What can hypnosis help with?
What can hypnosis help with? That's a question we get asked a lot, and it can be answered very briefly or very comprehensively.
First the short version: For any psychosomatic complaint.
The long variant: Anything from the psyche can be solved with hypnosis. And what is all that? A lot. In fact, too much to list, because what is not born out of the psyche
What can hypnosis help with?
A few things not.
- Genetic disorders
- External injury
- Poison (intake)
The above things can cause problems that obviously require other interventions. You can treat the rest of the symptoms with hypnosis.
So what can hypnosis help with?
When you consider that only two to five percent of problems are related to a genetic disorder, and you would not count the last two, so 98% of all problems would be treatable with hypnosis.
So that's a lot. The most common complaints that hypnosis can help with are:
- Fears
- Uncertainty
- Traumatic experiences
- Smoking
- Overweight
- Depression
- Burnout
- Compulsions
The list is far from complete because under the heading of fears alone there are already five hundred different fears to mention such as fear of speaking (public speaking), fear of heights, fear of flying, fear of spiders or fear of driving.
You can also think of a whole range of things under the heading of traumatic experiences. From a bad childhood to war trauma and everything in between. Of course, severe trauma is not remedied in one session, but a few sessions of hypnotherapy often does more than a year of talking in a support group.
When it comes to depression, hypnosis can also be very helpful. There again, it's all about the degrees. One depression is not the other, but it is often not hereditary or genetic. Many people are often told that, but they don't have proof and neither does the doctor. It is often said and the proof comes from a questionnaire. Strange way to diagnose an illness, don't you think?
I myself have treated people with depression. Some were even on track after just one session and others after a few sessions. If they have been depressed for a long time and are on medication, it often takes longer. Partly because first you have to hypnotize away the bad suggestions from other therapists.
We want to make people self-reliant, and it is unfortunate that a lot of therapists actually want to make people dependent. Whether that is to their therapy or to pills. Hypnosis can help make people self-reliant again.
People can do more than they think when there is someone who believes in them.
