I think there are a huge number of different definitions of hypnosis; Edwin, may I therefore also consider the following one to be correct??? Hypnosis is the artificial triggering (at least in shock inductions) of the brain’s primary defense mechanism, whereby the critical factor is bypassed so that the conscious mind is sidelined.2) What I’m actually wondering is: someone is under hypnosis—they hear everything, feel everything, and are intensely focused on the hypnotist’s voice… Despite this, can this person still think for themselves and say to themselves, “Well, whatever that person is saying, that’s not for me”… Does this person then come out of “hypnosis,” or is the hypnosis stronger than the conscious mind, and does this person remain under hypnosis despite their thoughts??? Best regards, Steven.
