Do you suffer from feeling anxious for no reason? That is incredibly annoying, because then you simply cannot put your finger on why your body is giving you the signal that something is not right. What could it be and how do you solve it? In this blog article we take a closer look.
Physical Cause
Yes, while researching for this blog article, I did come across something that is just a little separate. Namely, there may be something going on in your brain, oxidative stress, which can result in an anxiety disorder.
This simply means that there are substances, free-radicals, that link to parts in your body that can cause inflammation and other problems that would not occur if you had substances in your body that eliminate those free-radicals.
Vitamin C, for example, is one such substance.
If you have too little of this, it can cause damage to your neurological connections in your brain due to the free-radicals, thus causing anxiety for no apparent reason[1]. Other problems it can cause you are mood swings and depression.
Removing physical cause
Actually, it makes perfect sense that taking antioxidants, such as vitamin C, can do a lot to eliminate the physical cause for unexplained anxiety. Research also shows that people who have a diet low in antioxidants suffer significantly more anxiety than those who do have a diet high in antioxidants. Just taking antioxidant supplements for 6 weeks can significantly reduce anxiety disorder[2].
You can also take less unhealthy foods that are high in antioxidants. Think manufactured foods, such as potato chips.
Do you find it difficult to eat healthy? Then a hypnotherapist can help you figure out what this is due to, or simply help you by changing your taste perception of healthy food.
Some diseases and medications can alter taste perception, but hypnosis and self-hypnosis help people restore taste perception. In a case study of a woman who had lost her taste due to cancer treatment, it was found that 10 days of self-hypnosis helped normalize taste perception again[3].
Another case study shows that this can be done with powerful visualizations that use the preparation of flavorful foods to improve taste perception[4].
Do you have children and worry they won't want to change with you if you start eating healthier, because of taste? Research shows that even medications can be made "palatable" to children using hypnosis[5].
Sometimes healthy eating does not resolve unexplained anxiety. In that case, there may be an unconscious mental cause for the anxiety that just won't go away.
Removing mental causation
If you are always anxious with no apparent cause, it may also be that you once experienced something that triggered your anxiety response, but were unable to properly shut it down.
It could also just be that as a child you linked a very mundane thing to anxiety. Unconsciously, then, you may be triggered throughout the day, but because you "figured it out" as a small child, it is now completely unclear to you as an adult why you now need all day with unexplained anxiety.
You may even suffer from "learned helplessness," which is basically the feeling that you have no control over events in your life. Eventually, this can even lead to depression[6].
These types of unconscious causes can be detected with the help of a hypnotherapist. Then a regression is often performed, which can produce surprising results.
For example, one person found out that she had developed an illogical fear of buttons because of a "scary" toy that had eyes of buttons.
Once the cause, the event that triggered anxiety in the first place, is found, something can then be done to eliminate the ongoing anxious feeling.
Cause Closing
For example, do you feel like danger is always lurking? Then you haven't "closed the moment" yet. This can happen to anyone, and it's certainly not your own fault if you suffer from anxiety for no apparent reason. Your brain can subconsciously think up all sorts of things and give your body all sorts of anxious signals that you haven't asked for.
Fortunately, there are techniques that can help you with this.
For example, with the fast-phobia technique. This then helps your subconscious to shut down the moment, allowing your nerves to really calm down for once.
This technique creatively uses visualizations to change your whole sense of the memory so that you can truly put it behind you.
Even if you don't know now why you are always anxious.
Changing ways of thinking
Cognitive behavioral therapy combined with hypnosis also helps reduce anxiety[7]. This can be done through a variety of techniques, such as mindfulness to calm your nerves and hypnosis techniques to change your feelings.
For example, the feeling reversal technique uses colors and symbols to make your unexplained fear more "tangible" so you can change it and get rid of it.
A person is often then asked to point out the fear in the body. To give the fear a feeling.
They can then be asked to designate and color a good feeling, such as being happy or confident in the body.
The color of the good feeling can then brush the color of the bad feeling out of the body, which can also change the unexplained anxiety.
You can even apply this technique during self-hypnosis.
You can also rethink all kinds of thoughts, such as:
- Everyone thinks I'm weird.
Rethinking to: Everyone is more concerned with their own life than with me.
- I'm not good enough.
Rethinking to: I am good enough for people who love me and know me.
- I come across as a silly person.
Rethinking to: Majority of people come from mavo/vmbo, so no one is smart. We are all just doing something and VWO mainly means that you can remember things well. So that doesn't necessarily make you smart in everyday life either.
These types of techniques help you think differently, which can also help you suffer less from unexplained fears.
There are also other cognitive behavioral therapy and hypnotherapy techniques to use to reduce anxiety, even when there is no obvious reason.
Improve self-confidence and self-care
Sometimes you may also feel that you are dependent on other people, and because there is "no one" to "take care" of you, you may suffer from anxiety. Actually, these are signs of low self-esteem.
You think you can't make it on your own.
You may be suffering from limiting beliefs, such as:
- I'm not good enough.
- People don't want to help.
- I have to do everything on my own.
- Asking for help is weakness.
Or something like this.
Even in cases like this, regression helps to identify where such an obstructive belief that causes anxiety comes from. Then this moment can be revisited and in your mind you can even do something with it, such as empathize with other people.
Starting the conversation with the people who were there at the time.
Getting your adult self to talk to your younger self.
The latter in particular can help you see yourself as someone you can care for and see that you are no longer a child. You have more power than you think, and exercises like this make you dare to do more, so that you suffer less anxiety from the experience of "doing."
Learn Hypnosis
So hypnosis can do an awful lot against fears, even those that are unexplained. So ideal to have knowledge of if you want to overcome fears yourself.
Or.
Do you want to help other people with fears overcome them? Then knowledge of hypnosis is incredibly helpful.
