Thinking big: Is it good for you?

Do you also have those figures around you who think you should think big? Where is the line between thinking small and thinking big? What is the advantage of thinking big and how can you make sure that you are allowed to think big? In this blog I will discuss the advantages of thinking big and give you tips to promote thinking big.

Thinking big, some people get scared of it and others see it as a challenge. When you allow yourself to think big, and to achieve those big goals with small steps. In any case, you will already create a lot less fear

Thinking big and your goals

When you think big, this has all kinds of benefits for the goals you set for yourself. You may first think, "I just want a job I can make ends meet." When you think big you may think, "I want to make 20,000 euros a month and have a penthouse in the middle of Amsterdam and in New York."

Of course, you might now think that penthouse in New York is unattainable, but is it really? Amsterdam by now is not the cheapest city in the world either, so a penthouse in Amsterdam or in New York don't even have to be such different big-picture goals. Besides, you have much more supply of penthouses in New York than in Amsterdam.

Thinking big, then, causes you to dare to set yourself bigger goals that will get more out of your life anyway. If you get halfway to the big goal, you've probably already forgotten about your small goal where you just wanted to make ends meet. Maybe you don't have a penthouse in New York, but you do have a nice and spacious apartment in the center of Amsterdam.

Think big and your creativity

If you only want to make ends meet, this can also become a limitation for you. You may be too modest to take more than you need. Whereas with a little more, you may live happier and easier than if you only have what you need.

Thinking big therefore also causes you to put fewer limits on yourself. You don't have to act normal, just go crazy! Big goals are also more difficult to achieve, so you have to be creative to overcome some problems. For example, what good is a penthouse in New York if you can only go there on vacation, so how do you get a green card? By immersing yourself in problem solving, you also practice thinking more creatively yourself, because why do it the hard way when it can be easy?

Thinking big increases the likelihood of success

Do you have a business and think big and need to invest heavily to do so? Then you are also more likely to be successful, as you cannot afford to fail.

Especially in a society where money is very important, incurring expenses can make you very motivated to at least earn that back.

In the process, it's just super cool when you achieve your big goal, which also makes you more motivated to do something.

Big thinking attracts talent

Big goals are hard to achieve on your own. Usually you have to collaborate with other people to achieve a big goal. If you then look at Boyan Slat who wants to clean up the oceans so that the fish and other animals in the sea are less affected by the plastic you see that he has been able to gather around him a large team of motivated engineers and other knowledge.

In the process, he has also managed to fund the whole project because people find these great goals inspiring and are eager to contribute to them, even if it is only with money because they have no other knowledge he needs to achieve his goal.

Freeing your mind to think big

Now do you think this is all fun and games. Do you have a mission in the back of your mind that you want to accomplish "someday," but find it difficult to really allow yourself to think big? Then it is important to clear your mind of limitations and blockages that cause you to keep thinking small while secretly wanting to think big.

To find out what those blockages are, you can first look at the beliefs you have about how the world works and how you function in it. There are several ways to figure out those beliefs. Among others, regression and Socratic conversation are very popular among hypnosis experts, coaches and psychologists to do this.

With a Socratic conversation, the why question is repeated several times to get to the core of your beliefs that are blocking you. The beauty of this conversation is that you can also find out that limitations that prevent you from thinking big are not based on anything. This leaves you with a nice empty base to incorporate new big thinking beliefs.

So another way is with regression. With regression, you go back to the moment when your unconscious mind figured out that thinking big is not good for you. That it is better to keep yourself small and so are your thoughts. This is often a moment in childhood because that's when you form the beliefs about how the world works and how you can survive in that world.

As a result, these can be very distinct moments that have led you to believe that thinking small is better than thinking big. Now with more life experience and knowledge of how you look at the world as an adult, you can look at that moment very differently, allowing you to easily remove the belief and replace it with beliefs that help you think big.

Positive thinking to think big

Have you ever noticed that small thinking is often negative thinking? You can't. Just act normal and you'll be crazy enough. It's too expensive. It's impossible. All negative thoughts you can have when you think small.

So to think big, it's important to think positive. After all, you can do that, you can learn that. Going crazy can become the new normal and something that is too expensive can also be a good investment. In the end, nothing is impossible, you just have to find a way to make it possible.

One way to think positively is to be mindful of your thoughts. If you find yourself looking at something negatively or limiting yourself try to change that thought to something positive, for example:

"I can't do this."

Change this thought to

"I don't know how to do this yet."

The latter, in fact, offers the option to learn and find out how to do something. The first thought actually rules out all other options leaving you stuck in not being able to do something.

Self-confidence and big thinking

Those negative thoughts that come with thinking small? Those are unfortunately also part of lowering your self-confidence. Fortunately, hypnosis can also help improve your self-confidence to make thinking big easier.

Just thinking positively will make a lot of difference, and improving your self-confidence will also take you quite a few steps forward. There are several ways to improve your self-confidence in big thinking and action. One way, for example, is to repeat hypnotic suggestions during self-hypnosis. These are also often given to you by your hypnosis expert on an mp3 to listen to.

For self-hypnosis, you find a quiet comfortable place and put on clothes that are comfortable so you can focus entirely on self-hypnosis. You lie down or sit down and first focus on your breathing and relaxing your muscles. Then you listen to the mp3 with suggestions. Often there is an induction that helps you to get into hypnosis.

Suggestions for improving self-confidence and big thinking may include:

"You have no limits and restrictions," says the company's director, "and you have no limits."

"You get to achieve anything you want to achieve," says the company's CEO, "and you can achieve anything you want to achieve."

"What you can't do, you can learn."

"There is a solution for everything."

"Other people get to help you."

These are just examples of hypnotic suggestions. Depending on your blocks to thinking big, a hypnosis expert may give you other suggestions.
