Zone of Genius
Yesterday I went to the movies by myself. Lovely once in a while. Especially when it's in the morning because there are very few people in the cinema then.
There I saw the very impressive movie: 'Bohemian Rhapsody'.
Several insights I gleaned from them but two very important ones I want to share with you.
1. I want a private cinema
Live in your zone of genius 2.
First, the first one, because it may sound a bit separate. The movie was 135 minutes long I saw and I think I seriously spent at least half of it crying. And not a small tear, no, real sobbing and gasping. I don't remember crying like that.
Yummy, only I still held back. I mean the whole back row of chairs shook and also I kept in mind those few people. If I had been by myself I think I would have whined out all my old pain. So my first insight was, "Ed, move out and buy a big house with private cinema. That's how you learn.
The second insight was, that when you live in your "zone of genius" that is when you truly are fully who you are meant to be. What you were born for.
Freddy said very nicely in the film: 'When I'm on stage and I have people's attention and they're listening, I can't even sing out of tune. I just can't even though I would try. I am then exactly the person I was born to be. A performer who shows a piece of heaven to the people...'
And hoppa was I whining again.
Because that's the man. You have different zones.
- Zone of incompetence (you just can't do this)
- Zone of competence (you can do this but others can do it much better)
- Zone of excellence (you can do this very well, better than many others)
- Zone of Genius (this is where you are at your best and belong to the 1%)
Most people are either in their "zone of competence" or "excellence. Freddy's zone of excellence was making and producing music. Very good he was at that, but when he was on stage he was in his Zone of Genius. Then another dimension was added.
You have too. There are times when you are in that "Zone of Genius. That zone where you belong to the 1%. To get from excellence to genius, I think, is one of the most important things in life.
If you can spend the most time in your zone of genius then you will also become the most happy.
Do you know your "Zone of Genius?
