I have a certain level of success, but internally I don't have that idea. I can still very successfully avoid things or find them scary.
I don't consider that to be successful then.
I have a certain idea of what I would like to be like and if I manage to do that 24/7 I will be successful. Is that achievable? I think so.
But I could, for example, relax better than I do now. I don’t think I’m very successful at that yet.
I would also like to make even more of an impact, share my ideas and become even bigger with my business. I haven't achieved that yet either, that idea. I'm working on it nicely, but I don't have that level of success yet.
There are all pieces in between.
But it’s not that I’m frustrated that I’m not there yet. I see a lot of people getting frustrated that they haven’t achieved success yet, even though they’re doing many things that are successful.
I used to have that, but I don't anymore. I don't want to get frustrated anymore and I can do that, which is also a measure of doing things successfully.
The outside is never the inside.
What you see on the outside of the idea of success most people do not consider success because they place a different value on it.
It's nice for yourself when you have your own standard of success. Your own value of success.
If you say you don't think it's all that important, you can do very successfully in that. In not finding something important, that's where you are successful. You are successful in experiencing peace or making a connection with other people.
For example, you can say that being successful for you is having a connection with people you love.
When you then put all that under the microscope, you can suddenly say that you are quite successful.
When you then make such a list in what you do well and what you do well not well, you still see that you are very successful. And that feels good.
It's also in your nature to make things better and move forward. This may include taking 15 minutes of rest instead of five.
The moment you start comparing yourself to other people you suddenly feel unsuccessful. But when you compare it to yourself? Then it feels much better.
When you look at it this way, everything other people think falls away, and it's all fine. Then all that matters is improvement, and even standing still is then okay. Experiencing things, enjoying things, you can also become more successful at that. Enjoying and dwelling on small and big things.
Everyone is successful at something, and everyone is successful in their own way. So it’s not at all helpful to compare yourself to other people.
Detaching yourself from comparing yourself to others and looking more from wonder and admiration helps better.
If something doesn't work out the first time, that's fine, because almost nothing works out the first time. Then you know where you start and there is room for improvement.

Success and Science
The text above is primarily intended to help you stop comparing yourself to others and to encourage you to think more from a place of your own strength and your own beliefs about success.
Scientists have also studied why wealthy people keep getting wealthier and why happy people keep getting happier. Your self-image turns out to be very important in this regard—particularly the feeling that you have a starting point and that you can build on it. So, rich and happy people also don’t compare themselves to others; instead, they mainly compare themselves to who they were yesterday or last year—what they were doing then, what their relationships were like back then, and what they’re doing now.
The better a person thought about themselves, the better the success became and the more success was achieved in a shorter period of time[1].
Hypnosis can also help you achieve success in your life. For example, hypnosis is widely used to quit smoking[2], to breathe clean air successfully, and for athletes and entrepreneurs[3], it is often a way to get the most out of themselves.
Are you currently finding it difficult not to compare yourself to other people? Are you very good at things you don't want to be good at? Then a hypnotherapist can help you shift the focus from comparing yourself to others to yourself.
You can also help yourself with self-hypnosis.
