Out of your comfort zone with hypnosis and other tips
Is everything running its course and you feel very comfortable? Then chances are you're generally working nicely in your comfort zone. Yet you may also feel that your comfort zone is actually too small. You may feel a need for more, but the stress of getting out of your comfort zone may be too great to actually step outside of it. In this blog I discuss your comfort zone and how to get out of your comfort zone with hypnosis and other tips
What is your comfort zone?
Your comfort zone is a mental space where you feel comfortable and at ease. The zone can also be more physical; for example, most people feel more comfortable closer to home than in a strange city.
Mentally, your comfort zone is, for example, that you feel most comfortable doing work you have been doing for years and would rather not be given new tasks because you feel you have not mastered that knowledge sufficiently. This then feels like a risk that gives you a stomach ache and what you would rather not do.
Even when it comes to hobbies, you may sometimes need to step out of your comfort zone.
Another example of your comfort zone is the people you spend time with. By spending time mainly with the same people, you know what to expect, and since you already know each other inside and out, you don’t have to do anything else. Stepping out of your comfort zone could mean, for example, going on dates if you’re single, or looking for friends with whom you can do things your current friends can’t help you with.
Your work, activities, and friends can all be part of your comfort zone. By doing something new there—even if you’re not sure you’ll succeed—you step out of your comfort zone. This is because it triggers feelings of fear and possibly other emotions, which you can then overcome. Your beliefs about the risks associated with an activity determine what your comfort zone is—the zone where you experience personal growth—and what the “panic” zone is[1].
Why do you want to get out of your comfort zone
By overcoming fear and other strong emotions, you’ll experience personal growth. It’s important, however, not to step too far out of your comfort zone all at once, because that can trigger panic. So, for personal growth, it’s important to move from your comfort zone to your growth zone.
By stepping out of your comfort zone, you will discover that you can do more than you thought and that taking risks is not at all scary. Even when things don't go well, because you also find out that your life just goes on when something fails for once.
In short, stepping out of your comfort zone leads to more courage, greater self-confidence, less fear of failure, new relationships, more skills, and more positive emotions in your life.
Get out of your comfort zone with hypnosis
Hypnosis can be a very good tool for getting out of your comfort zone. Initially, the hypnotic state is already a form of getting out of your comfort zone because it is not something you do every day.
In the process, there are also many opinions about hypnosis that are incorrect. For example, many people think you lose control when you are under hypnosis, but that is not the case. However, hypnosis is a different state than you are normally in. This can also be seen on MRIs. These show that your brain activity is different when you are under hypnosis than when you are "normal."
By going under hypnosis once, you are already doing something, this is also because hypnosis is a unique experience for each person.
If you are then in hypnosis, there are several techniques that help you step out of your comfort zone.
Pulverizing blocking beliefs
Once you are then in hypnosis, you are also more susceptible to changing your beliefs and the therapeutic techniques being applied to you. A belief that blocks you from doing something right, but outside your comfort zone, can be pulverized by such a technique.
A good technique for removing limiting beliefs is to use regression. With regression, you go back to the very first moment when you felt that it was better to stay within your comfort zone for a certain activity—and, above all, that it was better not to do it. This may have become a pattern in your life, and you uncover that pattern through regression. By going back to the first time this happened, you can process that moment with your current knowledge and shatter that limiting belief, so it no longer holds you back in the future.
By breaking the pattern in your subconscious, you also break the behavior that goes with the pattern. This can even make your comfort zone a lot bigger in 1 go.
Empowering beliefs
You can reinforce beliefs that actually encourage you to step out of your comfort zone and take a little more risk. In hypnosis, repeating suggestions helps you absorb them more effectively into your subconscious. For example, the hypnotist may instruct you to repeat certain beliefs, such as:
"It's safe to fail."
"It's fun to get out of your comfort zone."
"Doing something is a little different than trying something."
"2 percent different is already different."
"I get to rely on myself."
"Doing something exciting gives you more guts," says Dr. K. K., who is a member of the community.
"I can do anything."
These are just examples of hypnotic suggestions. Depending on your blocks and beliefs, you may receive other suggestions from your hypnotist.
Visualize getting out of your comfort zone
In addition to repeating hypnotic suggestions and removing blocking beliefs through regression, you can also visualize your desired behavior outside the comfort zone. During such visualization, you can make use of the senses you are comfortable with in order to associate positive feelings with taking steps outside your comfort zone.
For example, you can visualize how you will implement the following practical tips.
Other tips for getting out of the comfort zone
Hypnosis helps you remove beliefs that block you from taking a step outside your comfort zone, but what steps can you start with to make your comfort zone bigger? What steps can you take to make greater personal growth?
Tip #1: Do what you always do in a different way
You may start small by doing what you always do in a different way to see what effect it has. For example, you can do your work in a different order. Start the day with what you normally end with. Save your mail until your lunch break instead of starting your day with the mail. Take a half-hour walk in the morning before work instead of in the evening after work.
Tip 2: Do something you've never done before but would like to do
It doesn't matter if this is a business activity or something you want to do in your personal life. Pick something that has always seemed fun for you to do but for which you always had an excuse not to do and do it!
Take that road trip. Join that workshop. Start your own vlog (even if you only make 1). This will help you get out of your activity comfort zone.
Tip 3: Volunteer
By volunteering somewhere, you’ll meet all kinds of people. This can help you step out of your social comfort zone and have a positive impact on others. As a result, you’ll develop positive associations with getting to know and helping people.
Tip 4: Learn a new skill
By learning something new that you find difficult and that you fear you might not master, you experience personal growth and can showcase your talent to more people. In doing so, you increase your personal value because you can help other people with that new skill.
This is something that will help you step out of your comfort zone at work.
These are just a few tips for getting out of your comfort zone. The most important thing is to remove beliefs that block you. You can do this by implementing the tips, and if that is still a little too much to ask, you can do it with the help of hypnosis.
Want to know exactly how hypnosis works and feels? Then come to the hypnosis workshop, where you’ll learn how to hypnotize people and will be hypnotized yourself (if you’d like), or sign up right away for a course at the Hypnosis Institute of the Netherlands so you can learn the techniques to help yourself and others. Ask about the online options if that suits you better.
