Where is the hypnosis button....
Deciding to go into hypnosis
It's good to know that going into hypnosis isn't all that spectacular. After all, you already do it all day long. When you're reading a book or driving in the car or someone talks to you so much that you dive into hypnosis to escape. You know that, of course.
So it is not something magical, occult or woolly. It's being used more and more in hospitals, and assume they're not just going to do that. It really has been tested extensively, but what can you do with it.
Now, it is true that anyone can go into hypnosis. However, the depth may vary. That doesn't really matter, it's just a given. Of course, you can train that by allowing yourself to go more and more into hypnosis and go deeper and deeper.
The depth ...
What is deep in hypnosis? Well, opinions differ on that and my opinion is as follows. There is no depth, there are only tests to see if someone is in a certain state of hypnosis. That state can be reached with eyes open or eyes closed.
There are several stages:
- Unconscious automatic responses
- Sticky
- Amnesia
- Hallucination
Stage 1 are the unconscious automatic responses such as, for example, a hand lightening and raising. You give suggestions to someone and they are acted upon. When that happens then you can move on to phase 2.
Stage 2 is having a hand or feet taped. It's something a person can consciously refute easily. Just think about yourself. Can you now have your hand glued without any tool other than your mind? Probably not, which is why this is also a "deeper" state of hypnosis. You can still raise a hand by yourself.
Stage 3 is forgetting something like a number or your name. This stage they also call the somnabulistic stage and in this stage you can also sedate yourself and is important to use in hospitals.
And stage 4 is hallucinating and really being able to identify with someone, as if you were someone real. In this stage, you are completely in a different reality. Exactly the reality that the hypnotist presents to you. This is the stage you've seen on hypnosis shows or on TV.
You can take these tests, bringing someone to a certain stage where other things are possible. To solve most problems, phase 1 is sufficient. When you reach phase 3 (or 4) then short instructions are enough to make a change in that person.
With these stages and tests, you also do street hypnosis, for example. If you want to get good at that, there is that opportunity on April 21 and April 22 in Amsterdam. However, you can already do it with people now when you hypnotize them. Just test it out.
