NLP practitioners cannot use hypnosis

It’s striking how many people who have studied NLP cannot hypnotize others. Even those who have studied it in training (or teach it) are often not very good at it. They are often unmatched when it comes to language patterns, but lack the foundation to be truly effective. And yet, as a model, NLP is fundamentally rooted in hypnosis.

Hypnosis is easy

If you compare NLP to hypnosis, hypnosis is fundamentally much easier. Whereas as an NLP practitioner you pay attention to all kinds of linguistic constructs, sensory filters, submodalities, and omissions, that isn’t necessary with hypnosis. It does make you a better hypnotist if you do all of this, but it doesn’t have to be an obstacle to being good at hypnosis.

You could say that NLP works through the rational mind, while hypnosis works through emotion. There are people who are much more in touch with their rational mind than with their emotions. There are people who are much more in touch with their emotions than with their rational mind. We humans are energetic systems driven by a certain balance between reason and emotion—and sometimes by a lack of balance, which is also a point of equilibrium. ;-) Could you say that people who are more emotional are easier to hypnotize? Have fun.

@Ton Everyone is easy to get into hypnosis. It doesn't necessarily have to do with feelings. Often people with great imaginations can get into hypnosis easier because it's about being able to imagine it happening.
