Hypnosis and coaching: for better results
Whether you are a coach for sports, personal coach or business coach. Ultimately, you coach to help people become better at what they do. A better athlete, a better person or a better employee/employer. To do this, you have to influence the people you coach, and that is easier with some people than others. Cocky, insecure, spoiled there are all kinds of reasons why people don't listen to you, even if they pay you for it!
To make sure you are the best coach you can be, in this blog I will discuss what makes a coach a good coach and how hypnosis can contribute to this.
You have a client who just won't take your advice. Everything you say is a bad idea. While you know it's not a bad idea at all. Now if only there was a way to get your client to listen so they don't get so ahead of themselves.
Hypnosis is a way to get people to listen to you that works 80% of the time. This does not automatically mean that your advice will now be followed, but this does mean that they will at least consider it and may even unconsciously follow your advice.
Being a coach is not easy and therefore many skills are needed.
Coaching Skills
As a coach, it’s important to develop certain skills. People want to be coached to achieve their goals. Being able to focus on that goal is essential to being a good coach—to bring your client back to the goal if they seem to be drifting toward a new one before the first goal has been achieved.
Another skill that is important for coaching is having an emotional quotient, or EQ. This means you can empathize with your client and with the emotions they experience while solving problems.
It does not matter whether these are emotional responses to problems in private, business or sports. Coaching, for that matter, makes no difference in this classification on the skills you must have.
Louis van Gaal is a good soccer coach because he understands the psyche of his players, not because he once played soccer. Being a top soccer player does not automatically mean you are a good coach, and being a good coach does not automatically mean you can live your client's work/life better than he/she can. Or that you are a top football player just to stay with the comparison.
Coaching goals skills
To help your client achieve their goals, it’s important to know how to motivate them . Exploring the motivational factors in your client’s life can therefore be key to success.
Does your client have intrinsic motivation? Then you know that failure to reach goals is not due to motivation in any case, but to other factors in his/her life.
On the contrary, does your client have extrinsic motivation to achieve certain goals? If so, you need to explore why those extrinsic factors are so important.
Interview Skills
To determine the motivation behind the goals, it is important to know how to ask questions to get to the root of the problem.
Being able to conduct motivational interviews properly ensures that goals are achieved better and faster. In a program where women suffered from obesity, it was found that when they were also interviewed about their motivation they had more control over the weight and also lost more weight.
The coach’s skills were correlated with a reduction in the participants’ waist circumference, their self-confidence, and their overall well-being—both physical and mental.
In these interviews, for example, ask about your client's experiences with their problem and what effects these experiences are having on your client's life.
Coach social skills
So as a coach, you also need social skills. These include empathizing with your client and being able to show understanding.
Even if you’re a sports coach or a business coach, having social skills is important, as is understanding your client’s perspective on personal development. Research has shown that sports coaches who also focused on personal development in addition to improving athletic performance often achieved the highest success rates.
These social skills are also important for creating hope. After all, people have a problem for which they hire someone to help them solve it. The step of hiring someone to do this is incredibly large and often happens only after someone has lost hope in the solution. Therefore, offering hope is incredibly important.
Getting paid as a coach
An important element, which is very exciting when you start coaching, is that you get paid for your coaching sessions. This is important because it makes people really invested in working on their problems.
Because they also feel the coaching in the wallet, clients are more likely to arrive on time and also do the homework you give them, such as assignments and even self-hypnosis.
How hypnosis can support coaching
That you take on quite a responsibility as a coach is obvious. Scholars also recommend that coaches work with psychologists and other health care professionals if the issues are beyond their expertise so that the client can be referred to an agency if it all proves too difficult.
Yet this often does not have to happen as quickly as expected, as there are multiple paths to Rome. Hypnotherapy has always been seen as something alternative, but it is being used in more and more hospitals and by more and more psychologists to help people with their problem.
Hypnosis for business life
Business coaching is very popular among entrepreneurs. Research on business coaching participants shows that a business coach must be trustworthy. Must be able to communicate well and be credible in the field they work in.
So a business coach does well to have client references.
In business coaching, hypnosis can help entrepreneurs or career-driven individuals stay focused on their goals. It can provide the self-confidence needed for their work, such as giving presentations and learning new skills.
Through hypnosis, the goal is for clients to have a greater impact on their work environment, such as being able to better advocate for themselves and have better focus while working.
Hypnosis for private life
A life coach is often hired to help deal with personal issues—such as getting a relationship back on track, making new friends, and truly relaxing at home so you can let go of work— these are all reasons to hire a coach.
Social anxiety can then be addressed, for example, such as agoraphobia. All this is also possible with hypnosis.
When it comes to finding a nice partner, work is also done on the self-confidence about the person as a human being, rather than a professional, and the self-esteem a person has. After all, a valuable person does not enter into a relationship with the first person.
Visualizations and hypnotic suggestions can then help get the social side of life back on track and help your client seize happiness in his or her life.
Hypnosis for sports
As a sports coach, hypnosis can certainly help your clients reach their peak performance.
For example, as a sports coach, it’s very important to foster self-confidence in an athlete’s ability to perform. This is because an athlete’s commitment depends in part on their confidence in their own abilities. If that confidence isn’t there, neither is the commitment.
Self-confidence is therefore very important for athletes to do their best to really win. Visualizing the sport can help tremendously to stimulate muscle memory at the moment suprême and thereby give the athlete wings.
Hypnosis can also maintain motivation to exercise. As a result, there is more focus during exercise and performance can also be improved.
As mentioned earlier in this text, the best sports coaches are those who also pay attention to personal development, in addition to development in sports. Personal problems can distract the athlete during a game and even during training which is not always good for performance.
By giving athletes the tools to make a success of their personal lives, you also help them make a success of their sports lives.
Hypnosis for all coaching forms
So hypnosis can certainly be an addition for any type of coach to improve coaching skills. Ultimately, hypnosis can sometimes break through blockages better than a good conversation. This is because the client is more open to suggestions and solutions during a hypnotic trance than when actively participating in the conversation.
Would you like to expand your coaching skills with hypnosis? Then you can get started by participating in a hypnosis workshop.
