Song Contest 2019 is historic and this lesson you can take from it
Last night something historic happened. I sat and watched the entire song contest in its entirety for the first time.
And now, of course, I could start writing a very sour piece about what a money-hungry charade the Eurovision Song Contest is with lots of meaningless artists and songs, about how the points are given by countries, about the last few winners (a fat chicken and a woman with a beard) or about Madonna...
Eurovision Song Contest 2019
Well, you know, a lot of great heroes die early. Andre Hazes, Michael Jackson, George Michael and you name them all. They thus save themselves a possible sad demise.
Now I grant Madonna that she continues to live happily ever after, but it would be good if she stopped singing....
Anyway, before it becomes such a stretch. How great was that Duncan! Still is of course, but he did a fantastic job yesterday. Goosebumps I had. He was right there with his energy and went all out.
Until the beginning of the year, hardly anyone knew this guy and now he is making history for the Netherlands by winning the song festival. Not won since 1975 (my year of birth) so I had never consciously experienced that. Yesterday I did and especially for that boy I think it is too crazy.
You know, whatever you think about it, it's always nice when the Netherlands wins right? If they were to win at curling (with those funny little sweepers) I'm crazy enough to cheer too. I'm totally into it too. After all, these are all achievements for which you have to do a lot.
And then when you win, that's awesome and this achievement is very unique.
Anyway, nice for him, but what can you do with all this and what lessons could you get out of it. He (Duncan) says himself, 'Pick up that pen, pick up that guitar, or that keyboard. Because you see: it can be done!'
With that, he can now inspire people to do more with music. That's what often happens to people who accomplish something unique. There are now people in the Netherlands who are going to do something. And what they are going to do we might also see in a few years.
That makes these kinds of shows (like the song contest) and also sporting events worth hosting. It gives hope and inspiration to a generation. And you never know what great things will come out of that.
