Finding inner peace within yourself: 7 magical tips
Inner peace is a state that almost everyone wants to achieve. A state in which you can maintain composure and remain calm despite turbulent circumstances.
Perhaps you’re familiar with the feeling of your thoughts and feelings going in all directions. Something has happened, and you can’t stop thinking about how you should have handled it. Or you’re constantly worrying about the future and where everything is headed.
Result: A mind full of thoughts and a body full of tension.
That's not nice at all!
Inner peace creates both a calm head and a calm body, which is only healthier for you.
In this article, get 7 magical tips to find peace within yourself and find out how hypnosis helps.
What is inner peace?
Inner peace is about being able to stay calm and have peaceful thoughts. You’re not ruminating or worrying. You don’t have tension in your body caused by stress.
Reaching this state depends on a number of factors, namely:
- Emotional Stability
- Mental clarity
- Physical relaxation
- Spiritual Sense
- Balance in life
This already gives some clues on how to achieve and find inner peace.
Tip #1: Where can you find inner peace?
"Where" can refer to places outside yourself, such as your home, garden or the forest, or places inside yourself. Such as in your head or your body and even more conceptually, your beliefs, conscious and subconscious beliefs.
If you look outside yourself, there are some places where you can become calm. Which will help you find inner peace at least temporarily.
Getting out into nature, for example, is a good way to seek peace—at least externally—and that can go a long way toward achieving inner peace[1]. You could go for a walk in the woods, for instance, but even gardening can make a big difference.
Tip 2: Find peace within yourself: mindfulness
Researchers do point out, however, that an extra step is actually needed to find inner peace in nature. You also need to practice mindfulness. This means keeping your attention focused on the here and now while you’re out in nature. It also helps you feel more connected to nature, and researchers believe it is particularly beneficial for people who live in urban environments[2].
One of the things you do when practicing mindfulness outdoors is consciously enjoying nature. This helps you experience greater feelings of happiness. Especially for people who practice mindfulness after work, it helps them feel happier[3]. This helps you recover emotionally from a tough day and experience more balance in your life.
Tip 3: Breathwork for inner peace
Not only does spending time in nature help gain inner peace. Breathwork can also contribute to inner peace in several ways. In fact, breath work helps physical relaxation, spiritual sense of purpose, mental clarity and emotional stability, because breath work allows you to gain more clarity about your emotions and feelings and gain more insight into yourself[4].
There are several ways in which breathing exercises can contribute to this. These include box breathing, holotropic breathing, progressive relaxation, and breathwork, which can be combined with yoga[5].
Tip 4: Journaling to gain mental clarity
When your mind is racing, your thoughts go in all directions. Memories, dreams, fears —everything follows one after another at a rapid pace. So how do you calm your mind again?
One way to gain mental clarity is by journaling. Keeping a journal of sorts. It's a form of self-care that makes you more aware of what you're working on, gets more clarity in your thoughts and therefore makes it easier to let go of thoughts. Thoughts go from your head to paper.
This also helps you grow personally and allows you to reflect deeply[6].
Tip 5: Gratitude for physical and mental rest'
While you’re journaling anyway, you might as well write down everything you’re grateful for. Research shows that people who regularly reflect on what they’re grateful for have lower blood pressure and heart rates[7]. So it actually helps you feel calmer physically as well.
This also improves your resilience and can even prevent burnout. It also helps you feel good and can even improve your motivation [8].
Tip #6: Get rid of negative influences
Sometimes there are those people, or things you do, that aren't helpful at all. Like reading the news all day. Arguing with people on X/Twitter all day.
Or mandatory daily calls to family members who actually just make you feel bad.
This often only creates more inner turmoil. You start worrying about where the world is going or you feel unloved because your family is acting so strangely.
In that case, it’s important to set and maintain your own boundaries.
- Remove X/Twitter from your phone.
- Only watch the news at night anymore, but at least don't start the day with it.
- State your boundaries with people who cost you energy.
Call them less often, or hang up sooner when you notice the conversation is going in the wrong direction.
Hypnosis can also play a role in assertiveness training. With hypnotherapy, for example, you can improve your self-esteem . Visualize how you set and maintain your boundaries, because then you’ve already practiced it and will find it easier to do in real life. You can also use visualizations to change your self-image, so that you find it more natural to set and maintain your boundaries[9].
In this process, regression often plays a role in determining when the problem of allowing negative influences arose and in correcting limiting beliefs[10].
In this way, you will become very good at guarding your boundaries and removing negative influences.
Now you may have the problem that when you have removed all negative influences from your life, you are left with very little. That may also say something about your mindset. Your mindset can also help you achieve inner peace.
Tip 7: A positive mindset
Another thing that helps foster inner peace is having confidence in the future and in yourself. This simply means having a positive mindset.
When you have a positive mindset, you automatically have more positive thoughts, which contributes to inner peace[11].
However, if you tend to be somewhat pessimistic or think negatively, it’s not always as easy as 1-2-3 to shift to a positive mindset.
After all, how positive you are also depends on factors such as your beliefs about the world and how you are supposed to function in it. The opportunities you believe you have in life.
In this case, hypnotherapy can play a role in helping people gain a positive mindset. With hypnotherapy, you can be made aware of your inner resources. At Hypnosis Institute Netherlands, we also always say that you already have everything within you to solve your problems.
In addition, suggestions from positive psychology can also be applied during hypnotherapy. This can be very helpful in strengthening your inner strength—which is also useful for inner peace—and in evoking positive emotions[12].
Ericksonian hypnotherapy and ego-state hypnotherapy also help people develop a more positive mindset—even if they’ve had a traumatic childhood [13].
As with removing negative influences, regression can also be used in improving mindset to find out why you have become pessimistic.
Helping people find inner peace
All of these tips will go a long way to finding inner peace, but you can also help people find inner peace as a hypnotherapist.
It's super to see the transformation in people when they make the click during a regression and you see the calmness come over them. You literally see the tension disappear from the body.
I wish you the same.
