Smoking Cessation and Hypnosis

Quit smoking in an hourHypnosis is the best way to quit smoking. You just need to know exactly how to go about it. There are some principles you need to have right before you start as a therapist. Did you know that most hypnotherapists have a success rate of about 30-50% in smoking cessation? That's not even very bad, but 95% they don't achieve. That's because they are missing something to really get you to quit smoking through hypnosis.

Quit Smoking with Hypnosis

There are a few principles that are important to quit smoking. First, a little explanation. Take a look at the model below.

Smoking cessation model

If you look at this model, at the bottom you will see "environment. Above that is behavior, and that is the level at which smoking occurs. You smoke, so you do. Sounds logical right?

Above that level is "skills," i.e., how to smoke. And above that is the level of beliefs and values. Why do you smoke?

You may already notice that that question (why) is harder to answer than the how or the what. That's because that's on a subconscious level. However, that is the level where you need to make the change happen to really quit smoking.

So the first thing that is important is to know what smoking will give someone. It is important to find out what that is. 99% of the time it's safety... You can find out with hypnosis why quitting smoking is not yet successful.

The Value Behind the Behavior

Safety? Does that deliver the smoking? In most cases yes, and I'm talking about the feeling of familiarity. When you start smoking you want to belong somewhere, often to a group. So you start smoking to belong and that provides a sense of security. You have to take that value into hypnosis to make it easier to stop smoking.

In addition, it is important to know whether someone is an emotional smoker or an identity smoker. Namely, if you are an emotional smoker, then you are smoking to suppress something traumatic/emotional. When that trauma is gone, then you don't need to smoke either. With hypnosis, you can locate that trauma through regression and transform it in such a way that you can easily stop smoking.

If you are an identity smoker, you are a smoker. Do you see what level that is at? It is above the level of values and is therefore a level stronger than the levels below. So the change has to take place at that level if you want to be successful. You want someone to be a non-smoker. That way he stops smoking easily.

Using pain and pleasure to quit smoking

In addition, it is important to use a natural principle to get someone to stop.I also call this the donkey principle.

Pain and pleasure principle to quit smoking

A donkey will walk when beaten with a stick or when a carrot is held in front of it.

It works the same way with people. We get moving when we have a goal or when we want to get away from something. Pain and pleasure, in other words. In hypnosis sessions, many hypnotherapists use this principle and is a key component to the success they have.

When you smoke you only think in 'short-term' terms. In 'long term' thinking you don't. Why should you. As a hypnotherapist you do want to think in the long term so that you arouse the 'pain' a bit more. That way there will naturally come a natural moment when someone really decides to quit smoking and so it will be easy.

Then, of course, fun is just as important. You also want it to pay off when you stop. For that, you use the value and also point out that so now you are healthy and have also become a non-smoker. Those suggestions are very important to make in hypnosis.

We are the only one in the Netherlands to license a program from England in which I discovered a completely new success strategy. It has nothing to do with the principles used by most hypnotherapists. They work fine with 50% of the people.

With this hypnosis-based smoking cessation program, it’s different. There’s a 95% success rate that you’ll quit smoking within an hour. That’s incredibly fast, of course, and it’s also on a “no cure, no pay” basis. Give yourself the chance to break free from smoking and quit. This can only be done with a hypnotherapist who holds this license.

However, if you want to do it yourself, use the natural mechanism in your body. Awaken some more pain so you can more easily make a decision to really quit. You really can do that with any addiction. I myself did it that way and even before I was introduced to hypnosis. You can do it yourself and I hope to inspire you to take more control of your own life.

I haven’t smoked for 13 years; I’ve practiced hypnosis in the mirror myself until the program was sold out, and I had to quit smoking—it just wasn’t working anymore; I had to go to the lounge—that’s how it was with smoking.

Clear article, and it really works that way! I work a lot with NLP strategies—or neuro-strategies—which help bring the unconscious into consciousness. I also call it “bringing to the surface what you don’t see but is apparently there.” The success rate depends, among other things, on a person’s susceptibility to addiction. Some people react more emotionally, others more rationally, but the principle essentially works the same way. I tweeted your article because stress is often a trigger for smoking.
