The Mayan calendar predicts the end of the world?
The Mayans had some 17 calendars and all calendars seem to end on Dec. 21, 2012. Some people then believe the world will end and others believe it is the beginning of a new age. Of all those calendars, one maya calendar is quite interesting, the Tzolkin.
Mayan Calendar
When people talk about the Mayan calendar they are actually talking about the Tzolkin, the 260-day calendar. Another Mayan calendar is the 13-moon calendar which consists of 13 x 28 days, which is 364 days. The Maya also had a day outside of time and it is on July 25. July 26 is the beginning of the new year again. At least nice weather ;-)
They obviously celebrated the New Year on July 26 not because the weather was so nice, but because that's when Sirius is in the sky and you can see that star. Sirius, the dog star appears only during that period and can be seen everywhere on July 26. A benchmark of the cosmos.
Our calendar was conceived by Julius Caesar, who wanted to divide everything neatly by 12. Of course, you don't really come out right that way, which is why we also have different days per month. July has 31 days because that is what Julius Caesar wanted. After Caesar was murdered, Emperor Augustus came to power and you understand what happened then. Julius 31 days, I also 31 days, thought Augustus.
The word calendar comes from the Latin word "Calends" meaning cash book and was primarily intended to collect taxes on time. And it still does that just fine ;-)
The Tzolkin
Another maya calendar is the Tzolkin and it consists of 260 days. These are made up of 20 seals and 13 tones. So each seal can consist of 13 tones. Our astrology consists of 12 constellations with of course all kinds of differences in them. With the Maya it consists of 20 seals that can have different tones. So there are 260 possibilities.
When that maya calendar turns you have to imagine that it is a cycle, recurring every 260 days, about the time of a pregnancy. So the unborn child goes through a whole cycle before it is even born.
If you lay that calendar on the annual calendar, it is interesting to note that after 52 years, everything starts all over again. The seal and tone on which you are born is the same when you turn 52. You have then completed a complete cycle. The mayas had a whole mathematical calendar and could predict solar eclipses 400 years in advance. We can only do that now, although the weathermen are still often wrong....
Some numbers that are interesting from the maya calendar though:
13 moons of 28 days = 364 days
52 weeks of 7 days = 364 days
13 tones and 20 stamps = 260 days (26 is half of 52)
The mayas also had a long-time calendar of 5,200 years that occurred 5 times (26,000 years) and if you look at the ice ages they correspond to those cycles of time. Very interesting.
End of time?
But yes, all those calendars expire on December 21, 2012, and what happens then. Of course, I don't know, but I personally think that's when we as human beings will become more aware of what we are doing. To me, the point is that everybody finds out that something is going on right now. And that something is a change in consciousness.
Of course I don't know how it reveals itself in you, but in me it reveals itself in higher sensitivity, being more intuitive, being more clairvoyant, being able to foresee things and some other things that are slowly developing. We all have so many talents with us that we can't do anything with yet, but I believe that is going to change. How do you see that?
