Charging money for a service without feeling like crap
Money is not the most important thing in life, but it is nice to have. I see many spiritual people struggle with that. Because they got something for free and so they want to give it away. But then again, they have to make a living. Still, sometimes you can suffer from a bad feeling when it comes to asking money for a service. But yes, actually that feeling says something about how you feel about how valuable you are.
Everyone has value (and it's financial)
So how does value work now?
You are valuable. There’s no doubt about it. Everyone is valuable, even if you’re the worst criminal.
Money is pretty interesting, too. I am given all kinds of talents and I can use those talents. It is also good to use them, because I am given them for a reason. I am a kind of superhero with certain talents. For some people it is a search for their talent and then when they have found it the question is how to use it.
You can use them in your family, relatives and village community. Then you probably won't get any money for it. It's still totally awesome if you add that value in your personal circle.
When do you get money for something?
You only make money when you add value to the economy. To do that—and I learned this from Jim Roan—it’s important to develop a skill set. You develop a skill, and that earns you a certain amount per hour. But many skills can be learned by anyone, such as how to make hamburgers at a fast-food restaurant.
But you can also have a skillset that few people can develop, such as making rich people even richer. To get a 20% return on a given asset. Then suddenly you get much more money per hour than a few dollars. Then you have to think of thousands or even millions.
You may think something of that, but a man who can do that can literally make a billion dollars a year as a salary. Can you learn it? Yes it can, but it's a lot harder than making hamburgers for a fast food chain.
There is economic value being added in this example, which helps him get paid so much.
You also have companies that add value to lots of people. Like Facebook, which helps billions of people connect. And with that, you make a lot of money.
Money has no morals either. Drug cartels also make billions of dollars a year. They "helped" millions of people get their daily shot. That was also value, it was about supply and demand and people want to pay for it.
Your gift is worth money because you offer value to the recipient
So what does this have to do with spirituality? If you have a talent and you're going to roll it out, you can get money for it.
Soccer players, for example, deserve it because it is also very entertaining. Someone who can play field hockey well already earns much less, because there is less entertainment. That entertainment, again, provides value to the economy.
When you help people with your gift, you only get paid for it if it adds value to the economy.
For example, I am a reiki master and I teach courses in it and treatments. Then I can say an hour of my work or gift or something, something that took me years to develop, has a certain value. So I can charge money for that hour, what I think it's worth. I charge it and I provide value to clients.
The value may be that that person does suddenly see the home, partner or job of his/her dreams. Whatever the value, as long as it is valuable to the economy you get paid.
Not charging money is putting someone in debtYou can also do it because you like it and not charge money for it. Then you're not providing value to the economy. Of course I don't have to, but imagine if I give away my time to someone to help that person. Then I lose that time, but I could have spent that time on children or my partner.
But I decided to spend that time with someone I may or may not know, but I delivered value.
Then I actually put the one in debt.
This has to do with the law of reciprocity. I give him something, I don't want anything in return. Then I am actually preventing the other person from giving as well. That is actually a very unpleasant feeling.
Just imagine if I kept bringing you gifts all the time, but never wanted anything in return. That would feel awkward, because you’d want to be relieved of that sense of obligation .
Every time you give something to someone you put them in debt. It feels very good for you to give something, but to the other person it may seem very different. That's why it's always good to ask for something in return, if only to avoid giving that other person some kind of guilt.
When talking about asking for money, you often see people include thoughts like:
"Yes, but I was born with it, then you can't charge for it."
So suppose you were born with a very mathematical brain, like my son. Then he might soon be able to do financial analysis for a bank and earn hundreds of millions a year for that bank. Should he then start giving that away for free? Like: "That's my gift, so I can just do that very well, save your money." That sounds very crazy, doesn't it?
Money Must Roll
Or a soccer player who wants to play soccer for a club for free. Messi, for example, wanted to stay at a club for less money or even for free, but the League did not allow him to do so. So it's not even always allowed if you have a certain talent. So even if you want to give it away for free, it's not allowed. You have to get money for your talent.
That's an interesting mindset I want to give you, because what if you get money. What will you do with it? Maybe you'll give it to charity, maybe you'll spend it on a small business owner. In turn, you will be contributing to the economy.
For example, you charge 50 euros for a session and then you go to the baker with it. The baker takes it back to the butcher. That butcher goes to the Kruidvat and they then pay staff and tax and so on. The Tax Department spends it on a new city hall, I'll name a few.
So that $50 bill rolls and changes hands. With that, it can also become worth more. However, this can only happen if it rolls over, not if it stops. If you don't charge money for your services, then it stops. Then you take it out of the flow.
So money has to roll. It has to keep circulating. That way we all get richer. The moment you say you don't need money, you participate in poverty.
If you want everyone to live in wealth, you have to start charging money and spending it. If necessary, you ask 100 euros for a session and immediately give 50 euros of it to the Make a wish foundation. And thereby you spread all kinds of things again.
That’s the power of your talent—asking for value in exchange for your talent. Be sure to listen to this podcast as well.

Money questions practice
Fortunately, you're not the only entrepreneur who finds it difficult to ask for money. One way to make this easier is to have some standard phrases you can use when it really is time to not put someone in their debt.
You can practice those phrases with someone you trust[1].
If you find this difficult, hypnosis can also help you visualize how to charge money for your service, so you don't do everything for free. Of course, you do this before you provide the service. By visualizing with hypnosis, you will immediately learn how to reduce or even eliminate that rotten feeling.
Changing beliefs about money
If the idea that you’re putting someone in your debt by not charging for your service isn’t enough to convince you to charge for it, then it might be helpful to change your beliefs about money. Somewhere deep down, there’s a mental block that makes it difficult for you to ask for money.
With regression, for example, you can find out where that belief came from—at what point in your life it originated. Then, using hypnosis, you can reinterpret and change that moment, reducing its hold on you and making it easier for you to ask for money.
