Self-hypnosis to make good resolutions succeed this year

New Year's resolutions, we always look forward to them so much. But after 3 weeks into the new year, chances are you'll abandon your resolutions and let them fall apart. Quit smoking? Slimming down? Work harder? Read an informative book every day? It's hard to keep it up really well. Fortunately, self-hypnosis can help you make your good intentions succeed this year

Thinking about your good intentions

Now that it's December, it's a good idea to start thinking about your new good intentions. What would you like to accomplish next year?

The idea of self-hypnosis to achieve your resolutions is to visualize what it looks like when you achieve those resolutions. This is with the idea that thoughts become real. In English, Thoughts become things.

You’ll be guiding your subconscious to do the things necessary to transform yourself into that ideal version of yourself.

Sometimes your subconscious may already be working on this a little. For example, some people feel relieved when they get fired because they actually found the job terrible. In that case, your subconscious—perhaps because you’re already fantasizing about a life without that terrible job—may cause you to start behaving slightly differently at work, making your role no longer fit the work you do.

This forces you to look for a new job —and this time, one that’s a good fit for you.

To prevent your subconscious from messing with you, it's better to think about what you want yourself, so that such a layoff doesn't come suddenly and you're actually surprised and not fully prepared.

Tips for using self-hypnosis for your good intentions

There are a number of ways to ensure that self-hypnosis with visualizing your goals is most effective.

Tip #1: Let go of how things are done

The biggest barrier to doing what you want to do is the beliefs you have about how something is supposed to be. You may be supposed to be employed, you're supposed to stay in your social class, you're supposed to have a wine, you're supposed to hang out in front of the television at night, or you're supposed to be at the gym at night.

Let go of what belongs and visualize what you want. Whether it belongs or not.

Tip 2: Take another look at your default goals

Usually, you already have standard goals. For example, many women are always trying to lose weight and don’t even need a New Year’s resolution for that. Let go of that status quo for a moment and look for goals that make you happy. Self-acceptance can therefore be very important.

Tip 3: What is your perfect day

Visualizing becoming a millionaire is fun, but doesn't always help you become happy. You might actually become a lot richer. Instead, consider what your perfect day looks like. How do you wake up? What do you have for breakfast? What do you do in the morning? What do you take for lunch? What do you do in the afternoon? What do you take for dinner? What do you do in the evening? You can also think about where you do all of this.

Who knows where this visualization will lead you?

Tip 4: Visualize living more of the life you want to live

So you have a certain life in mind, but how do you get there? How do you get to carrying out the good intention? So in that case, you also start visualizing what steps you need to take to achieve that perfect day, or those good resolutions, and how you take those steps.

Tip 5: Consider how you make meaning in the world

One way to become happier, which is often the goal of good intentions, is to give your life meaning. For example, you give your life meaning because you can say that you have left your mark on the world. No matter how small. You can do this, for example, by making the world more beautiful through art, by helping other people, or in many other ways.

Does your good intention help make more meaning in the world?

Tip 6: Identify what energizes you

To really carry out a good intention, it is helpful if it is something that will give you more energy. Something that can be your mission in a fun way. What makes you feel like getting out of bed for? With what activity do you lose track of time? With what activity do you forget to eat?

Tip 7: Think big

This is also something that many people struggle with, especially in the Netherlands where you have to act normal because you're already crazy enough. No you don't. Focus on your biggest dreams and see how you live them in your mind. Even if you secretly think it is not possible at all.

After all, dreams are the potential your subconscious sees in you; you just need to take the steps to get there.

Steps to visualize well

Now that you've read all these tips, it's time to apply and visualize self-hypnosis. To do this, first put on comfortable clothes, if you don't have them on right now.

Sit or lie down in a comfortable place where you can relax completely. Signal any roommates not to disturb you right now.

First, breathe calmly and relax your muscles. Close your eyes and then start visualizing. First, release any tensions you have about how everything should be. Let go of any standard daily goals and visualize your perfect day.

Visualize how you feel, how you eat, how it tastes, how you move, what you smell, see and hear.

You may visualize in detail, the more details the better even.

To think big, you can also give yourself the occasional assignment:

"And what would it be like if it's twice as much, as delicious, as big, or something like that."

You'll find that suggestion stimulates your imagination to think even bigger.

Other suggestions you might consider are:

"What would you do if you could make more meaning in the world?"

Or

"What activity gives you energy when you're engaged in it," says Dr. K. K., who is the director of the company.

This stimulates your subconscious to conjure up images of it. This helps you make your good intentions even stronger.

Commit to your goal

Next when you have visualized it well you are going to commit to your goal. You are going to commit to your visualization. That's the life you're going to, those are the steps you're going to take.

What you can do is repeat the following suggestion during self-hypnosis:

"I commit myself to this cause," says Mr. K.

You visualize yourself setting your own goals and saying "I commit to this goal."

You visualize what your perfect day is and then you say out loud and let it be felt throughout your body "I commit to this day."

You visualize what steps you will take on your perfect day and say out loud "I commit to these steps."

It is important to visualize that connection to your goal that encompasses your whole body and that you feel it. Then you say that you commit to your visualization and the achievement of that visualization.

Then slowly allow yourself to come back out of hypnosis by

Help from the hypnotist

While doing this at home, you might feel like it’s not working. If you don’t have much experience with hypnosis, that’s not surprising. You can therefore start by asking a hypnotherapist for help to clarify your goals for yourself.

The hypnotist will then guide you into a hypnotic state and give you suggestions that help your subconscious mind form a clear mental image. The hypnotist does not dictate your goals but helps you see the environment in which you can operate.

Then you know the feeling of hypnosis, which helps you to hypnotize yourself again at home. In the process, a hypnotist can help you with an mp3 you can play to bring yourself under hypnosis.

Learn Hypnosis

Precisely, you want to be the person people come to for help in setting and realizing their dreams or good intentions. Then you can help them with hypnosis.

During a hypnosis workshop, you can learn in just one day how to put someone under hypnosis and verify whether it actually worked. You’ll also find out that day whether you yourself can be hypnotized.

Would you like to learn more, such as how to help people with hypnotherapy? Then come to a seminar or sign up for one of the courses offered by the Hypnosis Institute of the Netherlands.
