Improve work-life balance with hypnosis
Work-life balance is actually a separate term to me. Like walking a tightrope to "get work-life balance," when really you just want private to be a bigger part of your life than work.
So in that respect, the "balance" is way off.
The question really is, how do you make sure that your work doesn't cause you to get completely out of balance privately, which can get you into trouble with your relationships, with your partner, children, family and friends?
In this blog article, we take a closer look at what disrupts work-life balance now, what you can do to improve it, and how hypnosis helps.
What is good to know is that it is important to employers that you work 50-50 and have time for your personal life, as this says something about how committed you are to the company. If you also feel good about your work and are committed, this may even cause you to be more long-term employable than usual[1]. You may even continue to work after you are allowed to retire.
If your work-life balance is off, it often causes stress , which in turn causes health problems. Research also shows that people who have poor work-life balance are more likely to have health problems[2].
Influences on your work-life balance.
There are all kinds of factors that affect your feelings of good balance. Negative influences are:
- Irregular working hours
- Unsure of your role
- Roles that conflict
- Insecurity at work
- Workload too high or too low
- Unreasonable compensation (pay too low)
One of the benefits the corona period has given us is that working from home has become more normal and employers are now required to allow it. In fact, working from home does help improve your work-life balance, at least if you don't also have to homeschool your children because of corona. So in normal times it can help, because at least you are already not in traffic jams to get to work.
Also, with working from home, you have to be careful not to work evenings or weekends. Therefore, be strict with yourself to keep a good work-life balance.
In Germany, it is even illegal for an executive to call you after work hours for one thing or another. That's how important this is!
Self-image and work-life balance
Your self-image has a positive effect on your work-life balance.
If you feel that you are good at your work, it is good for your energy and therefore you have a good work-life balance. Your work then does not gobble up all your energy.
Having more control over when you work (such as being able to set your own hours) also helps improve balance(source 1).
If you have colleagues or a manager who support you during stressful times in your life, this also helps you achieve a good work-life balance and, as a result, be happier[3].
So there are many factors that affect your work-life balance. In addition, there is also much you can do yourself to experience a better work-life balance.
Mindfulness for your work-life balance
One way you may notice that your work-life balance is off is that at work you think about home all the time, and when you're at home you think about what you need to do at work.
This is very inconvenient and prevents you from focusing properly on your work or your family.
Training in mindfulness can then do much to help you keep your focus where you are. Focus on your work when you are at work, and focus on your family (or other private matter) when you are at home.
Research shows that this helps prevent conflicts and leads to greater satisfaction with your work-life balance[4].
A hypnotherapist can help people who find this difficult to be more aware of their thoughts and apply mindfulness when needed.
Hypnosis for your work-life balance
And that brings us to hypnosis for your work-life balance. Research shows that hypnotherapy in the workplace helps reduce emotional exhaustion and improve people’s ability to adapt[5].
It helps reduce stress and anxiety, thereby improving your well-being.
How does hypnosis actually do this?
First and foremost, it’s important to know that the hypnotic state itself brings a great deal of relaxation. Relaxation is necessary to enter the hypnotic state. For this reason, a hypnotherapist must always create a safe environment so that a person feels secure enough to relax.
One way this is done is through a comfortable temperature and comfortable chairs or couches on which people can completely relax. Even the neck muscles then no longer need to hold a person's head in the air.
Then a conversation can be had about why there is no good work-life balance right now, for example. Why are you always working overtime? Why are you always thinking about your partner or children when you are at work?
This provides hypnotherapists with tools to address the underlying beliefs that make it difficult for you to find a good balance.
For example, if you find yourself still thinking a lot about your home life while at work, this may be because you’re having trouble prioritizing yourself—especially if your job is something you really enjoy doing.
If you find yourself constantly doing little bits of this and that for work even when you’re at home, you may be having trouble setting professional boundaries. There’s a reason for that, too.
Finding the cause of imbalance
After this "preliminary conversation," a hypnotherapist can help you find the cause of the imbalance. Usually people are then suggested to go back to the first moment when a particular feeling was there, such as the feeling that...
- You can't say "no".
- Your family is the most important thing of all.
- You must always be ready for everyone.
- Work is the most important thing of all.
- Etc. etc.
The suggestion depends on your specific work-life balance issue. You will then undergo a regression.
Most people then come to a memory from childhood. Perhaps homework MUST be completed despite the fact that your sibling's birthday was the next day and you were eager to help with the presents.
Perhaps you were bullied and just let it slide.
It can be anything. It is different for everyone.
Then a hypnotherapist helps you do something with that memory to "fix" the belief, so that you can, for example, set your boundaries at work or in your private life, so that you can choose for yourself, so that you can live your life the way you really want deep down inside.
Changing behavior to restore your balance
That repair, in turn, can consist of other techniques that influence you to change your behavior. This then happens naturally.
If a fearful event has caused the conviction, the Fast-phobia technique can be used.
This technique helps you realize that the situation is over and that your stress response is no longer necessary to overcome certain problems. Instead, you can respond calmly and communicate more in line with your own needs to achieve what you want to accomplish.
Is the problem more relationship-based? Then a “social panorama, ” or a conversation between your “inner child” and the other person, can help resolve the issue.
You then ensure that people get the right position in your life. If people are too close to you, you move them further away.
If you haven't yet expressed something between you and your parents or other family members, you can do so in a visualization in your mind. Even if that person has already passed away.
The technique then still works.
After all, for processing certain feelings, it doesn't matter whether you actually discuss something with the other person, or whether you do it in your mind. And especially with the guidance of a hypnotherapist, you make sure you get everything you need out of it.
As a matter of course, your behavior will then change, making it easier for you to keep your work-life balance in check and in order.
