Negotiate better using hypnosis

Negotiation, it's something you learn early if you're not the oldest kid in the house. That's when negotiation starts before the remote control, especially if that older child is a brother who, at the time, still really likes being the strongest. Although, of course, a social older child also puts his best negotiating foot forward. Haven't quite mastered the art of negotiation yet? Then in this blog I will discuss negotiation and how hypnosis makes you better at it

Significance negotiation

Negotiation actually consists of two words namely under and act. Trading means that you make a transaction. You make an agreement with another party to put down x amount of money for a certain something. Until you know what that x amount is going to be, you are engaged in an activity before trading, the under part of trading.

You and the other party will then take turns making proposals. For example, why you deserve a certain salary, or why you’re willing to pay a certain amount for a house or car. The other party will often respond with a counteroffer, along with a rationale for that offer.

You have to be strong in order to get the most out of a negotiation and not be too sensitive to the other party's arguments and really believe in your own.

Therefore, sometimes it is helpful to have just a little something extra behind during negotiations, such as hypnosis.

Beliefs about negotiation

To negotiate or not to negotiate? According to scientists, women in particular find it difficult to negotiate because they tend to be more compliant than men.

If you find negotiating difficult, it’s helpful to examine your beliefs about negotiating and, if they aren’t logical, to change them. Identifying the source of the beliefs that are holding you back from negotiating effectively can already be very helpful in giving yourself more negotiating power.

This exploration can be conducted in several ways, such as through a Socratic dialogue or regression. In a Socratic dialogue, the question “Why?” is repeated several times to get to the core of your belief. Then the hypnosis expert can help you influence that core, for example, by showing you that it isn’t logical.

Another way to get to the core of your beliefs is with regression. With regression, you go back to the moment when your subconscious determined that bargaining is not very necessary or even bad. These are often moments in childhood because that is when our beliefs are formed. Because you often don't have all the knowledge as a child that you do now as an adult, this can cause you to have very interesting but illogical beliefs. By looking at it with your adult knowledge, the belief against bargaining can already become a lot weaker.

Salary negotiation

Negotiating your salary is one of the most important negotiations you’ll ever have. The outcome of this negotiation often determines your income for a long period of time. That’s why it’s always a good idea to be well-prepared and calm during negotiations.

To stay properly calm, it is helpful to know your worth. A good sense of self-worth is therefore very important during these negotiations.

Initially, for example, you can check what people earn approximately who have the same job you're going to negotiate for. Then you might have arguments as to why you are worth even more than the average income.

Especially if you suffer from low business confidence and self-esteem, hypnosis can help increase this sense of value so that your negotiation goes better.

For example, one way is to apply self-hypnosis the weeks before you have the salary negotiation that boosts your self-esteem. This could then include suggestions such as:

"You have a success rate of more than 90%," he says.

"You learn from mistakes you make."

"You take initiative for your own development."

"You get along well with your peers."

"You are helpful to colleagues and clients."

"What you can't do you can learn."

Depending on the insecurities you are facing, a hypnosis expert can help you with other suggestions for improving your negotiating position during salary negotiations.

Negotiating for a house

Buying a house is incredibly exciting. It's helpful if the house is in good repair so you don't end up with all kinds of extra costs after the purchase to get the upkeep back on track.

Before negotiating a home, it is helpful to have a picture of the property. For this, it is quite normal to enlist the help of an expert. A structural engineer will look at it with his professional eye to make sure you do not buy a house that is sinking.

They also notice maintenance issues that can be quite costly anyway, allowing you to make an offer that better suits your financial position, or allowing you to waive the offer if the maintenance is just not doable anymore.

Negotiations can sometimes take a very long time, which can cause your emotions to run all over the place. That’s why, when negotiating the purchase of a home, it’s especially important to stay calm while waiting for the other party’s response.

In that case, hypnosis can help you relax while you wait. There are several exercises you can do to stay calm, such as a mindfulness body scan or a guided meditation.

In either case, you start by at least focusing on your breathing and relaxing your muscles. In a mindfulness body scan, you go through each body part to step by step relax your entire body.

A guided visualization causes you to unwind as you mentally leave for a nice place, such as the beach or another place where you can completely unwind.

Negotiating for a car

Negotiating for a car is yet another line of business than for a home. You usually get done a lot faster, and for this reason it is important to be on your qui vive during the negotiation. When negotiating for a car, it's helpful if you know what the car is worth on the used market so you don't overpay.

In addition, of course, you will take a test drive and inspect the car for rust and other hidden defects.

Sometimes this requires getting your hands dirty. To literally get down on the ground to take a good look under the car and to run your fingers along the wheel wells to check for rust that has been covered up with putty.

Especially if you find this very crazy, it is helpful to use hypnosis to visualize how to do whatever it takes to negotiate well to lower the price of the car. A hypnosis expert can help you with a guided visualization, such as:

"You are at the car you want to buy, but you know you need to check some things first. You introduce yourself and say "I'm going to take a good look at the car before we take a test drive." You walk around the car and check it for scratches, dents and bubbles in the paint that indicate rust. You ask if there is a bridge where the car can be set up for a while, but if that's not possible you don't hesitate and just lie down to get a good look under the car. You feel the ground, which feels a bit cold (yes, the Netherlands), and run your fingers along the wheel arches to feel if there are any bumps that could indicate rust. If you find some you try to break it down so you can actually show the rust. Then you take a test drive paying close attention to ride comfort and the noises the engine and suspension make. Every little sound and dent or anything like that you remember to use during negotiating to get the price down."

This is just an example of a guided visualization. With any type of negotiation, the guided visualization can help you prepare for the negotiation and with this you can also practice staying calm at times when you need to be strict about your own future to ask for more.

Negotiation is necessary in many areas of your life, for what you earn and later for how you spend that earned money again. Good negotiation can therefore be extremely important to ensure that you are well off. Hypnosis can help with this by influencing your beliefs and by visualizing how you negotiate successfully.
