My past year...

Do you know? You start energetically with good intentions. Remember the beginning of 2018? Like you, I probably had a lot of good intentions. For example, I wanted to set up three companies, rock the AFAS live with a thousand people in an insane seminar, and teach hypnosis to more than five hundred people... But yes that went a little differently....

Good intentions don't work

And what became of your resolutions? Maybe you did a lot better than I did because I had to pull the plug on two businesses. My heart and soul were in it so that hurt. I also had to cancel AFAS because I couldn't save a thousand people....

Painful. How did it go for you? Off to a brisk start but stranded in February or March? Or even earlier?

You know, it happens to almost everyone. It's Blue Monday on the third Monday of January for a reason. From that day forward, most people go back to the same way they did the year before. Of course not exactly the same, because you're going to experience really cool things, but also shit things.

Alas.

Few people don ' t want to grow, get ahead in life, earn more this year or feel morepeace, freedom and love. You probably want that , I think. Yet few people manage to take really big steps and I too fell for it in early 2018.

Indeed, growing was fine, only in weight. From January to mid-March, we had "suddenly" gained 7 pounds and, as a bonus, an addiction to pink cakes. Do the math if you continue to grow like that for the rest of the year. In my case I would be about 120 kilos.

The moment that defines you

The positive news is that things did change, just not in the way I had planned. And it just happens. If you let it go that way and allow small but bad habits every day, then you get those kinds of results.

And then things go from bad to worse, because you often don't care much anymore. Ah what difference does one such cookie make. Drink extra, eat a little more, don't feel like going to the gym with all those sweaty people.

This is how it went for me in early 2018, except for that drink. Result? Tired, burnt out, no desire, frustrated, getting fatter and fatter and irritable.

It's not that you don't know. We do know everything. I mean on the Internet there is a lot of information, I even write books about it. But knowing is not enough. You know that too. You have to start doing something.

Important Life Lessons

You just have to do something completely different sometimes. With me, that wasn't higher math. I went:

  • Train hard
  • Sleep well
  • Good food

I didn't really know about the former and the latter so I called in experts. Three people to whom I owe a lot in the past year besides my family and you are Tibor Olgers (my business coach who saw right that I had to start doing this), Richard de Leth (of OERsterk eten) and Erwin van Beek (crossfitrainer at Reebok 020 Amsterdam).

What I show above is not higher math. Everyone knows it will have an effect, yet it's tricky when you start doing it on your own. Then it often doesn't work out.

Now after nine months, I look very different and my whole life has changed. Everything has improved. My income, my relationships, my focus, my strength, my fitness and my vigor.

Left is beginning of the year, right is end of the year

Essential Life Skills

But that's not even the most important thing. If you look around you see plenty of people who train hard (or say they train hard), eat fine, sleep well and still don't make the transformation they would like to make.

I see the same in the crossfit box, at the gym, with entrepreneurs and those around me. Most don't make that breakthrough anyway, even though they do all those things well.

Because I do a lot with hypnosis, I can get to the bottom of my mind more easily. I know when it's bullshit or real. For example, during a workout my head says "you're going to pass out" while my body can go on. Most people then stop, because you don't want to faint, right? However, it is bullshit, but yes how do you know it is bullshit?

The question is.

Once you know that, only then can you make a breakthrough. In whatever it is.

It's 12 Lifeskills that take you out of hypnosis, so to speak, and start making the breakthrough. It's not really a breakthrough in the sense of breaking something. Rather, it is making something clear again that is hidden or very vague. It's not that you don't know. You are smart enough.

It's often that you're not doing something you really should be doing, but...

And what comes after that but is a rule, a hypnosis, something hidden. As long as that remains hidden and not addressed, then it stays there and will sabotage. Something you've probably experienced.

Would you like to change that rule, that hypnosis? Then click here and pick up those 12 Lifeskills.

Nicely put, Edwin. I think a lot of people feel the same way—they know what needs to change but just can’t seem to get around to it. I’m definitely one of them, haha. I know what I need but can’t seem to get around to it. I used to work out and kickbox, but after an injury I had to take some time off—and sure enough, you fall back into a rut. Time flies by and you’re always short on it; you make plans but never get around to them, You’re constantly playing catch-up, and you literally and figuratively run yourself ragged. Instead of sorting out what’s really important and what’s less important to get more peace of mind and a better overview, you just keep running even harder to try to make all your plans happen—which, of course, isn’t going to work. I thought it was a beautifully written piece—it really makes you think and get things in order, streamlining your schedule so it stays within your limits. Warm regards, Johan.
