Hypnosis and hypnotherapy for stuttering

Many people suffer from stuttering. In fact, everyone stutters, only most people don't worry about it or don't even notice it. There are some ideas about solving stuttering that are very interesting and that I do work with.

Stuttering

Stuttering is having an irregular speech rhythm. You often know exactly what you want to say, but it doesn't come out. Especially some words can be hell for a stutterer. You also have two types of stuttering, overt stuttering and hidden stuttering.

We all hear the overt stuttering. You hear it immediately when someone is stammering out a word and you know then that the person is stuttering. The second variant is perhaps an even bigger problem because the stutterer is obviously very inventive, just like any person with a problem.

The hidden stutterer unerringly knows how to avoid words that are going to cause problems, and so even an outsider may not hear that he is dealing with someone who stutters.

It seems that about 1% of people stutter or at least have problems with it. In the Netherlands, that makes about 170,000. That's a lot and especially when you realize the following things:

  • Stutterers can talk just fine, just not in front of people. When they talk to their pets they are not bothered by anything
  • They can also sing everything fluently

Very interestingly, however, they can talk just fine when there are no people around or very familiar people (although sometimes that doesn't matter). So speech therapy does not help because they can already do it. What matters is that they apparently do not dare or become insecure around other people. If they didn't have that, they wouldn't stutter either.

Hypnosis and Stuttering

A different angle from the one I just discussed is the hypnotherapy angle. You can look at stuttering as a social anxiety and that is also a very interesting angle. You can also look at it differently.Stuttering and hypnosis

In hypnotherapy we assume that the stuttering a rose because the person could not say something they needed to say. When you are little then things can happen that make you stutter. Imagine your little brother breaks something and you know he will get a lot of punishment if you tell. You have to say it from your father but you can't say it. Yet you said it and at times like that it can cause a stutter.

Now an occasional moment is not so shocking. You too may have needed to say something, but couldn't at the time for some reason. You probably don't stutter because of that, but when you are small everything is just a little different. After that, if something like that happens again then a pattern may develop and you start to stammer when you want to say something.

The resulting insecurity can make it worse to the point that you can hardly talk normally to others at all. Mind you, that you can talk just fine just not to others and that's quite a difference.

In hypnosis, we trace that mistake with regression and see what really happened. Often it is simply a mistake and has stuck. You don't need to go to speech class, you talk just fine. You just need to get rid of that mistake and we correct it with our hypno-stutter therapy like Glenn's.

Below is his experience with our stuttering method:

Hello

My name is Glenn van der Burg, and I’m 20 years old.
I’ve stuttered for as long as I can remember.

I used to go to speech therapy when I was in third grade, but it didn’t help.
Years later, I went to the Del Ferro Institute in Amsterdam.
There, in 10 days, you learn how to breathe and do exercises to get rid of your stutter.
You actually have to think about how you breathe and how you want to say the sentence every time you want to speak, so you have to prepare your sentence well in your head.
That turns out to be impossible in everyday life.

I used to stutter a lot but after I went to Amsterdam it did become a little less.

But when I’m really nervous, I stutter quite a bit.
In social situations, that’s pretty difficult, but it’s also a challenge in other areas, like talking to other people and strangers.

A few weeks ago, I heard Edwin Selij on the radio and I thought.

WHAT TO DO.

I went there this morning, and Sten Turk hypnotized me.
Within 10 minutes, he was done, and I was talking just like everyone else.

I'm still amazed at this, I just don't contain it.

I wish I’d done this 15 years ago.
That would have spared me a lot of problems, because as a child you get bullied a lot if you’re different from others.
But society is tough, too—at my old job, my boss would just mimic me, under the pretense that “it’s just a joke; you have to be able to handle it.”
That’s really easier said than done.

So if someone stutters, get hypnotized.

REALLY DOING.

It really helps.
And I should know.
