Going into hypnosis with the Attention Shifter

Going into hypnosis is a wonderful experience for most people even when they experience it. There are several ways to go into hypnosis and this way is one of the most beautiful. It is not fast, not overwhelming like some rapid inductions. Nor very slow like a relaxation technique, but it works by shifting attention.

Going into hypnosis with Attention Shifting

When you go into hypnosis you notice that you begin to relax more and your focus is enhanced. This is a characteristic of hypnosis. Consciousness is very limited when it comes to perception and if you use that gap then you get a miraculous effect.

We experience the world with our 5 senses. Some people claim we have a sixth sense and often call it intuition. However, you could put it all under the 5 senses because an intuition is often a feeling and therefore fits perfectly well with the sense of feeling.

So what actually determines which sense we use? You could say that if we were to talk about a sixth sense, it would be 'attention.' It is the overarching 'sense organ' and ensures that when one sense falls away, our attention automatically moves more to another sense.

When we start using that overarching "sense" we get a very special effect. In fact, people then go into hypnosis very quickly. So it is one of the most favorite inductions of conversational hypnotists. You don't have to touch anybody, even say you're going to hypnotize somebody, you just start...

How it works

What you are doing is that you are going to shift someone's attention, because while you are reading this you are not noticing that your left hand has a certain sensation. Now while you do notice it you are not aware at that moment that that hand also feels slightly different from your right hand, right? And while noticing that you were not aware that you were moving your feet for a moment ... interesting....

So what I am doing is moving your attention to a place that you are not aware of, but can be aware of. Your consciousness cannot perceive everything that is happening around you and within you at the same time, but it can perceive everything that is happening when the attention is focused on it.

So you can use that principle to direct attention that way. The conversational hypnosis training course discusses that in detail, and members of the hypno community have access to it. Below you can see a demonstration of this process in action. You can also see that I just start right away and I can do this anywhere ;-)
