Solve social problems: Start with your own circle of influence.
I had the call a while back to voice message your problems and what I heard a lot was that there were people having problems with a lot of other people. For example, that people need to see how bad society is and what problems there are that all need to be solved.
Of course, it would be super if you could cause some kind of social big change, but the reality is that we often have only a small circle of influence.
Your circle of influence
The annoying thing is, you have yourself and a small circle around it that you can influence. This is also called the circle of influence. Everything outside that circle you have no influence over and then there is no point in being involved with it.
Think about the weather, for example. Policies what politicians come up with. People you don't know you can't influence. It's virtually impossible to influence people you don't know.
You can have very little influence on certain situations, such as the climate or policies on the climate. You can devote your whole life to it, but it will probably accomplish little.
So certain people and situations you cannot change.
Then there are also systems, such as our political system. Or take the healthcare system or certain industries—try changing any of that on your own. None of that will help. Youth services, the tax agency, institutions—that’s a tough one.
I'm not saying it can't be done at all. There are of course people who struggle and go for it. Think, for example, of Pieter Omtzigt bringing up such a surcharge scandal. But has it changed because of that? Actually not, or very little. So that takes a very long time.
It is often more convenient to deal only with the I and the circle of influence.
Ask yourself, What can I influence?
For example, you can influence your thoughts and how you think. You can influence how you feel and what you do.
So you can change:
- Thinking
- Feel
- Do
This is also the solution if you have problems with many people. If you think people should all think differently.
In doing so, it is good to realize that you yourself see the world a certain way.
For example, research shows that the culture a person comes from influences your view of society. For example, research showed that Chinese people think that society will become more and more competent and that society will become better and better.
Japanese again believe more in a dystopia. That society is becoming more competent, but less warm and moral.
Australians are again a bit in between these two images. In a society where economic growth was high, like China, people believed more in everything getting better as well as worse over a long period of time.
This shows that your culture influences how you view the world and what your expectations for the future are [1]. Being aware of this also helps you deal with these perceptions more consciously.
You can change the way you see yourself, for example, so that you think more positively about the world. So that you can think "Everything is good the way it is and it doesn't get more perfect than this, because if it did it would be like this".
Of course, this is very difficult to do and this can be a bridge too far for some people. Because things are not going well in school, or with youth care or that other people are painful.
One way to change your perspective on the world is through hypnosis. Hypnotherapy allows you to alter connections in your brain, which in turn changes the way you understand the world. Even meditation can have this effect[2].
However, the hypnotic state in itself often does not do this yet. By engaging in conversation with a hypnotherapist, or focusing on answering certain questions, you can come to new insights.
For example, the understanding that you yourself are society, that you do and "determine" a great deal yourself.
The society that is you
After all, what if you do it yourself?
How's that?
Imagine that the entire outside world was created by you? That through your actions, thoughts, deeds, and feelings, you have created this world around you?
This is very painful and much more painful than being involved with youth welfare or certain politicians.
So then youth care is not the problem, but you are the problem.
You're not the problem, of course, but it's as much about your own understanding of "wow."
I get that this is tough. I've had it too, because it's very hard to look in the mirror and ask yourself: what is my part? What am I doing?
After all, what if everything outside your circle of influence never changes? What will you do then? Then how do you make sure your world is positive, free, fun, happy and joyful? How do you do that without being concerned with everything outside your circle of influence and by only being concerned with your own thoughts, feelings and actions (what you do)?
Many people who have problems with society need to take this step. The interesting thing is that if you engage as a group to help yourself, such as with a self-help group, it can bring about social change. Especially in Europe and North America these effects can be seen[3]. So it really starts with yourself and to make it all smaller first.
After all, you stop fighting. That takes a lot of energy. It's better to do what you can do.
For example, you help your child by helping yourself. You can choose to stop watching all kinds of videos about how the world works. Because if I have CNN on for 24 hours straight, that’s a bad idea. I can handle it now, but for most people, this is a bad idea.
It's also a bad plan to dive into a YouTube trap full of conspiracy theories. That usually doesn't cheer you up either.
My conspiracy theory
If you still like watching conspiracy theories, I also have a great one for you.
It's actually all good. We are all a child of God. Everyone is actually joyfully programmed.
Perhaps a separate plot.
But we are all made up of light. We ourselves create the world through thoughts. These are not our thoughts, but these we receive. Our job is to realize that thoughts are not our own. Everything consists of imagined thoughts that we don't have to do anything with and we are actually happy all day long.
Nice plot right?
After all, a plot is often negative, because a cheerful plot might not generate viewers. Or does it? (Should I start such a channel? Let me know in the comments below this blog).
My plot then is that the "elite" (whatever that means) are trying to thwart that glee. No idea if that will catch on.
But to make a long story short: You can only influence yourself. When you feel good, cheerful, and happy, regardless of the circumstances. That’s possible, but it’s difficult to do.
Youth services will still be around, annoying politicians will still be around, systems will still be around, but you’ll feel happy.
That's the solution.
Those other people then naturally change. Because those will leave. They don't want to be with a happy person. Then other people come into your community who are just as happy as you are.
You energize yourself
So all the energy you send out to make sure others change, you then use that for yourself. If you use all that energy for yourself, your own thinking, doing and feeling. Then the world will be a very different place in no time.
A good way to start working on yourself is through self-hypnosis. Research shows that this can be very helpful for all kinds of health issues and fears[4], such as the fear that society is getting worse and worse.
In addition, hypnosis can also be used in a group setting (of course, you already knew if you've been to a hypnosis seminar once 😉 ). For example, an entire group can be hypnotized. You can hypnotize 1 person in the group and interact with the group following the session. In addition, for groups, techniques that do something for:
- Relaxation
- Improving lives.
- Encouraging Dreams
- Regression
- Progression and mental practice
- Enhancing Ego[5]
Super convenient!
