Reaching the top: burn your boat

Some time ago, I was helping an elite athlete in Germany. I was at his workplace and thought to myself, "I couldn't have imagined this when I started this." Later it did occur to me that this could be done, and if you keep at it long enough it becomes a reality. Somewhere, in fact, I reached a summit. Reaching the top is not always obvious, so here I will go into a little more detail. In this blog you can read more about reaching the top in your field or in your life

Just a little story to start with. There are two monks on a journey and along the way they come to a river. They have to cross it. There is no bridge, there is no boat, but they have to cross the river. The river cannot be crossed by swimming. So they gather wood and after a very long time, months or years, they have built a boat with which they cross the river.

So they've come up with a solution to their problem. That solution is the boat.

Then they cross the river, to the other side. Then they enter a forest and that goes over to the mountain. That boat goes with them. Then one monk says to the other: "Why are you still taking that boat?" And the answer is, "Maybe I'll need it later."

As you can imagine, the guy can take the boat up the mountain with him, but this does make it tougher and then he is completely burned out.

You see this happening a lot to people as well.

What used to be a very good solution to a problem, such as having to perform a lot for attention, for the idea that you will be good, that you will get love or that you will have prestige (if your problem is that you don't).

The interesting thing is that you then indeed get higher grades for your studies, you have a top job and a nice house. Actually, you have then reached a kind of summit.

And you keep going, because you still need to perform. But do you? Because you may have already achieved what you wanted, what you dreamed of, and then you burn out.

You fall down because you built the boat, but the river is long gone. You're even walking on a mountain already. And then you're at the top and you look at the valley and all you see are mountains. That river is long gone.

When you burn that boat it releases so much energy that you are missing right now. What you need right now. If you feel burned out, you may be carrying that kind of boat with you. When you burn it up, it gives you energy and you can go on.

Then, when you've climbed those mountains all the way up, you may find yourself with another solution that you no longer need, such as climbing gear. You then have to let go of those, too, and then move on.

So it keeps repeating itself often.

But many people who ask for my help are still walking the boat and are not yet at the level of climbing gear.

That top athlete had also reached a summit. He had achieved everything he wanted as a young boy. He had even achieved that for years. For a long time he had been a top athlete and could make a living from it.

But what next? He just had to keep performing and going. That drive is good, up to a point. At some point it's going to burn you out.

I helped him burn that boat, that performance drive.

There again, I made a dream come true. So that's how you can help each other achieve dreams, even if you've already achieved your dreams.

When you look at your own life, what boat are you still towing that you should be burning?

Maybe it's harder work, because then your mother says she's proud of you.

It can be anything.

When you look at yourself, what beliefs, rules or boat can you give up?

Then you have to burn that boat. There are many different ways to do that. My favorite way, of course, is hypnosis. One session and that boat is burned.

This succeeded with the top athlete as well.

But I also understand that many people don't understand how, but the most important thing is what is the main boat you want to burn right now. Often you then take away all the little things you want to get rid of as well.

When you know this you write this down. Then you take a look at it and wonder how you actually mean this. What exactly do I mean? Is this still true? Is this relevant? You then start questioning that belief.

Even without debt. How do I get to this? So not of that it's your parents' or your environment's fault, but simply how do I get to this? Out of curiosity. How do I do it?

You may have been told, but is this still true? When you look around at what you've accomplished and the people who love you, does it still make sense? What exactly do you feel? What is that?

The more questions you have to think through, the more curious you can look at it and the more attention you give it,. If you do this for 30 minutes, the chances of changing it are pretty good. Then watch yourself for a moment as if you were someone else and as if you were very curious about it.

Then you can burn the boat and reach the top with energy.

Positivity to reach the top

Such a boat often feels somehow like negativity. Positivity is also important to reach the top. For example, are you working in some kind of community where you want to make a difference?

Then positivity and contributing positive influence to people in that community is important to reach the top.

In addition, it can also be helpful to gather people around you to ask for advice[1].

In the process, positive thinking can also be helpful. For example, if you feel that you are often lucky, rather than unlucky, this can help you take a risk more often and therefore still have a better chance of getting a top position in, say, business. Feeling lucky also helps you improve your motivation to put something down.

The great thing is that having happiness or bad luck is also a result of how you look at life. This is something you can influence with hypnosis.

Men are more likely to feel that they are lucky and this may also explain why men are more likely to reach the top than women, even in societies where men and women have equal positions[2].

Reaching the top with hypnosis

Now, of course, I have hinted several times that hypnosis can help you reach your peak. It doesn't matter if this is the top in your business life or the top in your personal life.

For example, hypnosis can install "memories of the future" in you. In that case, you already know what it feels like to achieve your success, and that can help you in the journey toward it. In addition, a kind of active form of hypnosis can cause you to get into the flow state. This helps you enjoy being on the go while working and achieving your goals[3].

This achievement of the flow state is not only useful for getting to the top at work. Athletes also benefit greatly from it. For example, two techniques can be used to achieve the flow state more easily, namely regression or future progression (the memory of the future).

The latter technique in particular not only improved flow state in golfers, it also improved performance[4].

In tougher professions, such as that of a doctor, hypnosis can also be used to reduce the heaviness of work and to recharge when you do need to keep going for a while[5].

So getting to the top can be done by examining for yourself what mental baggage you are carrying around that once worked for you, but is now standing in your way. You can do this by examining yourself. Consider yourself your best friend and ask yourself why you do what you do, as explained in the blog. This can already make a big difference, allowing you to reach your peak with more energy.

In addition, hypnosis can help you. For example, having a clear vision of the future can help you be intrinsically motivated to do what it takes to reach the top. In addition, regression can also help you get into the flow state.
