Does hypnosis really work that well or is it just fake?

The question of whether hypnosis is real or fake is guaranteed to come up during a conversation about hypnosis. Many people are still under the impression that hypnosis is some kind of magic trick or -at best- an illusion. In fact, you can't blame those people, because the image you're shown of hypnosis is often very caricatured and just plain wrong, but is it really true?

Does hypnosis really work?

Well at least it's not a trick. Indeed, in recent years, several clinical and scientific studies have shown that hypnosis works. As such, hypnosis has become a respected and widely used method to guide and heal patients with mental or psychological problems.

Hypnotherapy works extremely well in curing ailments that almost everyone faces at one time or another such as stress and insecurity, but very specific problems such as insomnia or quitting smoking can also be cured and unlearned through hypnosis.

If it is difficult for you to imagine that hypnosis really works, it may be because you simply have the wrong idea about hypnosis. Hypnosis works, but it is not a magic cure that will solve all your problems in one two-three. If you want to decide for yourself whether hypnosis works or not, it is important that you first have a good understanding of the principles of hypnosis. A good way is to attend a hypnosis playshop, for example.

So how does hypnosis work?

Hypnosis works according to a set of well-defined rules, just like other therapeutic techniques. First, he is put into a state of hypnosis by the therapist (or by himself, in the case of self-hypnosis). In this hypnotic state, the patient's subconscious mind is accessible for influence. By using various techniques, the therapist will direct this influence in the right direction.

This hypnosis state is difficult to understand for people who have never undergone hypnosis. In fact, it is a state in which your brain descends into deeper subconsciousness than in your daily activities.

You can compare it to the state your mind is in just before you fall asleep: you're not completely "gone" yet but your brain makes associations much easier and seems to work in a completely different way than when you're wide awake.

It is in this state that you are very susceptible to outside suggestions, as your brain is by no means inactive at that time. You can look at it as if you were removing all daily preoccupations from your mind, making room for really important matters.

This way, after a few sessions, the hypnotherapist can make changes in your subconscious that will cause you to feel more confident or less stressed. Of course, the best way to find out if hypnosis works is still to just try it out. Find a hypnotherapist and make an appointment.

It is important, however, that you begin hypnosis sessions with an open mind, that is, without preconceived notions about whether hypnosis works or not. Also remember that there are some people who are more difficult to hypnotize than others. When you have done the masterpractitioner then you will be able to hypnotize even those people just fine.

The key to success

In hypnosis, you can change your unconscious automatic programs and find the key you may have been looking for for a long time. Today in the playshop, some people also found the key to their long-standing problem. So interesting to see how a single situation can have such a long-term effect.

Check out this video of hypnosis trainer Nico Jacobs what the effect can be for someone with anxiety.

It's the best work there is :-)
