World full of danger: how to make it beautiful again?

The world is beautiful, but that is not always obvious. Often we also find the world exciting, scary and violent. If you feel dissatisfaction it may be because of how you view the world. A world full of danger is obviously not calming

But sometimes it is more convenient to see the world as meaningless. This can help free you from seeing the world as not fun, and that helps you see that the world is beautiful.

You see the world in multiple ways

Why is the world full of danger? Or beautiful or ugly? You see the world in multiple ways. When you are in a room you actually see things and in addition you can see things in your mind.

When I talk about a tomato, you immediately picture a tomato in your mind's eye. You know what that tomato looks like. Even if you actually hold a tomato in your hands, you can imagine what the tomato looks like on the backside, the side you don't see[1].

So it is with other things of the world. You can imagine what the world looks like.

When I talk about Africa, you're probably imagining something too. Depending on the experiences you have with Africa, it could be something beautiful or something ugly. But that's how you see Africa. Whether this is true is another question entirely.

How you see the world also often depends on your beliefs about how the world is and how you can function in it. For example, if you see yourself as someone who can defend yourself, a world full of danger need not be a problem for you, but if you don't see yourself as someone who can defend yourself well, a world full of danger is obviously a lot more exciting.

These beliefs often originate in your childhood. This is the period of your life when you discover where boundaries of right and wrong lie, how people generally behave and what the "rules" are about how everything works. You can also call this a worldview[2].

Personal factors and social factors specific to your life create your personal worldview[3]. Everyone sees the world differently from another to a greater or lesser extent. This is because everyone has their own experiences. Even within a family, this is the case. You may have different hobbies than your siblings, you may not be in class together, and because of this you may have very different experiences. As a result, you may come to different conclusions about how the world works.

Not knowing how to make your world beautiful

Those conclusions can sometimes become so problematic that you feel like you' re stuck. You no longer know what to do to get certain things done, and as a result, you may suffer from anxiety and other mental problems.

A major problem for people with mental problems is that they no longer know how to function in the world. They can no longer see or find their way to their goals.

From counselors, they actually want to get a kind of map with the route to their destination[4]. A route to where you can say the world is beautiful.

Your distortion of the world

If you don't like the world, it's often because you distort it. Did you not like Africa? If so, it is often because you distort that the world is cruel and frightening.

Exercise:

To be able to see the world neutrally, meaning neither beautiful nor ugly, do the following exercise.

You do this exercise with your eyes open. You look at things around you, such as a box, plant, cabinet and other objects.

You do this quietly.

As you look around say to yourself:

"I think I see a ... world."

On those dots you can then say, for example:

  • hazard
  • hostile
  • sad
  • crazy

Whatever comes to mind, you say. It may also be that you say:

  • a loving world
  • a peaceful world
  • a fun world

You may also say those things while looking around you. Those statements are then positively charged.

A good or fun world also presupposes a bad world or a not fun world.

So anything is appropriate and their apparent quality doesn't matter.

Do this for about a minute. At the end of that minute say to yourself:

"But I feel dissatisfaction, because I see a meaningless world," he said.

Something that has no meaning is neither good nor bad. If you can accept this, it can make you indescribably happy. But what we often do with something that has no meaning is stick a meaning on it anyway, and you end up doing that yourself.

If you can let go of that meaning, it can feel very liberating.

Do this three or four times and for no more than a minute in a day. And stop the exercise if you experience tension.

Making the world more harmless with hypnosis

Of course there is danger in the world, but if you see the world as "full of danger" it can cause problems, such as fear of going to the store.

That's not at all convenient.

If you run into these kinds of problems, a hypnotherapist can help you make the world harmless again. Hypnosis can also help you feel safer[5].

But how does that work in practice? There are an awful lot of hypnosis techniques you can use to help people with their problems. When you believe in a world full of danger, it is difficult to pick out a specific fear and go deeper into it.

Therefore, you can also go back to the first moment when you felt that the world is full of danger. This is often something you do with regression. You then while in hypnosis go back in your mind to the first moment when you got that feeling.

Next, you will do something with that moment so you can give it meaning again. By revisiting it with your current knowledge and perhaps changing it with a little imagination, you can more easily release the belief that the world is full of danger.

You can also get suggestions on how to feel safe in the world. Which suggestions you get depends on why you think the world is full of danger. These may include suggestions such as:

"There are always people there to help," he says.

"The world is full of love."

"The world is what I make of it."

These are just examples. Depending on your beliefs, a hypnotherapist may give you a different suggestion. You can also repeat those suggestions at home as you apply self-hypnosis.

Self-hypnosis to feel safer

So with self-hypnosis, you can repeat suggestions, but sometimes it helps to feel more secure to visualize something. Often what people say is something that makes you feel more unsafe.

You can then visualize, for example, how those statements don't affect you. They fly past you, so to speak, or you have an invisible shield on which the statements bounce off.

These types of visualizations help you not be upset by unsafe statements made by others.

Another visualization that helps is to visualize a place where you feel completely amazing. You feel safe and relaxed there. You can visualize that place and relax there for a while. This can also do a lot to make you feel better in general.

For self-hypnosis, you can also get an mp3 with your hypnotherapist to help you visualize a safe place, for example.
