Over the past year...
Last year, many things happened. Beautiful things, but also not so beautiful things and even for me very unpleasant things. Such is life of course but from everything you can learn something if you are open to it. In this article you can read what my goals are, which goals I have achieved and how you can achieve your goals more easily
Over the past year
In this year I have accomplished great things butI will start with what has affected me the most this year and that is the passing of my father. You should know that for many years I didn't cry because I simply couldn't anymore. Somewhere in my youth I decided not to cry anymore (long story) and so I didn't do that for 30 years.
A lot of that had to do with my father. He never cried either, and I think my grandfather never cried either. That my grandfather died none of the men cried and I decided there (unconsciously) not to cry anymore. There was more behind it but that's a long story and not necessarily very relevant now (and too emotional too...).
What happened with me this year is that crying is fine now and that was a separate gift from my father to me. My father passed away last March and still it's unreal so that's how 2014 "started" fierce and raw....
Relationships are important...
Then you notice that relationships, after health, are the most important thing in your life and for next year, one of my goals is to deepen relationships with people, both with my wife, children, but especially with my friends. What is "success" if you can't share it with people. So that is my number one priority for next year.
Now I'm not one for resolutions, but I am one for goals. It's good to know what you want, what you don't want and make a plan for your life, your relationship, your work, your finances, your health, your body and your mental constitution. If you don't then I think you are selling yourself short.
Of course, everyone should know this for themselves, but it's also fun to do. Imagine if you could live the life you want to live? Maybe you already do, super! But if you don't then it might make sense to make a plan for your life. Anyway.
Goals for the 'Work'
When you're doing the work you love, it's not really work at all. This year I have run a tremendous number of training days and again next year and I love it. Last year I trained a lot of people and the company doubled as a result.
The goal for next year is to double that number again and train even more people, because I believe that many people aren’t receiving the care they deserve. Poor therapists, poor care, and excessive use of medication—which, in my view, is unnecessary. I hope to change that, and I’m proud that the program is now recognized by the BATC and that we now offer a professional hypnotherapy training program.
The quality of the training has also gone up tremendously and it shows in the level. That too is a goal for next year to especially raise the quality of the training. We want to become the market leader in professional hypnosis training and are well on our way to expanding to other locations.
What do you actually do for work? Are you satisfied or could it be a lot better....
Do you know...
I was a construction worker and now hypnosis trainer. Why? Because I wanted to become a trainer... First there was the desire, then the goal and then it became truth. But you have to keep going and never give up or let go of your passion. I see so many people quitting and then I think.... Why?
Sometimes there is a good reason for this, but is there really a good reason to let go of what you really want? Are you doing work you don't want? Make a plan and start looking for what you really want to do. Really, it can be done and I know it can be done.
The secret?
GO ON!
It's often as simple as that. Of course do adjust if you're walking down a road toward a ravine, but that's different than quitting. I wanted to be a corporate trainer and I am now a hypnosis trainer. Wasn't in the planning, but the road unfolds naturally for those who dare to walk....
Goals for Sports
Sport is very important. It clears your head, it keeps your body doing great, and it gives you the energy to do what you want to do. Choose a sport you like and just go do that.
If you don't like fitness and running then you're never going to stick with it. So don't! I love aikido and have no problem spending hours a week doing it. You can find something that suits you and do it. Health and energy is the most important asset you have, so take care of it.
When you make a plan for your life, schedule it as follows. First your free time, then sports and then work. You need your free time to recharge, you need sports to boost your energy and then you can really pop at work (which you enjoy, of course).
And more cool things that have happened
- Been on TV at 10xbeter through the summer and on RTL 5 where a million people in total saw me
- Been on radio 538 with Ruud de Wild and with Dolf Jansen
- Standing in the main auditorium of the Zaantheater where there were 300 people and where I hypnotized 116 people at once
- Not to mention the great times with amazing people I had the pleasure of meeting again this year....
What are your greatest moments?
How to achieve your goals for 2015
- Get clear on what you want. Too many goals is not helpful, limit yourself to 1 or 2 things per theme. A theme could be sports, finances, work, relationships, health or emotion management.
- For each goal, write out what it would cost you if you don't achieve it. Make the "pain" of not achieving it very strong. Pain is a strong motivator for many people and can serve you well. Ask yourself questions like, "What would happen if I still put on a lot of weight in 5 years?" or "What if I don't start exercising now, what would I be like in 10 years? Put yourself fully into that pain and you will find that you are going to be driven.
- Of course, write down what it would get you in 1,2,3,5 or 10 years. And commit a lot of fun to it. Immerse yourself completely in that, too.
- Then you start making a plan to meet those goals. Set subgoals for in 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, as well as for as early as next week. You need to be working on your main goals every day because then you're sending a signal to your brain that this has to happen. If you think that from one workout you will immediately have the body of Arnold Schwarzenegger then it is not going to work... So it is with any goal....
- Celebrate every sub-goal and goal achieved and make new goals after your achieved goals. Of course, you don't want to fall into a hole because you don't know what you should be doing.
For me, life is a path ... not a destination ... and the goals are the signposts :-)
My goals for 2015 are
- Deepening my relationships and building and/or strengthening truly beautiful and loving connections.
- Getting fit and strong which means having a six pack by June 1 and being able to do at least 100 pushups by then. And can run the half marathon by Sept. 1.
- My company quintupled in revenue.
- Master the basics of stick and sword fighting
- Their own theater show
- Their own television program
These are my goals. Not too much, not too little and quite challenging.
