Paranormal children: it can stay and it can go away

When my oldest son was about three we sometimes played "Who is it?" That's that game where you have all these little pictures of people and you have to use questions to figure out who the person across from you is on a card

He asked not the standard questions at that game, but very distinct ones such as: "Does he have blushes high up on his cheeks?". At one point I noticed that he was actually just describing my picture.

I found this very interesting. How did he do it?

I thought, "He's somehow looking through my eyes or something." To check this, I put the card upside down. Then he did start asking other questions unrelated to my ticket, but I could also see that he was getting a little confused.

When I picked up the card he relaxed again and started asking those strange questions again anyway.

This "seeing through my eyes," or whatever it was, he could do until he went to school.

At one point, he couldn't see it anymore. That was fascinating, how quickly that changed.

Your brain also does pruning. Your brain is full of connections, and from ages 0 to 12, your brain is just cleaning up connections. It also does make new connections, but mostly deleting connections that are not useful.

Lots of qualities and gifts that you might think of as paranormal are taken away because they are not as important as cutting, folding and coloring.

Of course, at school you receive a lot of information—more than just “schoolwork.” There are all these new people, a new environment, and a new social map of the area. Your brain needs to make room for all of that, because it’s important.

Things that are less important that are pruned, that are discarded.

So seeing something through your father's eyes is not important enough then. This is true for about up to 12 years. After that, it becomes more stable.

That's why you often see little kids seeing or doing things that we (adults) can't. We should be able to teach it again if we ever could, but it's a lot harder to keep up.

Imagine you can do the split, then it's much easier to keep that up, so you can do the split at 90. If you lose this and you have to relearn it or get the stretch that allows you to do it, it's much harder.

It can be done, of course, but it takes much longer than if you had kept up with this for five minutes every week.

Alone with the brain is even trickier.

This is very interesting, and perhaps you’ve noticed that you sometimes lose a talent or a gift.

The idea that my son could see through my eyes is, on the one hand, really nice, and it goes a bit further than the idea that your children pick up on your energy —how you ’re feeling, so to speak. But it also raises the question of what my child might have seen. Maybe even things I don’t want him to see at all. I don’t know.

But if he can do that, he can probably do even more things.

With little kids, I always think of certain things that will come in handy when they grow up later. The more normal you are about it, the longer it stays.

If you correctly say "it's nothing" or whatever, the brain clears it up.

Later, some abilities can be quite useful, but many children lose them because they are not talked about at home or are told it is nothing.

We have always tried to hold many opportunities with our guys. This has not always succeeded, because yes there is also a lot to learn, but it is interesting.

When I look at my oldest child, he has a very analytical brain. I'm more intuitive. He can see those math jokes very well and never kicks in.

But he's also very spiritual, because that idea is in there as well. I think it's an interesting combination.

If you look in your own life, at your own abilities and at your children. Everything you could, you can still learn.

If you see something in your children and want them to keep it, keep discussing it.

What causes paranormal events in your adult life?

What is also interesting is that children of parents who ignored them or were just very strict are more likely to have psychic abilities in their adult lives than children of parents who, say, did provide a normal upbringing. Also, guidance from parents or someone close to them can cause paranormal children to become paranormal adults.

In many cultures with shamans, the shaman's psychic gifts are passed down from father to son.

In a study of adults with psychic gifts, three statements were examined and confirmed in a group of 644 participants, namely:

  1. There is a correlation between bad events in childhood and more paranormal events in adult life.
  2. There is a correlation between a flexible parenting style and an increased occurrence of paranormal events in adult life.
  3. People who have more frequent paranormal events in their adult lives are more resilient.

All three of these were confirmed in the study[1].

That first one seems illogical, but if your parents mistreat you or are too strict, how much do you take from them for truth? A little strictness can then help clear your brain, but with an overly strict upbringing, it can apparently backfire.

Paranormal events and science

Paranormal phenomena can thus be used as a metaphor in hypnotherapy. In this case, the concept of something paranormal is utilized. Perhaps this will trigger your brain a little to believe in paranormal phenomena again.

Recently, the spiritual world and the scientific world are coming closer and closer together[2]. For there are also more and more people who dare to be open about what they experience. For example, children sometimes have memories of a life that is not theirs and cannot be explained in any other way[3].

I am not the only father who notices things about his small child that are at least separate[4].

Paranormal gifts and hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy is often associated with psychic abilities, but I can tell you there is nothing paranormal about it.

However, some techniques can give you a kind of paranormal feeling. For example, you can use dissociation to solve problems. For example, people who feel disconnected from their bodies, which is also often seen as a paranormal event, can use it to solve problems.

For example, you can then look at yourself from the outside (you do this in your mind, not really) and then do something to solve your problem. You can then use this as a kind of metaphor.

For example, you can visualize how you are cleansing your body of trauma or other problems and then return “into” your cleansed body[5].

Making new connections with hypnosis

So as a child, your brain is cleared of connections that were not used often. You can create new connections again with hypnosis.

This can also be used for very practical problems, such as women against urine leakage. Through hypnotherapy, these again make better connections in the brain, which can solve this problem[6].

In addition, the power of hypnosis can also be used to reduce anxiety. This creates new neural connections in your brain that help you experience fewer anxious feelings and thoughts about your problem[7].
