Retire and then: Enjoy your retirement
For some people it is a blessing, for others a curse: Retirement. A lot changes when you retire. After all, overnight, you no longer have to work for the rest of your life. Many people find this pleasant, but it can also create a black hole. Matters that have been left on the shelf in your private life now come to the fore. Retirement
People retire for different reasons. Generally, people retire when they reach state pension age. Age is then the trigger to retire. There are also other triggers, namely:
- An attractive financial offer by the employer.
- Completing a particular project.
- Feeling unwanted at work.
- Disillusionment due to an organizational change at work (not being able to identify with the new direction).
- An epiphany after a major life event (loved one or family member becomes ill or other personal issues).
You would expect age to be the trigger for most people to retire, but in addition, the disillusionment that makes someone feel unable to combine their own goals with the goals of the organization or company is also an important factor for many people to retire when that opportunity is available.
In the process, sometimes you just can't muster the energy to do your job well anymore. The enthusiasm you once had when you started your job has been extinguished by many factors.
Beliefs about retiring
So, retiring also depends on the beliefs you hold. For example, there are plenty of professors who aren’t ready to stop teaching even after they’ve turned 67. Sometimes they’re gently—or forcefully—pushed out of the university, but they can often still find a similar job abroad.
There are also people who do retire because they are convinced that otherwise they will become those irritating old men/women who do not realize they are passé.
To retire with a nice feeling, it is nice to be able to look back on your career and feel that you have made enough of an impact in other people's lives. This can range from laying the road that people still drive on every day today to developing medications that save lives. Ultimately people work to help each other with one thing or another, by considering how your work has impacted other people you can look back with a good feeling.
A hypnotherapist can help you retire feeling good. For example, by repeating hypnotic suggestions that strengthen your beliefs that your work has been good. You can then repeat these during self-hypnosis.
These can include beliefs such as:
"I've done a lot in my career."
"Dozens/hundreds/thousands of people have benefited from what I've done," he says.
"The next generation may pick up the work now," says Dr. K. K., who is a member of the community.
These are just examples. Depending on your beliefs about your work, you can get other beliefs from a hypnotist to practice at home to enjoy retirement.
Continuing to work after retirement
However, there are also an increasing number of people who continue to work part-time after reaching retirement. This can happen, for example, if you cannot look back on your career with a good feeling and if you were thus forced to retire.
In doing so, people who just become unhappy or stressed from retirement can decide to keep working.
Men are also more likely to continue working than women, this may be because men traditionally provide the income. Not being able to properly let go of these role patterns can lead to you actually not taking your break.
However, sometimes you can’t continue working in the job you currently have. In that case, it’s important to explore what other work opportunities are available to you. Volunteering, for example, is something you can do even after you retire. You can also scale back and find a part-time job.
If you find it difficult to do this, for example because your old job made you feel unwelcome and this has damaged your self-confidence, hypnosis can also help with this. A socratic conversation then helps, for example, to identify the belief why you think you cannot continue working when you want to continue working.
During this conversation, the why question is repeated several times to find out what influence your employer has had on this and why it makes no sense at all, given the state of your earnings. This alone can make it easier to continue nicely beyond age 67 if that's something you want to do.
Saying goodbye to your colleagues
Are you nervous about saying goodbye to your coworkers? Are you afraid you’ll get completely emotional and make a fool of yourself? A hypnotherapist can help you stay calm during the moment you say goodbye.
This starts before the goodbye, because the hypnotist will not be there. By visualizing how you are saying goodbye, you can already get acquainted with the reaction your body gives to this moment, and during this visualization, the hypnotist can help you stay calm if you become emotional.
A visualization can take the following form:
"It's the last day before retirement. You know you can take it nice and easy on this day. Colleagues come to you and make jolly jokes about sleeping in and traveling around in a chicken caravan. You laugh merrily along and enjoy these last moments at work. You relax wonderfully on this day and keep your attention in the here and now. This keeps you calm and allows you to respond cheerfully. When you go home you thank your colleagues for a fun collaboration and that was that."
This is just an example of a guided visualization. Depending on your feelings about your work, the hypnotist may give you a different visualization.
Being healthy during retirement
Precisely because retirement is such a major life event, it’s a good time to make changes if you need to improve your health. In fact, many people who retire suddenly become even less active than they already were. At the same time, computer use actually increases.
While it is precisely for a long and healthy life that daily exercise is important.
Finding it difficult to implement a new schedule with more rest and moderate exercise (such as a walk)? Then too, a hypnotist can help you with your beliefs about health and old age.
How often do you come across older people who only complain about how badly they're doing and how everything is going to hurt, when in fact they really aren't taking good care of themselves. Through self-hypnosis, you can change your beliefs such that you automatically start walking or biking for 30 minutes every day and shift your focus to what you can do, rather than what you can no longer do.
Essence retirement and happiness
Being happy during retirement is very important. Nothing is more annoying than looking back on a career full of regrets and negative feelings. It is also important to look to the future during retirement. To enjoy your children or grandchildren if you have them and to take some time to observe the world as it is. You will be surprised what beautiful things you can still discover.
Being happy during retirement can be achieved by doing what you enjoy. Nice exercise, fun trips or excursions, a hobby you can occupy yourself with for hours. As long as it's what you enjoy. In any case, the days of having to do things are over, and that can be quite a relief.
Also, don't feel obligated to become a babysitter for your grandchildren. You can, of course, if this is really something that makes you happy, but choose for yourself. You already have years behind you in which you have done your bit for society.
