Making heavy life lighter: How to do it.

Do you have a tough life? Does everything feel exhausting and like more effort than it's worth? Incredibly awkward feeling, so how do you make sure to lighten up your life?

This blog article will give you helpful insights and tips for that question.

I have a hard life

If you have a tough life, or at least feel that you do, chances are you have experienced some things in your life.

Perhaps you didn’t have a happy childhood and/or you’re dealing with a lot of uncertainty in life. Or maybe you struggled with illness early in life.

The work you have also falls hard on you, for example[1].

Why is life hard?

All sorts of things can happen in life that make it feel difficult, such as losing your job or your child becoming seriously ill. Research shows that, depending on your self-image and how you perceive these problems, this can make life feel very difficult.

However, this isn’t necessarily the case; there are also people who, despite these kinds of situations, manage to maintain a high level of well-being[2].

How do you make your life lighter?

So a seriously ill child apparently doesn't have to make you feel like life is tough. At first, that may sound pretty crazy.

According to the researchers, the trick for people who could maintain their well-being was to look at the situation without bias and see the pros and cons of the situation.

In more common “negative” life events, such as losing a job or something similar, this can serve as a signal for someone who is otherwise mentally healthy to change their life and embark on a journey of personal development or transformation .

(Quite by chance, we often see people who are going through this process in the Hypnosis Institute of the Netherlands’ training program.)

In these modern times, scientists say it is harder to be successful than before (so that criticism of Boomers is secretly justifiable), which can make you think that " being happy" is out of reach.

Fortunately, despite unemployment, single parenthood and lower purchasing power, you can be just as happy now as you were when you could buy a house in a single-earner household and afford a family with three children. Researchers just don't really understand why, because that means it no longer has to do with "possessions."[3]

As mentioned, your mental health also plays a role in being able to undergo a transformation.

However, it can sometimes be very difficult to change your life (or even just your lifestyle) because of emotional baggage you have carried earlier in your life. To make your life lighter, it may sometimes be necessary to first process your emotional baggage so that you can then make the change in your life that you want.

Sometimes you may still be in the midst of a problem—such as when you’re seriously ill —and in those cases, hypnosis can also help relieve stress and cope with the situation. For example, research shows that hypnosis helps people with cancer cope with the stress of the disease and its treatment[4].

But what if that's all over again? What if it's time to change things to make you happier? Then it's time to deal with the emotional baggage.

Hypnosis for Change

Processing emotional baggage is an area where hypnotherapy can play a role. Just the hypnotic state and a single short session can already help people suffering from chronic stress— which is likely an issue when life feels overwhelming.

Research shows that this can quickly reduce feelings of stress, anxiety and depression[5].

If you’ve experienced acute trauma—from a car accident or a violent incident, for example—hypnosis combined with cognitive behavioral therapy can also be very helpful in processing this trauma[6].

In addition, you can use hypnosis to transform your emotional baggage, which can help with a variety of problems.

Preventing Guilt

That baggage can actually make you feel guilty , even though there’s absolutely no need for it. For example, you want to be there for your family, but you also have to work to pay the bills.

You want so much, but you have so little time, and you buy off the guilt with gifts that may also make you feel guilty.

So how do you actually prevent this? Because walking around with guilt feels leaden.

With hypnosis, you can identify the beliefs that cause you to feel guilty—for example, because you’re prioritizing your career even though you have a family, or because you’re prioritizing your family even though your colleagues are very busy.

You can never get it right as far as you feel.

In cases like this, regression can help you identify the event that makes you feel guilty when you think you’re not behaving the way you “should.”

In fact, regression allows you to go back to a time when an impeding belief was created, to fix it[7].

Fewer responsibilities

Perhaps your life is tough, too, because you have a little too much going on. Saying "yes" to everything and suddenly you are being lived instead of living yourself. Cutting down on those responsibilities can also go a long way when it comes to living a lighter life.

This makes it even more important to set your boundaries, and that can sometimes be difficult. In cases like these, hypnosis can help you see situations in a different light, making it easier for you to point out that a colleague might be better suited for the task, or that your child should look for their favorite soccer cleats on their own.

This can be done with Ericksonian hypnotherapy combined with positive psychology. In fact, this helps you strengthen your ego, gain more self-confidence and, as a result, you can better define your boundaries[8].

Your role under the microscope

In addition, you take on all kinds of roles in life. The biggest role change people notice is when they become a father or mother; mothers in particular (and fathers who are primarily responsible for caring for their children) are often swallowed up by the role of mother and can therefore feel as though they are losing themselves.

Very annoying, but is it really?

With hypnotherapy, you can scrutinize all parts of you, i.e., the mother, the wife, the careerist, the friend, and balance them more with each other so that you can be yourself again.

This can go a long way in easing a tough life as well.

This technique is advanced and is taught in the third training program at the Hypnosis Institute of the Netherlands .

Choosing for yourself

In our training I often meet people who take the training "because they can finally choose for themselves," often that moment is actually 5 years later than they would have liked.

So why is it that you are self-absorbed? What would your life look like if you did choose to take care of yourself?

This vision of the future can already give you a good entry point to change. Because a lot of problems can be solved by finding the cause. We often do this with the regression technique.

But the opposite is also true. If you know where you want to go—what your life would look like if it were light rather than heavy—then you can take steps to achieve that goal .

In fact, with a progression, you can come up with some kind of plan on how to step by step make your life easier and less demanding.

Especially if combined with regression. A hypnotherapist can help you with this.

And if you don't have a good idea yet, a post-hypnotic suggestion often also helps make you more aware of the lightness that life holds, even during tougher moments.
