Setting goals is nonsense

Setting goals is nonsenseWhen you start setting goals you often end up disappointed. It is a truism that most goals are never met. So is goal setting nonsense?

Setting Goals is Nonsense

If you ask people if they have ever failed to achieve a goal, the answer is a "yes. Indeed, for some people the answer is even that they have never achieved a goal.

Those people then naturally set their goals wrong. Not in their own control or not positively worded or more untruths like that (I keep it clean...).

Positively formulated

A goal should be positively stated. According to whom? I have no idea. The subconscious mind doesn't seem to recognize the word. The subconscious mind is so incredibly smart. It can understand these words, breathe at the same time, keep your heart beating, keep your digestive system in balance, but the word not...No that is beyond comprehension.... Oops ...

Of course, when I say, "Don't think blue monkey," it's true that you're thinking blue monkey. But it is nonsense to think that you could therefore not formulate a goal as something "negative.

Like a goal such as: "I'm not jumping out of a plane" will cause you to jump out of a plane. Just because the word don't is in it. I challenge you to take something like that as a goal sometime. I hear it ;-)

With my legendary 20-minute therapy, I quietly tell clients, don't do this now and it works fine. When I tell my kids, "Don't get on the chair," they don't get on the chair. It's my intention that makes sure what I say really does come across.

Timeframe

Another dead giveaway and failure-guarantee I think is attaching a time to your goal. Especially when it comes to big life goals. People who then exclaim, "On April 12, 2012, I found the right life partner. I hope so for those people, but I doubt it.

Setting Goals Also Makes Sense

So is everything with goals meaningless? Do I think so? No, of course not. To shape your life, goals are important. It's about knowing what you want and living by it. That should be the goal.

The question to ask yourself is, 'Who are you as a person when you have achieved these goals. How does that make you feel?'

That feeling, that's your guide. It's crazy to think you know exactly what you want to have 10 years from now. You never have all the knowledge now to know what will be important 10 years from now. You do know now what you want to feel then. You have to use that in every decision you are going to make from now on.

Then use the end feeling to start achieving your goal. Whatever it is. Of course, you give yourself a direction, but don't pin yourself down to that. It could be something completely different. After all, the path unfolds as you walk.

For small successes, goals are great for that matter. For example, you want to finish that product in a month. You set yourself a deadline and you go for it. Then goals are very appropriate and very useful.

Don't make the mistake of setting your dream as a goal. You're missing out on a lot of information that you don't have right now. Follow your sense of what you feel when you achieve your dream and use that as direction for your life.
