How to build your own practice with hypnosis and hypnotherapy
To build your own practice with hypnosis and hypnotherapy, though, you have to be of sound mind. There are a number of things you need to be well aware of when you decide to do this. After all, you want a good practice that is successful and that you can make a living from I assume. Then take a moment to consider these tips
First a little math....
First, it is good to realize that there are about 70,000 therapists and coaches walking around in the Netherlands, and this is an estimate. There are probably even more. These are your colleagues (competitors) and these people want the same thing as you, namely enough clients.
First a little math to make something clear.
I used to like math, but most people don't. Still, it's good to take a moment to go along with the following math. It will provide clarity.
Suppose you charge 50 euros for a session. You have calculated that you need 2,000 euros to live on. In this sum, let's assume that the tax is already completely removed and that this is net.
So you need 40 sessions to get to this $2,000 figure. You see a client an average of 2 times, so in 1 month you need 20 clients. That's 240 a year...
Now you will say, that may be quite doable if I work hard for it, and maybe it is, but let's do the math....
The 70,000 colleagues probably want this too, and 240 (clients) x 70,000 = 16.8 million people! That's exactly the number of people who live in the Netherlands. So if everyone would use this strategy, everyone in the Netherlands would be helped in 1 year and would not come back.
Well...that's not going to work....
Tip for building a successful hypnosis practice
So you see that's not going to work and then you can start doing a couple of things. First, you can throw up the price. Suppose you charge 200 euros, then you 'only' need 5 customers in a month and I can tell you that 5 customers for 200 euros a month are easier to get than 20 for 50 euros. Of course, they then also have to come to you 2 times on average.
In addition, it's important that you therefore start setting yourself apart from those 70,000 others. Let me show you why that is so important. Do you know Pareto's law? Maybe not, it's the 80-20 principle which means that 80% of your revenue is going to come from 20% of the customers.
But the law applies not only to clients, but to everything in life you might say. 80% of the time you wear 20% of the clothes you have and the rest (80% of those clothes) you wear only 20% of the time.
So coming back to your colleagues, the 70,000 therapists/coaches. 20% of these have 80% of all clients. That means 14,000 have 80% of those clients.
Ok now you may be thinking, 14,000 I could be among them and I certainly believe that. But again the law applies there, so 20% of that has 80% of the clients, which means 2,800 has 64% of the clients. You feel it coming I guess....
There again that law applies so 560 people has 51.2% of the clients and if you continue like this 112 therapists/coaches in the Netherlands have more than 40% of all clients. Do you understand what this means? That most therefore have no clients at all. The curve on the right gives you a good picture I think....
So when you do the math, there are 5 coaches/therapists who have 26%! of clients, more than a quarter of all the clients out there....
In any case, the trick is to get to that top 560 and thus to the 0.8%. So 99.2% of therapists have to make do with less than half of all the clients out there. So the best tip is to see how the rest are doing and do the exact opposite, which is a greater chance of success than doing the same thing.
What it means specifically
It means you need to get clear on who your target audience is and start making choices. The 560 who attract more than half of the clients who do. Making choices is not cutting things out, but becoming a magnet for the people you want to attract.
It takes thought but it's worth it. I look forward to seeing what your target audience is going to be 🙂
