Hypnosis for fear of flying, is it effective?
Hypnosis is a state of consciousness indicated where the client is deeply relaxed and fully focused. All hypnosis is basically self-hypnosis, but under the guidance of a therapist. Hypnosis can basically be used within any form of therapy. Thus hypnotherapy can be used for a multitude of complaints, including stress, phobia, addiction, psychosomatic complaints, fear of failure, depression, chronic pain and eating problems. But is it also effective for fear of flying
What is fear of flying?
Fear of flying is an excessive fear of flying and belongs to the so-called specific phobias, i.e., it is an anxiety disorder. Fear of flying is quite common.
Usually combined with other problems such as claustrophobia or fear of heights, estimates for the Netherlands indicate that 14% of adults do not fly because of fear of flying. Research by Lufthansa even showed that 1 in 3 of their passengers suffer from fear of flying to a greater or lesser degree. And then they don't count the people who already don't fly.
Women suffer from fear of flying more than men. Women tend to suffer more from claustrophobia, fear of crashing and fear of not being able to control themselves. Men suffer more from fear of heights and are more afraid because they have no control over the plane.
There are several ways to address fear of flying
You can have your fear of flying treated through behavioral therapy or cognitive behavioral therapy. Behavioral therapy is mainly used for concrete complaints such as: addictions, sleep disorders, anxiety, phobia and bad habits.
In this process, the therapist has a directive role: the therapist sets the direction of therapy and indicates how to solve problems. Cognitive behavioral therapy initiates a therapeutic process through changing both dysfunctional behaviors and negative ways of thinking.
After all, how do you feel about yourself? Only when you feel good and satisfied with yourself can you start working on personal effectiveness. You can only get more out of yourself if you are first in balance with your own life, body, feelings and thoughts.
Hypnosis and NLP are ideally suited to work on your personal effectiveness and balance your life. NLP means Neuro Linguistic Programming, it is a collection of methods for understanding and changing inner experience.
The only truly fast way to change fear of flying is with hypnosis. This is because with hypnosis you work at the unconscious level of the brain, this is where decisions are made. By reprogramming the brain, it will create different behavior so that a different outcome is the result. This is because it is an unconscious automatic program that does not work.
By using substantiated treatment methods such as regression, you will learn to deal appropriately with fear of flying. Counseling helps in taking this difficult step. Together we get to the root of the problem and you learn to fly carefree again, or for the first time.
Tackling fear of flying right now?
You can tackle your fear of flying right now. For example, when you think about flying, you may see an image. If that is an image that instills fear try the following.
- Make it black and white, often the feeling then lessens or even goes away
- Put the image far away (this also reduces sensation)
- See yourself in the picture and stop it
This combination can work very well when you have an image in your head that is not working for you. I'd love to hear from you if you succeed in beating your fear of flying.
