Fighting Allergy: How to Do It.

A good tip for making your allergy a thing of the past.

One of the things you learn at the HIN's training is fighting an allergy. This is always one of my most enjoyable classes.

It's a little over half an hour until I start giving my training on the allergy technique. It's kind of interesting, because a lot of people think that allergies are not fixable. That it's something physical. It does manifest itself that way, in a physical experience. Maybe because your nose fills up or your eyes fill up or blisters or a thick throat, a thick tongue, or something even more serious that it can be deadly. And then when you say:

'Well, with hypnosis you can fix it!'

Then you usually get a very interesting response... ;-)

Some people do get fascinated and find it interesting. But most people find it very strange. They think: It can't be, it's not in my head or anything, I really have an allergy.

You may have been tested. And that's all true. There may be a test that proves it, but I always say to those people then:

'What is an allergy anyway? It's a reaction to a substance. It's reacting to something and if you look that up then reacting is a behavior.'

The Neighbor

If you then extend that to people it is sometimes easier to understand. Imagine you have a neighbor and you like him. Then you respond in a nice way. You get a certain feeling there. That can be neutral or nice....

But imagine you really think your neighbor is an asshole! Yes, then you react very differently. Then you might get irritated or angry. You react to the neighbor.

Your neighbor is your neighbor. Could you respond differently to that neighbor? Yes. You could. When you think about it, you think, "Yes, I have that choice. The question is:

So why don't you do that? Why not respond differently to that neighbor?

Because it triggers you to a certain response. A certain behavior. He doesn't actually do that. You do it, that behavior. You could respond differently, but you don't.

Now imagine that neighbor is a pollock, or a dog or a cat, it's exactly the same. You could react differently, but you don't.

Only now you also have the idea that you can't react otherwise. With that neighbor, you still have an idea of freedom of choice. But with that pol you think:

'Yeah, I really can't help that...'

And they're not! That pol is just like that neighbor. That bell pepper is just like that neighbor. That cat is just like that neighbor. It's behavior. Reacting to something.

So you can override that.

A simple way to do that is as follows.

You react to a substance and I make you react differently to that substance. Of course, you do it yourself. I help you, I facilitate that. And you learn how to respond differently to that substance.

Here's how it works

I've helped a lot of people with their allergies. What's funny is that afterwards they went to take an allergy test and with some the allergy was gone, and with others the allergy was still there, but the reaction was not there!

Such a test is also separate and doesn't always say everything. Of course, it is a good tool to see what you respond to. And then do hypnosis to change that. Often the more specific you know, the better you can change it.

For your brain, it doesn't matter if it's fantasy or reality. It simply creates that. There are many techniques you can use that way. In that respect, your brain is a genius learning machine.

That's also why I'm careful about giving suggestions or framing people. I don't say, 'You have hay fever.' ' or 'You're allergic right now.' Because I just know that suggestion becomes a truth. Because to your brain, it doesn't matter if it's fantasy or reality.

So the fantasy or suggestion becomes reality.

How it came about basically doesn't matter anymore, but how are you going to change it? By transcending it. You might think, "I suffer from an allergy. The moment I think about it I notice it.' - Then that's a self-learned response. - If at that moment you hold a handful of freshly roasted nuts or flowers under your nose and you sniff the smell, it becomes associated with that. If you do that a few times you override that.

You will find that you have created new behaviors. You've involved another sense. Smell is part of the sense of smell, and it comes to us quickly.

So rewrite it through:

  1. Hypnosis: Using suggestions to override your allergy.
  2. Rehearsing new behaviors so that you adopt a newly learned response.

Good luck!

What does science say about fighting allergy with hypnosis?

Hypnosis has been studied for its effectiveness in fighting allergies since the 1970s.

In children with allergies

One of the first studies shows how hypnosis is used to treat an allergy to dogs in children[1]. Information about the allergy and suggestions about confronting its trigger helped reduce the allergy.

Self-hypnosis for allergy control

Self-hypnosis can also be used by many people to combat allergies. In a study in which 34 people who classified themselves as allergic participated in a self-hypnosis course to combat allergy, 76%, more than 3 out of 4, reported that they suffered less from their allergy.

Of those taking medication for allergy, 86% were able to reduce their medication[2].

This shows the power of suggestion on your brain and how it then affects the reactions in your body.

Control of immune response

It also studied the immune response in people - who were highly hypnotizable - when they took a prick test that normally produces a reaction. Sort of like consciously evoking an allergic reaction. The interesting thing was that people had significantly less reaction when hypnotically suggested to reduce the reaction. (p=0,02). This means that the suggestion really had an effect on the body's immune response.

By the way, this could go two ways. Because even if you gave the suggestion to actually make the reaction worse it could, but that reaction was fortunately smaller than the reaction to diminish. That one had much more effect. But the beauty of this study is that it showed that the body's physical response to allergies was changeable in people who were in hypnosis and given the suggestion to reduce this response[3].

Research also shows that hypnosis can cause changes in T cells and B cells of the immune system. So even for other health problems, hypnosis could offer a helping hand. Again, this has been studied in people who could be hypnotized well[4]. With your health, it is always important to have help from a doctor and never just from a hypnosis expert.

If for no other reason than to keep a close eye on all responses and be able to reach out should the need arise.

Changing your subconscious quickly

So changing your view of the problem can certainly change your body's reaction to it, in this case that which triggers your allergy. Hypnosis works so well because it addresses unconscious thoughts and processes in your body.

With hypnosis you can better connect with your subconscious which allows your subconscious to better absorb the suggestions from the therapist or even with self-hypnosis and that allows you to change things you do unconsciously much faster. This can be about behavior, but also about the reaction your body has to certain substances.

Super cool how this works and that a good conversation under hypnosis can give you these insights and changes.

Want to learn more about hypnosis? Then come to the free online master class.

Do you want to help people, as a coach or in some other way? Then enroll in one of HIN's training courses. Then you will learn exactly how to help people get rid of allergies, for example.

Training is delivered online from a professional studio and with plenty of assistance for 1-on-1 attention. That way you stay nice and in the flow and the continuity of the training is not compromised by weird rules suddenly imposed on society.
