Treating tinnitus with hypnosis: DJ over your own ear

Some time ago, I helped Jessica with tinnitus, or tinnitus. So in this case, the treatment tinnitus went with conversational hypnosis, a form of cognitive behavioral therapy

What is tinnitus?

Tinnitus is hearing a sound without an external source[1]. For example, a squeak in your ear is often tinnitus or you can still hear an electrical device that has a high squeak frequency. For example, the charger of some shavers have this.

But if you can't find such a resource, you often suffer from tinnitus.

Tinnitus is often a ringing in the ear or some kind of whooshing sound. You may also hear people say that tinnitus and tinnitus are the same thing. This is true, you can suffer from this sound in one ear or in both of your ears.

Treatment tinnitus

Initially, it is always helpful to check whether your tinnitus has a physical cause. Sometimes high blood pressure, for example, can cause tinnitus, and you may also have some kind of trauma to your ear from a loud noise.

Tinnitus is not necessarily a chronic condition. A study found that 40% of those who suffered from mild tinnitus and 20% of those who suffered from severe tinnitus had gotten rid of it after five years.

This is important knowledge for people treating people with tinnitus.

There is also evidence that treating depressive symptoms and anxiety can help reduce tinnitus. Hypnosis is also used as part of techniques to treat tinnitus.

With this, for example, I helped Jessica reduce her tinnitus.

Jessica's case study

Jessica suffered from pulsatile tinnitus in her right ear. She thought this was caused by emotional issues. When she thinks about those emotional issues, she feels powerless and betrayed, which triggers violent tendencies.

Her problem had to do with the legal system, a tenant, and people she had to fire or who had left her dental hygienist practice.

Every time she hired a new co-worker she encountered the same thing, gossip and backbiting and no docility toward her (the boss).

She had had two lawsuits involving a woman she had had to fire summarily and a tenant. That tenant still had an appeal against her at that time.

She could not let go of this profession because she had already tried, but the other side just wanted to keep going.

Let go of the fight

Letting go of struggle can give a lot of peace. You then buy off the peace, so to speak.

In your mind, you can step back from the struggle. Something like:“If I’d had the money, you would have gotten it.”This whole idea can already bring you a lot of peace. It can also help reduce your stress.

The "I'll give it to you" and for the rest I'll do my own thing and I'll deal with the letters and such. It's still annoying, but then it doesn't draw as much attention.

Physically you do what you need to do, but mentally you can shut it down. Even without it being closed.

After this, she decided to see if she could arrange differently or something so that everything would be closed as soon as possible.

Yes you can "lose" a lawsuit, but how bad is that? When everything else suffers from the energy of that lawsuit. If this is costing you creativity and connections, then it is more manageable to let it go so that other parts of your life can start flowing again.

Choose your struggle. How long have you been at it? What will it cost you mentally, emotionally and energetically?

In her case, there was a lawsuit involving three people. What can happen is that you then stop trusting other people as well, but yes there are many more people and those three people are just a little annoying.

In addition, you can ask yourself how did nasty people come into your life? Ask yourself this without blame, but out of curiosity. Was there something in you that needed what made you attract certain people? Or did you actually attract people who were doing the same thing as you?

And keep in mind that sometimes you can just have bad luck.

Is there anything you don't want to hear?

In the case of tinnitus, you can also ask yourself if there is something you don't want to hear. If you can resolve that, it may in turn improve your hearing as well.

For example, I became deaf in one ear and it was the ear my wife was sitting next to. We eventually fixed this and then my hearing got better too.

Tinnitus is also something that can be triggered. So what triggers you tremendously? And why does it affect you so much?

Jessica, for example, felt she was not seen and heard by her staff and lied to. That everything was hushed up and there was no communication.

The problem of your life

This feeling of not being heard and seen is a common thread in her life. Ever since childhood, by both parents.

She had talked about this with her father - who was still alive - and he understood her and indicated that he did not have parents as role models and apologized. This was a beautiful moment for her, which had a lot of impact.

Of course, many people do have times when they don't feel seen and heard.

Those excuses help take back that lack. He then takes that back, so to speak.

If something like this has happened in your life, but you still don't feel heard and seen, you can have your older self talk to your younger self in your mind (or in hypnosis). The latter can tell the child in you that everything worked out for the best and that now Daddy does see and hear you and understands you.

This exercise gave her immense relief.

Then, in her mind, she started the conversation with her late mother. Who said, "I didn't feel seen and heard either, and certainly not by your father."

In this way, if you have an understanding from both sides, even if it is only in your mind, then there is no problem.

After this, she felt happy

Now let’s look at the legal system. This is already a strange system, because it’s based on guilt. Someone has to be guilty.

The legal system was no longer important, but what her parents said was most important.

Still, it is useful to consider this as well.

Things are as they are, but it doesn't have to do with you. You have to deal with it, but it has nothing to do with you. That's a big difference.

Now if she were not heard in the trial it would feel uncomfortable, but no longer hated. Like at the beginning of the session.

To be able to let go of such a case, it is helpful to recall a time when you gave someone advice or offered something, but that person didn't take it and you were okay with that.

That way, you've already learned that even when you're not being listened to properly, you can deal with that.

What you do is somewhat different from who you are.

Playing the worst-case scenario as a movie

Something else you can do to ease the tension of, say, a lawsuit or other problem is to make some kind of video.

What's the worst that can happen? Then it can only get worse and you can deal with the worst that can happen. Can you live with it? Maybe it's super annoying at first, but at some point you can live with it.

Visualize what's lurking and playing, so it doesn't stay in your mind. Make a movie of it in your mind and you can move that movie forward. Six months down the road, a year down the road, two years down the road? How does the movie feel in each moment? Then if it feels good, you can think about it with that good feeling.

That will save you two years of unpleasant feelings, because in your mind you've already had it.

And it can be accommodating.

Then you also have to let it go, so you don't get stuck in the movie. Let it go, too.

DJ over your own ear

After these exercises for the more emotional and mental problems, the tinnitus had become less than at the beginning of the session.

From a scale of one to 10, it had become a five.

Next, we performed a guided visualization using a volume slider of sorts, like a DJ has on his mixing desk. First, we tested whether she could turn her tinnitus from five to six and back again.

Slide exercise. Could she turn it up?

They could, and that's good news. If you can turn it up, you can turn it down. You apparently have control.

Then she was tasked with taking it to four. She succeeded. And next we looked to see if she could move it down even further.

Then she was on the three.

Was this a level she could live with? It was.

Then we looked again to see if he could do anything more toward the two.

Then he was at 2.8. It took effort, but it worked.

Imagine practicing this every day, when you get up or when you go to bed.

Then it will automatically diminish and at some point the tinnitus goes out completely.

Such visualization often works only after clearing other mental and emotional problems.
