Work addiction is that ok
You may not imagine it. But there are people who are "addicted" to working. Most people work because they need an income. Then you have a group of people who really like what they do, but unfortunately don't earn that much. Then you have the group who really like what they do and have a good income, so then that's ok, right? Or not.
Work addicts and the workaholic
Work addiction can arise in a number of ways. For example, because the person enjoys his or her work so much that they basically can't stop. Even if they were sitting at home they would still be working at their job. They are available for all hours, at work or at home on the computer or behind the laptop to get busy with work. Pretty harmless you might think, but it can also cause tremendous stress and then you have the people who feel obligated to work a lot.
Work addiction is not to be confused with hard work. The person in question does not actually suffer from it himself. But his or her environment does. It is also the case that when the person is not working then, work does come to mind. Like other things, or addictions, it can start innocently. You have no harm in it yourself. People who are addicted to substances or are addicted anyway do not want to acknowledge that they have a problem.
What is the hallmark of addiction
What do you think is the reason people become addicted to a habit? It's a rush, a so-called rush that people experience. You have the adrenaline junkies. People who need an extreme form of a rush every time. It can be anything. For example, bungee jumping. Jumping down from a crane, bridge or other high object.
Parachute jumping, cross-country racing, roller coasters or other attractions that go fast and hard. They seek more and more and further the limit to get their adrenaline shot. The thrill, the action, the kick, the rush. These are words those people say. In that case, they also resemble the workaholics. Maybe hard to imagine, but those people also seek the adrenaline. And they get it through work. Or thinking about that.
But that's one of the reasons. The underlying automatic program is restlessness. You stay restless and to dampen that, you have to do something, you can't sit still and you are overflowing with ideas.
People with an addiction, and especially a work addiction, do not experience it as unpleasant or a problem at all. They feel that people shouldn't worry so much. What they don't realize is that slowly but surely they isolate themselves more and more from their partner, children, family, friends and so on. Everything has to give way to the work they do.
They are increasingly shutting themselves off and their social interactions and the lives of others are heavily affected. They increasingly push away the people who care and love them. This can also be accompanied by alcohol consumption, hence the term workaholic. Again, many people appear to have a void in this and they fill it by being constantly busy with their work and seeking the thrill.
If you want to tackle restlessness, you have to look for the cause of that restlessness. If you don't do that and start applying band-aids to combat the symptom then it will only shift.
