It's a common phenomenon. Obesity. Many people, not only in the Netherlands, but a very large part of the world struggles with it. Mainly the western world knows this problem all too well. But what exactly is obesity?
What exactly is obesity
Being overweight means that your body has proportionally too much fatty tissue. Of course, you may wonder when you are actually really unhealthy.
There are sports in which competitions are held at the very highest level, such as MMA fighting or sumo wrestling. Some of those people are not even particularly well-trained. Yet it is almost amazing how fast, agile and good their fitness is.
Check out Roy Nelson on the right. The world number 13 in MMA fighting. Who doesn't look particularly trained anyway and is amazingly good.
When you find that you are overweight
If you, as a normal person, notice that you are getting heavier and fatter, you may wonder if you are not slowly heading toward the limit of what we also call being overweight.
There's nothing wrong with having a small belly. Some people are comfortable with that. But when you find yourself gaining fat, exercising less and less to the point of mindlessly shoving that pizza down your throat for the umpteenth time, it's admittedly time to start doing something about it.
You may be fat and feel fine with that. As long as it is not a problem to be able to enjoy eating everything, not having to watch what you eat and how much. The fact that you make little or no effort to exercise and/or sport at least twice a week and feel totally good about it is of course no reason to do anything about it.
What if it becomes a problem
But what if there are ways that deliver the same results and you also feel comfortable with that and lose weight and slim down yet again. So when you are overweight or heading toward the borderline overweight.
That you can still keep eating what you want. That you don't have to exercise. That you can just live the way you want and notice that you still lose weight. Sounds almost "magical" right?
After all, there are plenty of ways and methods to tackle obesity. But what you want to achieve is to continue to benefit in the long run. You want to break the mental pattern and put a new positive pattern in its place.
This is why dieting doesn't work. You stick to a certain protocol. Sure, you may start losing weight, but you gain it back just as soon as you stop. Most are then disappointed that it doesn't work.
What does help is starting with some small adjustments and just doing them. In doing so, train yourself to interrupt the negative pattern and install a new pattern you are comfortable with. Which will pay off in the long run.
