Do you get out of hypnosis when you go into hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a state of consciousness that is uncharted territory for many people. So it is natural for people considering hypnosis to have some questions about its safety. For example, you may wonder if you can come out of hypnosis again when you have been hypnotized. It seems like a real nightmare to be stuck in hypnosis forever, and could that be possible?

Will you come out of hypnosis when you go into it?

Staying in hypnosis forever, is it possible? Fortunately, that's just a myth. In this article I will explain to you why it is impossible to be "trapped" in hypnosis. In other words, you don't have to worry at all because hypnosis can be ended at any time.

To understand why coming out of hypnosis is no problem at all, you must first have a good understanding of what hypnosis is exactly. Hypnosis is a magical state in which, however, you never surrender complete control of your body and mind to a hypnotherapist, for then it would indeed be quite scary. That then has nothing to do with magic anymore, of course. Rather, imagine the hypnotherapist as a guide who can lead you around your own subconscious.

He can show you things you would never discover without his help, and in this way you can solve some fundamental problems you are struggling with. However, at no time do you lose complete control of your own mind. In fact, that can never happen.

It does happen that people are in such a deep state during a hypnosis session that they want the hypnosis to last for a long time. However, if the therapist decides that the session is over because the desired goal for today has been achieved, then an external signal can bring you out of hypnosis without difficulty.

Often the hypnotherapist will simply suggest that it is time to come out of hypnosis and break the hypnosis. He can do this by a simple command. After all, when you are under hypnosis, you are very sensitive to outside stimulation: when the therapist suggests coming out of hypnosis, you will also come out of hypnosis, and consequently you will come out of hypnosis. It is as simple as that.

Can you also suddenly come out of hypnosis?

You may also find that an external stimulus suddenly brings you out of hypnosis. It may be a loud noise or bright light. This is often when you come out of hypnosis a little less pleasant, so it is recommended that you conduct the hypnosis session in a room free of such stimuli. When you are with a skilled hypnotherapist, he or she will of course put you into hypnosis so well that noises or light are also no problem at all.

At no point, however, is there any danger of being unable to get out of hypnosis.

So you have nothing to worry about. Coming out of hypnosis is one of the simplest things there is. Often it is enough for the hypnotherapist to count you out of hypnosis. If you want to try self-hypnosis (i.e., without a therapist to bring you out of hypnosis), it might be helpful to set an alarm clock so that the hypnosis doesn't take longer than you had planned, because although it is always possible to come out of hypnosis, you may lose track of time during hypnosis.
