Code red: You can do more than you think

Code red means code death for many people. Because people prefer to stay in the comfort zone, in the dead zone.

This sentence does have a kernel of truth for people. Many people stop moving or stay put when it's too hot. There is of course something to be said for this, but the question is do you suffer or think you suffer from something

What these two businesses are very different.

Let me just give an example.

Last year in March, I started CrossFit. For this I have very good coaching and this really already saves half, or even more.

So I understand when you say, "I'm not going to force myself." That's actually not what I'm talking about here either. He said, "We're going to exercise for 40 minutes." I thought I could do that too, but after eight minutes my body said, "We stop, we pass out and I have to puke." But I kept going anyway. You could say I went over my limit then. Then in those forty minutes I went over my limit at least five times.

But I learned something very interesting there, which didn't really sink in until months later. That afternoon I felt good man. I didn't look it, but I felt good. That was learning moment one.

Some time later, I had the exact same feeling. Then the trainer told me to grab a ball 10 times and I just did it. Learning moment two.

Then I thought, "Wow, my body can just do five times more than I thought."

Now a few years later, I can only feel what my body can or cannot do.

I don't even think I've reached my body's limit of what I can or can't do yet. At first, I did. Then I got discouraged and started training a lot. As a result, I got an injury. My body signaled: "Up to here and no further."

You can then continue training, but very lightly, very gently.

So a lot is in your head and not in your body. You see this, for example, in people who are overweight. They keep going, but a lot of limits are in their heads. The body can do much more. Yes, you can fall down and even really throw up, but you can go on after that.

In your head you may not, but your body can.

Just think of an emergency situation, then suddenly you too can do much more than in a normal situation.

In principle, you can also do this with any workout, but just a side note: you should not do this yourself, but with proper guidance from someone who sees what your body can handle. That person will then intervene if you do force yourself.

So are you listening to your body, or secretly still listening to your mind? Because your mind wants to snuggle up on the couch, it doesn't want to run. It wants to be safe and comfortable.

Even when the weather is too hot, you'll want to stay inside.

Your mind is then busy all the time putting things off and not doing things. This is how it works for most people. You may have already unlearned this, but many people haven't.

So ask yourself if your mind is the boss or just a good servant of what you want. You want the latter.

Feeling what your body does and can do and where the limit is, that's important.

Unfortunately, you can also often override your mind so much that you train your body to pieces. You often see this in elite athletes, not usually in "normal" people. Again, good guidance is essential.

Then when people say you shouldn't do anything in hot weather, I think, "Yeah, give people another excuse to do nothing. Did you happen to exercise yesterday?" Then you are lucky, but if not, start exercising when it is warmer.

Why exercise?

So you can stay healthy later. The quality of your life also goes up immediately. You get more energy, for example. And the more energy you have, the more things you can do. The more you can play with your children, the more sex you can have 😉 , the more you can exercise, the more things you can get done, the more conversations you can have and so on. A lot of energy you can use for that.

To get more energy you can do three things:

  1. Good food;
  2. Sleep well;
  3. Hard training.

Study what sleeping well is. Study what eating well is. Study what hard training is. All kinds of books have been written about this. Read those.

For working out hard, find something that really challenges you. A group class can help you give just a little more than when you exercise on your own. This is better than hanging out in the gym by yourself.

Look for good guidance.

Check YouTube for Tabata workouts, for example. Those are small interval workouts. Those work very well for older people, those over 60. For example, three times seven minutes of Tabata training. People who participated in this lost 25% more fat than people who went to the gym three times for an hour.

So short intense training sessions worked better.

These kinds of hacks are hugely important to add to your life. Even with thirty degrees. After all, what's seven minutes? You feel really great afterwards, your fat melts away, and at least you feel wonderful!

So don't give yourself all kinds of excuses in your head that you'll do it tomorrow, because tomorrow doesn't exist.

If you are not yet working out three times a week, or sleeping for eight hours, you have a challenge and can study this to see how you can tackle it.

The same is true with eating green leafy vegetables. By eating healthy, exercising and sleeping, you already reduce many minor complaints.

Improving Hypnosis and Movement

Hypnosis can be used in multiple ways. For example, to improve your motivation to exercise, even when it's hot. But it can also help you remove beliefs that prevent you from exercising properly.

Research has been done on muscle strength in people who have had a stroke. First it looked at how strong they were. Then they were given hypnotherapy and then the same test was done again.

As it turned out, people who had received hypnotherapy were able to carry more weight afterwards[1]. So the mental limit was pushed with hypnosis.

Hypnosis and sleeping better

Hypnosis can also help you improve sleep. For example, self-hypnosis can help you fall asleep faster. One way to do this is by listening - before you go to sleep - to a guided visualization on an mp3 that helps you relax.

Research shows that people who have sleep problems sleep better through hypnosis and suffer fewer side effects of poor sleep, such as depressive symptoms and anxiety[2].

Hypnosis and healthy eating

When you find healthy eating difficult, there can be many reasons for this. You may not like healthy eating. You may think healthy eating is too expensive. You may think healthy eating takes too much time to make.

Healthy eating affects multiple departments in your life, namely your taste, your self-esteem and your idea of what is easy and difficult and even how easy something should be before you start working with it to achieve "success."

For example, hypnosis can help you lose weight[3] by giving you the idea that you are worthy of healthy eating. By making you feel that healthy eating is delicious, which it is.

So hypnosis can help you push boundaries and make you healthier. To achieve quick results to live a more enjoyable life.

There are all kinds of techniques that hypnosis uses for this purpose, so after just two months you will realize that you can do more than you think, even when it is hot.
