Helping someone lose weight with hypnosis

That you can lose weight using hypnosis is obvious. Hypnosis changes the way you look at food and therefore you have less of a need to eat (unhealthy) and lose weight. Even your need to exercise can increase through hypnosis. However, if you are the hypnotist, it is helpful to know what techniques you can use to help people lose weight.

Find out what you can do to help people lose weight.

Helping someone lose weight is easier said than done. Because instead of motivating yourself to do something about your weight for once, you are now going to convince someone else to take a different approach.

Note! You only help people with hypnosis if they ask for it themselves. You may not give unwanted advice.

Obesity often has two distinct physical causes. A person eats too much or a person moves too little. Sometimes it is also a combination of the two. We leave out obesity caused by illness or medication.

Why people do this depends on a number of things, namely:

  • The role of nutrition in the culture of the overweight person.
  • The role of food in the emotions of the overweight person.
  • The knowledge the overweight person has about nutrition and their genes.
  • The self-image that the overweight person has.
  • The relationship with exercise that the overweight person has.

Culture and Nutrition

Every culture handles nutrition differently. For example, in Finland it is quite normal to be totally silent while eating, while in southern countries eating is the time for sociability and talking.

Eating food can, by culture, even a subculture in a family, cause you to do certain things because it is a set ritual.

Someone is always scooping up two plates, because for some reason that's "how it's supposed to be." Men, for example, may suffer from this because it is seen as masculine in a certain culture.

The question then becomes, what else makes you a man? What makes you satisfied with a sign when you also have other characteristics that are masculine?

Nutrition, for example, is also often a celebration. Something that should make you feel good. This is also why many people turn to nutrition when they are a little depressed or have had a bad day.

To find out what beliefs your client has about the role of food within society or culture, you can ask the following questions:

  • What did your parents used to tell you about nutrition?
  • In what ways did you celebrate with nutrition?
  • Is nutrition something you use when bad things happen?

Changing cultural beliefs regarding nutrition

Many parents tell their children to empty their plates because children are dying in Africa who are not lucky enough to be born in the Netherlands.

As a result, your client may feel guilty if he or she doesn’t eat enough.

To eliminate this sense of guilt, you actually need to reframe the belief —but in a different way.

If you eat too much there is less food left for the children in Africa.

You might still throw away a lot of food at first, but over time you'll start buying less, leaving more for children who really need it.

At least the guilt one then feels does not cause the client to eat even more.

The question about such a belief one has received about nutrition and the culture is:

Is this belief true? Do children really die in Africa if I don't eat my plate?

Emptying your plate obviously doesn't affect poor children in Africa. Neither does throwing away food.

Nutrition and emotions

Generally, nutrition is used to eat away at negative emotions. The task is then to check that those negative emotions cannot go away by other means.

To do this, ask a few questions:

  • How satisfied are you with your life now?
  • How satisfied are you with your life on a scale of 1 to 10?

Especially the question with the scale of 1 to 10 is going to help you, because then you can ask what is missing to get to that 10.

Is this about life choices or about problems with how people deal with emotions and events?

To help people feel better about their lives, regression therapy allows you to go back to moments when everything was going well—the successes people have actually achieved.

Nutrition Knowledge

Sometimes obesity is not a fault of really eating too much and not exercising enough, but simply eating the wrong foods. Lack of knowledge about food preparation and what is healthy food and what is not can cause people to eat just the wrong thing and be way overweight as a result.

Therefore, it is also important to have some knowledge yourself about what constitutes healthy eating now, so that people who want to lose weight do not just take half a pizza instead of a whole pizza.

You can therefore repeat nutrition facts that are true, so check this carefully, as hypnotic suggestions.

The more someone knows about nutrition, the more enjoyable it is to eat mindfully.

The self-image that people have

When we talk about the self-image people have of themselves, we’re not referring specifically to their physical appearance. It’s more about the big picture—body image, self-worth, self-assurance, and self-confidence.

If something goes wrong there, it can affect emotions and eating to eliminate negative emotions.

First, it is important to find out if the person you are helping lose weight in any of those departments of self-esteem experiences this as a problem and is therefore emotionally affected.

Then the task is to improve that part of self-esteem.

By learning techniques to foster self-compassion and self-acceptance, you can take major steps toward preventing emotional eating.

To improve people's body image, you can point out pieces of the body they do like. Even if it's just a birthmark.

It also often helps to point out that every body is unique. Therefore, there also cannot be 1 image of what is beautiful because that means the rest is ugly.

The relationship people have with movement

Changing self-image, outlook and knowledge about nutrition is 1 side of losing weight.

Changing the diet is not the only thing needed to lose weight. Movement is a 2 e part needed for weight loss.

To determine whether your patient or client is physically active, it’s important to assess their relationship with physical activity. In the first instance, it’s really just about physical activity and not about sports.

  • For example, how does he/she feel about taking the stairs instead of the elevator?
  • What image comes to mind when you say exercise is important?
  • What do they think of other people's sweating?
  • Are there any physical activities they enjoy, such as gardening, walking, running, working out, horseback riding, yoga, or dancing?

It can be sports, but it certainly doesn't have to be.

It is important to get a negative image of the gym or a sports club out of the mind. Working out with other people can be very confronting if you are overweight. You are running on a machine and a few feet away there is someone else running who actually has a very good figure. This can cause embarrassment and the desire to be in shape even before they go to the gym.

To avoid that embarrassment, it is important to show that there are several ways to Rome and that you really don't have to go to the gym or sports club.

There are also increasing opportunities to exercise with people you have less trouble moving between. For example, there are swimming pools with an hour of swimming for a size more. Also, gyms are increasingly offering classes just for women.

Making exercise attractive with hypnosis

It is important to make moving right attractive. So this can include setting an image via guided visualization that is appealing to the person who wants to lose weight.

Visiting the zoo with children or grandchildren is another form of exercise that can be made regular. Hiking in the woods and other fine activities.

During this guided visualization, you make the movement form as appealing as possible. The feeling that movement gives to the body is also important.

In addition to this guided visualization, you can also find out when exercise was fun for the person who wants to lose weight. What did he/she do then? Why was it so incredibly fun?
