Everyone is in hypnosis to a greater or lesser degree, and for me, for example, it's time to get out of some of these hypnoses. That is a path I am on now, to come out of hypnosis more and more. In the coming period, podcasts and blogs will also be more about coming out of your hypnosis.
Let's start right off with a big one, which is coming out of hypnosis of yourself. The IC. When you start dissecting the IC, you find out that that is something you do. In fact, you cannot grasp your IC. Your body of course you can, but is that your IC? Many people think not, because when you are dead your IC is gone, so you are more than that.
"I think therefore I am," is also a great quote. So if I didn't think, I wouldn't be here.
For example, a bacterium does not think, so in that sense it does not exist. It has no self-awareness.
So is that self-awareness your IC?
Your feelings?
When you start thinking about it, you get an interesting interplay of all kinds of things, such as your upbringing, your environment, your experiences and somewhat your genes. But they don't determine who you are; you ultimately do that yourself.
But in the beginning, other people define who you are.
In my case, someone said, "You are Edwin and Edwin is sweet and calm." Okay, then that's me.
We all have reasons for this, because when Edwin stopped going to church at 14 and turned to drugs at 16, it was because he stopped going to church. Then he became completely unhinged. But yes, maybe it was also because of that church.
But all in all, of course, it was because of me, because of my own hypnosis.
That's because you find IK things important. I find it important to do only fun things and if I don't do that, my IC gets cranky. If I don't experience freedom, then my IC doesn't like that either. So that IC has a very busy life. It is very busy.
The IK is made up of 1 major hypnosis.
When you are born, and you can't remember that thankfully, having to work your way down a shaft and having your head pressed together, you don't want to remember that either. Then you're pretty fresh to build something with.
This is a bit of a Navy Seals idea, that you are first completely broken down to build you back up again.
So it starts with where you were born, because that makes you a Dutchman, African or Indian. That's also in your passport. So then I already have a kind of cultural identity.
Then I also have a family identity. Am I the oldest, middle or youngest? That also determines a lot. The oldest gives a lot and the youngest takes a lot. In any case, you often see that principle in systemic work.
You don't have to do anything for that, you just have to be born. That is already imprinted right away, whether you want it or not.
Dutch people do this, we like hutspot and I don't know what all else.
This all goes in unconsciously, you don't even realize it.
You'll also get ideas about how relationships work.
So your IC is determined first by where you are born, culturally, then your environment, such as your family, then your village (or neighborhood). You don't realize this at first, until you go to school. There your identity is also confirmed or destroyed. What you believed about yourself, so then you have to re-identify yourself with other things.
Here's how it continues.
What if you no longer feel IK as yourself?
At some point, then, you may find yourself in an identity crisis.
What it means.
You then discover that that IC is not quite who you want to be. For example, that you haven't figured out for yourself who that IC is. Then it starts to fray with who you would like to be.
Or get experiences that make you think, "Fuck man, this isn't true at all."
Then you can find yourself in a crisis. The Chinese have a great sign for that, namely the sign of danger and an opportunity combined.
Because that unpleasant experience, for example, is seen as danger, or that unpleasant feeling.
And it's also an opportunity.
An opportunity to start creating a new ME. Who do you want to be? That comes from asking what you are. You are not something or someone. You are.
You are consciousness, love and from there you will create an I.
That I is a very small reflection of who you really are. That is "you are."
You may be thinking right now that there should be something behind that, but there isn't. Your IK wants that because he once learned that. Who wants to identify himself, but he doesn't have to.
You could say, "All in one."
If you really start dissecting this you already understand that it doesn't add up. Because everything, the word itself, is part of that unity. But that word also indicates a kind of boundary, that there is a non-everything.
Every word causes you to stay in that separateness. This is why that I is so interesting and why there must be something instinctively behind that "you are."
So that's the first hypnosis, the very first one you get right away. This starts already in the womb with the feelings of your mother and father. That's already an experience.
Then you get out and are born into a place. That's the second hypnosis, cultural hypnosis. Who are we as Dutch people and the familial hypnosis, the village and how do you do it in school?
And before you know it, you're 20 and have no idea who you are. Often you feel like you know very well, but most people don't know at all.
I didn't know it either, somewhere I did know it, but I couldn't quite get there. I was so caught up in the hypnosis of the us and them, the struggles and the groups and things like that. Because of that I couldn't see that none of this existed. That it was all some kind of dream or idea, but not real.
Maybe you sometimes think something is not real and then you start questioning that. And then when people say "no, it is," you just accept it. Even if your thought is correct.
But your IC, that's what you do.
So it's something you do.
Your IC often responds to events as well, and when nothing is going on, there seems to be no IC.
That's crazy, because you want to identify with something.
Maybe you're thinking now that if there's nothing there, what does it matter? Maybe that makes you want to cling to an idea.
Now I don't think that's a bad thing. You're hobbling around the world here, after all.
But if it is still 1 big hypnosis, pick an IK that is also just fine.
So "I'm good enough," "I feel fine," "I can take criticism easily." Then choose something like that. That one just feels better then.
You still won't be out of your IC, and that's okay, but start playing with different types of IC. Until you realize that the I does not exist and that you can choose who you want to be.
When everything else falls away, what's left?
That, then, is exactly what you are looking for.

In any social context be your right IK
You may also have noticed that at some point you are very different in certain situations in your life from others. For example, you may be completely different at work than you are at home. This can make you feel like your IC is inconsistent, and that can be annoying.
For example, research shows that it is better for your well-being and for feeling authentic if you can be consistently yourself[1].
Now, of course, it can be difficult to be completely yourself at work. In fact, the research also shows that the more power you have at work, the more you can be yourself. Therefore, try to find work that suits you, or do like me and create your own work.
